So you are afraid that somebody will change the symbol of bitcoin? That's never gonna happen! This is not the thread about changing bitcoin. No need for that. Don't be afraid.

We have BTC why we need another symbol?
It's like creating another symbol for only Ray Tomlinson besides the simbol @ for email.

If you think to represent satoshis (as unit of value) we have already mBTC which works great. The $ sign is same, same sign for cents.

So what will be the purpose for it ?

That's true we don't need anything that will confuse people especially those coming in, we are pretty much ok on what we already have right now, no need to add more symbolism, there's a thread I read that they want to change the name of Bitcoin or it's symbol, that will create confusion and possibly lose all the efforts that we've done for the last ten years.

I don't know who made them. But I think it's not good enough.

If there is a Satoshi symbol in it, it must contain the Bitcoin symbol.

Its fun seeing people become obsessed with things that are beyond their control. This is human nature to think and imagine things and thus lead to their own downfall. Do you all think changing a symbol would mean changing anything for the future economy? That lowercase dollar sign with a bitcoin sign beside it has been used to denote satoshi since a long time now even before I ever thought of the same.

It is a pointless discussion anyway. Rather than working together to promote the use of bitcoin people are more interested in drawing new symbols for the smallest unit of bitcoin. Cheesy

BTCitcoin - atoshi <> BTC -
Bitcoin - Satoshi <> B - S
Please, someone quote my post to here. more symbols would come ... Grin

Contribute thoughts. I don't know for sure how the results of my work if minimized like the default font size of the forum. If it doesn't look fit, just change the width value(currently is 10).
If I had to choose only the OP list, I'd choose the number 1 for now. That's the best (in my point of view) even though I've tried to minimize the size like BTC symbol and it looks like bubble talk. Maybe if it's made thicker, then the S accent is more visible.

PS: Tell me if this logo/symbol has been made before by someone else, I will add credit. As far as searching, I haven't found anything like this.

Looking long term I think it is good if Bitcoin community have consensus regarding this topic.

I was looking for some interesting symbols from Japan, like

Here is wiki page regarding Satoshi unit:

Same thoughts!

Why would need for another symbol.? BTC symbol is already enough yet this already symbolizes satoshi and theres no other symbol would fit out.

Liked forth one but since S and ~ lines are associated with USD dolar, I think it won't be fair to include satoshi in this one despite the fact that his name starts with S because he created bitcoin which is far from USD, a coin made for anonimity, for protecting user's privacy and fast/cheap transactions, it's 100% opposite of fiat and banking system. So to my mind it will be better if there will be combination of B and S since he created bitcoin. Just googled BS logos and there are really amazing ones out there.

That's funny!  Smiley I had the same thoughts about BS symbol. lol I think it's better to find something else. It would be cool if the BS word didn't exist.  Cheesy
All words should exist. Without BS you would have no way of calling out BSV for the BS that it is Wink

Do we really need another symbol just for satoshis? If so then why should it even be the letter S? The dollar is $ so a satoshi could as well be little B of some sort. like BTC and BTC

I'm not a fan of associating the most granular form of Bitcoin as "BS". Wink

This symbol is pretty cool: 𝕊

Why we just don't call it sBTC
That will show be enough to know that you are using Satoshis of Bitcoin Smiley

I like the simplicity of it. Sometimes the best things are the ones that are simple. I also like that the btc symbol is somehow included. It's nice to have different opinions and conclusions. The time will tell if there will be a need for a massive usage of the satoshy symbol in the future.

Hmm yes, but Bitcoin should go first not last, as in Bs. ₿s. BTCs. Ironically that's what the Venezuelan bolivar used to use as symbol, quite appropriate given that its descendant (the BsS.) is currently a bit less (but nearly on par) to 1 satoshi.

Apparently this idea has been around for a little while, I like the guy in this article who talks about using a symbol that's already in the Unicode 10.0 spec.

It is good also to have a symbol in smaller unit of bitcoin. In order for the sats to have identification. I think number is good but it seems like it has a bit similarity with dollars symbol. We don't need to debate it right now because even we selected the symbol for it if the developer did not accept it, then it could be only a confusion to the people.

mBTC, μBTC? Alternative for the latter is just uBTC Smiley

The key part of why there's no prefix for satoshi is that the closest one would be nano (10-9) whereas you would need to do 10nBTC, kind of ugly. Maybe a better answer is XnBTC (using roman numeral)?

My point is, we had btc and then used the BTC symbol? Even something for a nano bitcoin symbol would be good. Or a ubtc symbol.

The lightning network seems to use 10^-10 btc also as its base unit...

I was quite young when I started with this but do you not remember putting things in terms of 0.00000001 got extremely confusing.

Maybe a symbol for mbtc or microbtc would be interesting since a few microbtc are worth cents now...

The instant we create another symbol we will begin to constantly change the symbol like Fiat where each president and his political party change when they don't like the symbol that the old political party that was in government created. This current symbol is very good and doesn't need to change, it represents bitcoin very well
