11cea-1h is still the MinAddress to beat.  Your MinAddress must be lower than 11cea-1h where 11cea is a hexidecimal number.

A few more days and the contest will end.

Does anyone out there have an address older than:

11cea-1h

which was created 2010-08-08 03:58:48?

If we don't get an older one in a few days then I will send the reward to the owner of 11cea-1h.

Did you even bother to read the rules of the game?  Do you often just play games without even bothering to read and understand the rules?  If so, I have a great new gambling game for you:  send me 1 BTC and I will explain the rules of the game to you once I get the money.  Is that something you would be likely to do?

This thread has been quite useful for discovering individuals that I should mark as "ignore".  Thanks.

I bought some of the earliest coins.  Here is one I opened in order to make sure it worked before I bought a whole bunch of them so I think it is my oldest physical coin:

I don't think dooglus has to worry about physical Bitcoins.

it is only $60 $55 $50 $45 $40 bucks anyway.

Monday some time I will award the $40 $35 $30 to dooglus.

Dang the way things are going I might have to increase the reward!

LOL.  I was just thinking the same thing.

Tell them to get their act together and get in here before it is too late.

I suppose that Keefe might know a very early adopter that simply isn't available at the moment to sign in to the forum and provide a MinAddress.

However, I was assuming that this is more along the lines of what ndnhc was asking about.  I figured that Keefe recently purchased a Casascius coin and is waiting on delivery, so he can't post the MinAddress until the coin arrives and he cracks it open.

When did Casascius begin manufacturing his coins?  I know it was before I discovered bitcoin, but was it before dooglus's address showed up in a block?

Am i allowed to buy bitcoin address of someone else without getting a negative trust?

I don't see a problem with that.

Anybody that owns a Casascius coin has done exactly that.

Do you trust the seller not to steal the bitcoins that you add to the address?

My guess is they are both victims of a public school education and just don't know that the number 4xxxx is greater than the number 1xxxx.  They might also not be familiar with the concept "less than" Wink

I guess they don't recognise that character strings containing letters can be numbers, and so don't think to compare them numerically.

yeah. i had the same trouble. but figured it out after seeing first few submissions

What the hell? You gave me negative trust for posting that? You took that seriously!  Shocked

That is the first address which appeared in Block 1. And all it need is a little common sense that the only person who will knoe of bitcoin's existance at that time is Satoshi Nakamoto and may be some rich guys.

And do you know what a grin means?

Also the verification failed. then how did i present false credentials? Anyone could know that the address is not even related to that string.
And there was no intention to cheat.

See: https://blockchain.info/tx/0e3e2357e806b6cdb1f70b54c3a3a17b6714ee1f0e68bebb44a74b1efd512098

if u see the address in blockchain, u can see that it was recently active. So my claim of lost wallet is obviously false. I was only joking!

Just adding smilies does not make it a joke. Just because your attempt to cheat was amateurish does not negate the fact that you tried. Maybe your intent was different, but you might should have made that clearer. I certainly did not laugh and yes I tested your signature even though I was almost certain you are not satoshi.

What exactly is min-address? how do i know what is my min address?
Your answer can be found here: http://www.minaddress.info/#faq
As for how to find out what your min-address is, just enter your normal BTC address in the field at the top and the website will do the rest for you. Basically the first part is the first block that your address appeared in and the second part is the first few characters of your normal BTC address.

How low can you go?

The Bitcoin Limbo Game

Here is how it works:

1) Find the oldest Bitcoin address you still control (have the private key for) that you do not mind making public.  For example:

     13fG1Shr3gaDqGSXpgmqjhYUCXwFSShoKd

2) Enter this oldest address into the form at http://www.minaddress.info

3) You will get a MinAddress for your address.  For my example it is:  4d8fd-13f

NOTES:  You must have a valid MinAddress to win.
The address must have a balance equal to or greater than 0.1 BTC to win.
You must prove you control the address to win.
If your address does not work at the web site then please report it here or to the owner.
The MinAddress thread is here:  https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/minaddress-now-remember-your-addresses-easily-774741
This is part of the beta testing of the site so...

4) The first portion of a MinAddress is the block number of the address.

5) If the block address portion of your oldest address is lower than the lowest address posted so far in this thread then post it in this thread.

I will give a 0.1 BTC prize to the oldest/lowest address posted in the next couple of weeks or so.

I reserve the right to post my own oldest address if I wish (a hidden reserve of sorts).

You must follow the posting format shown in this next post (you can put anything you want into the message you sign) in order to prove you own the address and are not just blowing smoke.

EDIT:  Even after all these years I still learn new ways to get scammed.  Amazing.

In order to win:

the Bitcoin address must have a balance equal to or greater than 0.1 BTC
you must prove you control the address by signing a message with the private key
you must have the lowest MinAddress
your post must follow the format used in the following post:

Bitcoin Full Address: 1KZUTAHU8JQJvZG1uynrgNiQT7DWN9zq1Y
             Min-Address: 45a62-1kzu
             Verify Link: http://blockexplorer.com/block/00000000000000004e6e59adff610f84f3c0f2e81b3227f9bdd16846449ebc14

The current oldest Min-Address is 18e98-1c, which is much older than 45a62-1kzu. Besides, you didn't follow the format.

...

I just checked all topics with an ID <34 and none of them contains such information. So it appears that, in fact, this was the first public transfer-by-IP-address transaction, at least on this forum. I haven't checked the old mailing list or forum on sourceforge, so I can't guarantee for it, though.

Indeed. I can't find a public example of a transaction to an IP address prior to this one. I'm told that the Bitcoin sourceforge mailing lists (including the private bitcoin-security list) does not appear to have an example of an IP transaction before this one either.

I'm assuming that the 'Satoshi to Hal' transaction was sent to a Bitcoin address and that all other IP transactions were to private ranges. The posts show that others were aware of how IP sending worked in practice, the question being - did anyone else actually test it ? Base networking protocols are often assumed to be working correctly when the layers above them are functioning.

It will be easy enough to find the transactions on the blockchain i.e. 2 x 0.01 BTC transactions on the same date / time as your post.

Wonder if either of us still has that wallet ?

I'm pretty sure I still have it.
I guess I'm going to check my old wallets for this game (not really for the reward, just for curiosity) and while I'm at it I will look for the aforementioned IP-based transactions.

EDIT #1:
I've been PMing and spreading this topic URL around, a few people here got it from me.  Wink
yep, thanks for that Smiley

EDIT #2:
Hey SmokeTooMuch,

Do you remember when you sent me 2x 0.01 BTC to test IP sending ?

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.236

Was this the first public Bitcoin transaction to an IP address ?

I just checked all topics with an ID <34 and none of them contains such information. So it appears that, in fact, this was the first public transfer-by-IP-address transaction, at least on this forum. I haven't checked the old mailing list or forum on sourceforge, so I can't guarantee for it, though.

Daily bump.

dooglus's 18e98-1c is the MinAddress to beat.

To answer a question I got by PM:  I will probably close out this contest at the end of this month unless there is a lot of activity but I expect activity will die off pretty rapidly as we go farther back into the blockchain.

Any "older timers" want to claim your 0.1 BTC?

I'm unclear about the required 0.1 BTC balance on the address. Does it need to stay on the address, or just be there when you check the address?

I don't really understand why you ask for it to have a non-dust balance at all, since you also require proof of ownership anyway.
Because people (one specifically) cheated by claiming an old address where someone had posted the private key online after using it.  They claimed the address as their own and proved it (they did have the private key).  However they would not be foolish enough to send BTC to an address where it would probably be swept within seconds.  The reason the address must have and maintain 0.1 BTC until I pay them is that someone could go ahead and send a small amount to an old publicly available private key, it gets swept, but they still make a profit on the scam.  So, the rule was changed.  The winning address must have 0.1 (or more) BTC.

I have also now decided on how to end this thing:  X consecutive days with no change in the winning address.  I am open to suggestions on what X should be.

18e98 is the number to beat, yours must be lower than that in order to win.

Getting interesting now, I can no longer win my own game.

Yep, the blocks are far enough back now that I know for a fact that I won't have anything younger in any of my cold storage paper wallets.

Saves me the time of going to look.  Good luck to dooglus!

The "View profile" link next to each of my posts links to https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/dooglus-3420

That 3420 is my userid here. I made my forum account around the same time as my first Bitcoin transaction. If you find someone with a lower userid, maybe they have an older address and could win this thing.

Yes, I have verified that even though they made some sort of cut and paste mistake in their post, RB14060's MinAddress of  1a355-1ci is now the one to beat (signature verified and the address has funds).

Huh, not quite sure how that happened! Must've been a change address or something, cause I don't see it in my client nor does it show up in an address sweep. Oh well!
You must have used the private key of 1a355-1ci = 1CiunxVSGagXxowVVkrbcHrUTXx9tohCAG to sign the message in your post otherwise I would not have been able to verify the signed message with the public key for 1a355-1ci = 1CiunxVSGagXxowVVkrbcHrUTXx9tohCAG.  Therefore you must own the private key for 1a355-1ci.

1a355-1ci is the number to beat.  Anyone?

Hi,
Minaddres.info takes the data from http://blockexplorer.com/ and blockexplorer is giving the below error [ http://blockexplorer.com/address/15eiAnGmwGVKSGjSKowcDw7N6CmhG7jfoo ] for this address because of which it is not working.

Yes, I have verified that even though they made some sort of cut and paste mistake in their post, RB14060's MinAddress of  1a355-1ci is now the one to beat (signature verified and the address has funds).

RB14060:  everything is correct in your post except the MinAddress of 1a1d9-1dz should be 1a355-1ci.   The Bitcoin address for the MinAddress 1a1d9-1dz is 1Dz9QVrUopFGcwPokuhXYYGu5XCkPtg4Er and that address is younger than the address 1CiunxVSGagXxowVVkrbcHrUTXx9tohCAG but only by two days.  Perhaps you own both?  At any rate you are now in the lead and you did send the BTC to an address you do control (whew!).

OP
can you tell when is the dateline ?
If you go to here and look at the first transaction for this address (which happens to be from 1a1d9-1dz to 1a355-1ci)  you will find they received 0.25 BTC on 2011-02-10 23:43:23 in block number 107349.  It is interesting to note that the difficulty for that block was only 25,997.88 (difficulty today is 27,428,630,902.26)

Is the current MinAddress to beat.  Private key and BTC amount verified.

Min-Address: 47e7d-19jd
Good try but your block number (47e7d) is greater than iamnotcool`s (30f5c) and michietn94's (470f4).

1TBZjmXho6mdGhoESaMV2svtqJXYtWfEp was my first address after Instawallet, IIRC. I still have the private key and MinAddress says it's 2f4f3-1t but I don't know if I need to waste time and treasure signing a message and refunding it to over the dust limit (whatever that is).
That is up to you.  The number to beat right now is 30f5c so 2f4f3 would put you in the lead.

Ok so I clicked submit and got 42a1d-12hy

Now what?
Good try but your MinAddress block number (42a1d) would need to be under 30f5c to be in the running.  If you can find an earlier address you can try that.

This is fun, and great practice. I'm too young to stand a chance. If anything could lure satoshi back in, though...

Yes.  I am sure Satoshi is all over my 0.1 BTC reward.   Cheesy

Give it a try! 470f4 is the current number to beat and that is not that long ago.  Dig up your oldest key pair and give it a whirl!

How do you beat that number/letter combination. I dont get it.

Take your oldest bitcoin address that you still have the private key for (in other words, not one from a wallet that you've lost or deleted).

Enter the bitcoin address in the MinAddress website that is linked in the OP.

See if the MinAddress results in a number/letter combination before the dash that is less than 470f4.

Letters are "greater than" numbers, so 47036 would be "less than" 470f4 (36 is "less than f4" in the same way that 36 is "less than" 94)

The order of values of "digits" from largest to smallest would be f, e, d, c, b, a, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0

Are we limited to submitting a single address?

In otherwords, can I submit my lowest address available to me in my hot wallet right now, and then if/when someone beats it can I go get a paper wallet from cold storage and submit that address?

Or once I submit an address am I locked into using that address for the duration of the game?

You can submit as many as you want to as long as it has a lower MinAddress than the previous post, you have the private key, and the address has a balance equal to or greater than 0.1 BTC.
