ohh no rush here, 2 years is literally nothing, for such low-cost project as new forum, you know:)
Probably better this way.
Guessing 95 to 97% of the posts nowadays are made with the sole purpose of farming accounts/spamming sig ads.

good point, forum just became advertising platform for gambling / "cloud" mining and porn cameras.

sadly, nobody is taking care about this and there is not even section, where signatures are disabled (so, where may be discussed more serious topics than "is gambling addictive"). I really hope, that this will change somehow on new board and we will have some serious bitcoins threads again.

So what? having a preview necessarily means it will be delivered now?
I did not say that. What I mean was that a open beta will be delivered.

Plz dont go there with the "i hope" arguments. You/we are better than this.
Well, I've used that wording because I don't have exact information. The only one who could tell you this is theymos.

This new forum is way overdue.
Indeed it is, however you can't speed it up much (or at all) with additional manpower now.

i think this new forum is never going to see the light of day.
I think that as well.
If I where to program this forum it probably would have been done already.
These statements do not make much sense since you can already look at the beta and/or join it. Once theymos gives the green light it will be open beta (i.e. bug hunting season). This should happen in the close future (I hope).

This new forum is way overdue, hunting bug season for a damn forum site taking more than 2 years is just a farce.

Lastly I'll leave with this: software follows the 80/20 rule, 80% of the work/time/effort is usually concentrated in that last 20%, or the last mile.
People who have never been involved in large projects do not know this. Additionally, there's Brooks law:
Quote
Brooks' law is a claim about software project management according to which "adding manpower to a late software project makes it later"

You can always view our latest code at https://github.com/epochtalk/epochtalk.

We work on this daily and you can track our progress. And if you really want, you can run this yourself on your own computer. All you need is node, postgres, and redis.

Also, to those that say that they can write a forum in a few months. We could probably do a basic forum in a few days. The part that takes the longest is all the feature requests on top of a basic forum that the moderators need to deal with the massive amount of reports, trolls, scammers, etc.

We are building custom tools on top of a not too basic forum and these tools are being built with the help and input of the moderators and admins here. We're also building in many features that you wouldn't find in many open source forums at the request of people in this board. Although some of our features are found in some of the more recent forums (Discourse, nodeBB, etc).

So while yes, someone capable could build a forum in a few months. We're not here to bang out a job and call it a day. We're here to build something that will last and can deal with the problems the moderators face on a daily basis.

Lastly I'll leave with this: software follows the 80/20 rule, 80% of the work/time/effort is usually concentrated in that last 20%, or the last mile.

You say & think 2 YEARS are a short time?
I can code your a complete forum with the same features within 2 months from scratch and im not a pro!
Interesting statement there. What are you waiting for then?
< snip >

My guess is "suckers to donate $2.2 million US, the sum theymos claims to have spent on the new forum thus far" Smiley

I'm certain that such a forum would get obliterated by hacks in no time. Cheesy

Or, you know, he could just use one of the many free, open source forums, but that's crazy talk.
Theymos wisely provided us with a truly unx4xx4ble 2.2 million dollar forum: one that don't exist Cool

Funny one Wink

Good thing the current devs aren't as arrogant and full of themselves, as you. This is a private forum, who are you to judge?

I can code your a complete forum with the same features within 2 months from scratch and im not a pro! I had written a complete CMS for my clan within 2 Months with a small forum, news, messenger, connection to our 3 gameservers, stats and much more. Just around 120 hours.
Good thing the current devs aren't as arrogant and full of themselves, as you. Let them take their sweet time figuring out bugs and making improvements. This is a private forum, who are you to judge?

I'm not sure why members are impatient.

I am just wondering, like 2 years ago people said the new forum was almost done, yet I see no changes at all to the forum software being used.
There are just too many features that the admin wants so it is taking more and more time. I'm not sure why members are impatient. It will be a especially huge update for moderators, yet we are calm (or at least I am).

Is there a thread somewhere where I can see the progress being made?
You can see it on the Beta forum. Keep in mind that it is down for the weekend.

The new forum is out, just that changes are still being made on it. Bugs being fixed which is why it has not been released publicly yet,
I think the link was beta.bitcointalk.org or something, someone posted it in the other new forum thread.
