Killed?? I don't know about that, but overtaken in market dominance? Most definitely, and I think it will happen in 2018 by ETH.

Bitcoin looks now like the big brother and all that, but there is need for better chains in terms of efficiency and specs. Many of these are upcoming and may be the cromagnon to the bitcoin neardenthal.

Bitshares still hold to be the best candidate for the blockchain system with solved on its scalability problem. But there are some categories right now. DAG (iota, byteball), Ripple. But the fact that the only blockchain can be implemented the dapps support. I doubt about another system. Ethereum is the best right now.
