Isn't it too obvious though? I mean think about it, you get a link on telegram, you open it, you connect your wallet to it... Isn't that too obvious that he would be getting hacked? I could have spotted that from a million miles away, and your friend couldn't do the same?

I can't really say that I am feeling too sorry for your friend because he got too greedy while not being able to spot the scammers, you can't be a greedy person without really knowing all you need to know about crypto, and if you are fool enough to fall for something like this, then your greed needs to calm down a bit by getting hacked or scammed like this once in a while so you get wiser in the future.

It wasn't only greed that was the reason why your friend's wallet got hacked.
What's the other one? Curiosity

Your friend got curious on what is inside that link, and the next that happened is that your friend got greedy thus, his wallet got hacked. Overall, I'm expecting that your friend is a newbie because those who are in to crypto for a long time already know that Telegram Private Messages especially from strangers are 99% scams. As a newbie, your friend surely learns from his mistake.

Experience really is very expensive right? Cheesy You need to lose a huge amount of money before learning.

I don't think it was just about being greedy, the problem here is your friend lack the necessary security knowledge to properly protect him from being scammed. One can't be too care but it is also very necessary to firstly have the right knowledge and understanding about any new part we want to explore.
Scammers are very crafty and will do anything necessary to try and deceive even none newbie in the crypto space. It is important to be observant and be well informed.

Getting a random message from telegram is already suspicious, unless you didn't know scams about it. It's important to be cautious since there's a lot of way scammers will steal your money by phising links, so asking someone first about it is really important. If your friend really wanted to double his Bitcoin, I suggest look for legit ways of doing that instead of having an idea to double it overnight which is too good to be true.

I'm sure his friend also wouldn't think that the impact is huge on the assets he has in his wallet. sometimes for those who are inexperienced, getting sent a link, it's like a curiosity, of course only beginners will think as long as not sending assets it will be fine. they don't know the risks of connecting a wallet with a phishing web.
even though it was a bad experience, but it can be an important lesson for all of us. especially for OP's friends, he will be wiser in making future choices.

As newbies, almost all of us make mistakes, it is through mistakes that we grow. The people who are criticizing your friend for being greedy are the same people who have been greedy, and I believe they have been in the past as well. As long as he can learn his lesson and not give up, all mistakes are fixable.

There are many methods that scammers use to reap people their hard earned money and I am even more surprised that some of those old strategies still do work. How can a random person send you a link on the telegram and you follow the link. It did not end there, you went ahead to connect your wallet to the link provided.
Not even an empty wallet, but wallet with balances in it. I can say that your friend has gotten the experience. I recently understood that many of us learn by our personal experience, instead of learning from the mistakes of others.

Op, your friend was hacked.  He was phished.

Nothing that happened has to do with aphrodisiac, religious or sinful thoughts, it is the online experience-security, people do not stop falling for perhaps the most classic of fishing scams, the link + accompanied by social engineering.

There is so much information on the Internet, so many "be careful" notices, even traditional banks in any country have prevention campaigns, do not click on any link they send you, by email, chat, MSM, among other types of situations that are presented.

Quote
What did common sense mean?
Common sense (or simply sense) is sound, practical judgment concerning everyday matters, or a basic ability to perceive, understand, and judge in a manner that is shared by (i.e., "common to") nearly all people.
Source:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_sense

Really!, they are newbies, inexperienced or any social connotation that is given to this basic error, at this point in the information age and dissemination of this type of information, it falls to the obsessive-compulsive level, for clicking.

Although I think such discussion should not be in the form. However, I shared the story of one of my friends being cheated.

A friend of mine invested some of his savings in Bitcoin. But unfortunately today his personal wallet got hacked. Balance 00. I was telling my friend how that . My friend said he gets a message on Telegram and gets greedy and enters the link they provide and connects his wallet. After a while he came and saw that his balance was zero.

"Sin of Covetousness and Death in Sin" Like my friend, none of you connect wallets by entering any bad links. No one will be deceived like my friend.
Most often the mistake of beginners is that they do not want to learn the security rules. This is the first thing to start with and it is mandatory. On the other hand, this will serve as a lesson for him and in the future he will not follow dubious links received in instant messengers. There is a lot of material on the topic of security both here on the forum and on the net.

It happens, most of the time loss happens out of gambling. Newbies used to experience these kind of losses going through spam links that shouldn't be used. In the past it was multiplier schemes and I too became a victim of it. It request to install a software, at the bottom users withdrawal of multiplied amount transaction runs. Looking upon this believed and send small amount and I wasn't able to multiply. Later understood my mistake, so it is must to be very careful being on the crypto market.
Yes and I don't think it is really wise of us to attribute such an incident to greed because from ops' own point of view, his friend git hacked because he was greedy to have wanted to participate in the airdrop, but the fact is that most of us here have had a similar experience as a newbie and even high-rank member have also become a victim as some point before making wallet security their top priority.

-Don't connect your wallet to any platform for whatever reason, and never let out your sensitive information, most hackers work with information their collect over time by monitoring the activities of the owner before they will finally strike when the wallet owner least expected it.
As everything happens online we won't be able to do anything once we've lost our funds. So, it is good to keep things in a much secure way. Whenever you get to follow a link please check the source from which you've received it. If it is from a trusted service or from a known person. Later choose to open it or not, nowadays it is the much preferred way for the hackers.

When you get hack d and scammed online it is really difficult to retrieve back the money because you cant easily track them unless you report it to the police and they will try to investigate on it but again this will take time mostly if you are in third world country that is why we need to be careful online be cautious and learn how to keep safe our wallet and our selves online so that we can prevent this. Though requires effort if you want to be safe then you need to follow those important tips for getting safe from hacking

Actually there is no relationship between greed and hacking done by people against your friend, if he does not give access to other parties by linking his wallet, this is a ridiculous story of mistakes made due to lack of knowledge about investing.

That's why I never agree for an unknowledgeable person taking part in a large amount of bitcoin investment how could he do such a thing and I don't think he understands any scam with security behavior to be aware of. But to be honest your story is a bit confusing to understand.

Beginners with little knowledge will not know about this type of fraud because many frauds have been modified by fraudsters so that they can work again and that is the type of fraud that we have often encountered in the past. We must always try to update ourselves by reading the latest information on many sites and comparing it to find more details about what is happening.

If we can use Telegram properly, we will be able to feel that the person we are talking to is making a very attractive offer that looks good to be true even though it is a scam. We can see if the person is on our contact list so we will know who it is.
It's really not that different, just changing the branding of a scam doesn't change the scam type at all. There are 3 types of scams in the crypto world that everyone needs to know, and two of them are world famous in the fiat world as well. One of them is ponzi, named after Charles ponzi who did it for the first time, and the way it works is that they ask you a lot of money at first, and offer you a ton of return per month, saying stuff like "we offer %20 USDT per month" type of thing is an obvious red signal.

Second is pyramid, it is more like "you pay me 100 bucks, and for every person you bring in I will give you 70 bucks, so second person forward you will make a good profit". And third which is in crypto alone is rug pull, simply take as much investment as possible, then leave with all the money you collected.
Ponzi and pyramid have been deceiving people for a long time but the problem is that these methods come back repeatedly when the trend starts to increase. The people making the offer knew that many people would be interested and were curious how they could make so much money so they modified the method to make it look less like a scam.

But the buzzword of the scam is that if their offer looks too good to be true in a short time, we should be suspicious and have to find more info to find out. If we want to invest, we must also determine how much money we will use so that it does not exceed our financial limit because many people forget themselves and are very enthusiastic about getting big results in a short time. And many people have become victims of this, so we must be able to prevent it from happening to us.

There is one type of scam that used to be a bit more disguised and that is the token drop to countless addresses combined with fake liquidity provision and fake trading volume. I guess there has been a high number of people falling for that scam when they imported that token for example to their Metamask and either tried to trade it or allowed the contract to drain funds from their own address due to actually authorizing that contract via Metamask.

That was a bit of a surprise to me as well when it happened for the very first time. Now etherscan.io has all kinds of warnings, but still that is something people fall for. Back then there were also legit airdrops, which made it a bit trickier.

The standard described here as someone texting you a link via Telegram, nobody should ever fall for that and connect their wallet or dump their private key into an unknown website login interface. Sorry, but that is actually stupid. It is like finding a wooden fake ATM at the street where there has never been one before and it says "free money" and you walk in and put your debit card in and provide your PIN. Who would do that? Cheesy

Unfortunately, everything is lost here, so sorry for your friend. At least though he should learn from this mistakes and no make them anymore. There are a lot of criminals in crypto, hackers or scammers that will make you click some link or ask you to download something and the next thing you know, your crypto has is gone. So the next time, don't click or any or trust someone just because they tell you that you will get a big amount of crypto. Your friend is obviously inexperience in this but as I have said, this is a expensive lessons to learn.

I hope those who read this thread learn from the story of @OP, never be greedy and connect your wallet to any link sent via pm of an unknown person on any social media platform.
Both new and old members should take this thread serious,  as we have heard different stories of similar in the past and just a few weeks back, a popular campaigns manager also got his wallet hacked and all campaign funds up to 4k weres stolen from the wallet.

-So there is a need for to protect our wallet with secondary security layers where available and necessary, to avoid easy access to transfer funds.

As you all know that greediness is a curse and if anyone is greedy in the crypto market he will surely going to lose his money. I know many people who are very much technically strong in fundamental analysis and technical analysis but they lack their control over emotions and they become greedy during trades and investments and in the end lose their money.

Scammers use people's desire to get rich quick and easy to entrap them in their fraudulent schemes. One of the most prominent examples is those private keys that are published publicly or sent to people in private messages, and that whoever finds them thinks that he will be able to obtain the tokens in that address. Greed alone is what drives these people and prevents them from seeing the history of transactions at the same address because they will suffice with the referral method before they send Ethereum to pay the transfer fees.

The concept of "aspiration for the better" is fundamentally different from the concept of greed. Ambition towards improving our situation for the better is a legitimate ambition and always requires the actions of the mind before entering into any deal or adventure with the possibility of assessing the consequences.
Greed is completely different, as it is based on the same concept of “aspiration for the best,” but without thinking about it rationally, and the goal is to achieve goals by all possible means, whether they are legitimate or not.

A friend of mine invested some of his savings in Bitcoin. But unfortunately today his personal wallet got hacked. Balance 00.
Your friend's wallet wasn't hacked, they gave up access to a 2nd party by linking their wallet or giving out their private keys.
A hack would be a breach or a compromise on the system, this is a silly mistake.

This is the reason why I caution that newbies should not invest until they have gotten enough fundamental information about the assets and how to secure themselves, without this, they would get quickly lose their funds.
Your friend has failed to secure his account and so he easily give the third party an access of his account due to his greed and love of money. That's the possible result when one does something without making a thorough research first. Not only apply to crypto but definitely in all aspects of our life. If we can't be responsible securing our own account, then we can't expect to succeed from our investment and grow our bitcoin potfolio.
This is where we do really have those words in mind that lessoned learned but it would be a costly one if you do make out such mistakes. This is really that very common scenario or outcomes into those

people who are really that greedy and careless at the same time. You cant really just think off about the risks and danger just because you are already that minding on how to make
money or making profits and this is where most people do fall and commit out mistake.

Hacking and frauds and everything that it is in correlation is really that very common into this market.

I think rather than greed this is a lesson in the consequences of ignorance. DeFi is really not all that hard to master. Before you start, you should do your own research on what is safe and what is not safe. Anyone can easily google this information. It would seem your friend thought he was above worrying about risks. And this is what happens.

Whenever one has the risk to lose money or worse, life/health, then one must always have done their own due dilligence.

Anything else is pure laziness and expecting a good outcome at that point is unrealistic. An expensive lesson was learnt. Undecided

Which wallet was he using? Simply curious. I'm not really sure if a Bitcoin wallet can be connected to services like Web3 wallet. Yet it's nothing new in this field, and it's not the scammers' fault. Well, it's a fraud, not a hack, lol. Most likely, your friend received a greedy offer and became uncontrollably greedy. But he learns a hard lesson from it. A crypto user should just keep their funds his wallet and sit back. He should thoroughly research scams and cryptocurrencies. There will be more incidents of this nature.

I have received multiple messages from telegram of such airdrop but the need to have a wallet connect give me a turn-off and I suspect them, we have hard few cases where users' balance get wiped off all because they connect the wallet and are granted hackers access to the accounts.

-ops yoy should please educate your friend to stay away from such practices if not hackers may moniter the account closely and could in the future clear off bigger amount than this, greed is good in some aspects but being gullible is what is total wrong.

I also received lots of messages like invitations, offers and freebies.  The only requirement is to connect my wallet to their site and sign to agree with the connection.  I always ignore this kind of message because we all know that lots of phishers and hackers are out there trying to trigger our greed and trick us to let them have access to vital information of our wallet or inject script so that they can hijack all the incoming and outgoing transfers of our tokens and coins.

I hope those who read this thread learn from the story of @OP, never be greedy, and connect your wallet to any link sent via pm of an unknown person on any social media platform.

However, where the nag is when people get offers of financial gratifications from total strangers and they fall for it. The internet isn't a safe place and that's why we ought to always be cautious. Scam activities are more pronounced on Telegram than on any other social media sites. A few days ago, I came across one that tried talking smooth and had a girlie picture and name on their profile. I wasn't moved by all that but I played along until I got to the point where I asked them how much they wanted to scam me of. It was at that point that the conversation paused. Opening links sent to you for business purposes from total strangers should be seen as one opening oneself to scam.

Greed itself is a sin. And any reward of a siner is never a good one. Nothing good comes from being greedy. Most times we get greedy unknowingly just as your friend did. He enters the link not knowing the consequences, not knowing it was a trap. As a bitcoin investor, you have to be very careful and smart not to click on any lint that you are not sure of. I have heard stories on how people are been scammed because of their greed. Someone shared his story on how he was asked to invest some money on a particular app and within three day he will will get times three of his investment.  He invested and he was scammed. This is greed because how can you invest and you wont do any tax and you will get double of your investment.
My advice is as a bitcoin investor, you need to be very careful not to fall into trap. As technology is improving, hackere are also improving.

No one will be deceived like my friend.
from this experience we learn about bitcoin knowledge from all things, if you lack knowledge then bad things like this are prone to happen. most of the fraudsters promise lucrative profits, so that many ordinary people are deceived. if it's like this, of course we can only let it go so that the same incident doesn't happen again, and be more careful in protecting our assets, because it's difficult to manage it so that our assets return, especially the lack of legal basis in cryptocurrency

You friend was not greedy, he got Phished like many other people that are getting Phished every day. I get phishing emails daily from fake NetFlix sites trying to get my credit card information and my account information ...or links to a fake Online Banking site... but I always remember Rule #1 ===> Never click on links in your email!

Yes, I feel sorry that your friend lost his Bitcoin, but people should be more street wise when it comes to anything money related. There are people out there that spend most of their lives, trying to steal money from you.... you have to do everything in your power to stop them.  Wink

If not greed, then what is this? We all have greed, if it weren't for greed, we wouldn't risk investing in bitcoin. But greed combined with ignorance will cause extremely unfortunate consequences. If he weren't greedy he wouldn't have clicked the link. Losing money is something everyone regrets, but consider it a lesson of life, we still have a lot of opportunities to earn back the lost money, so there is no need to regret it, but get up from where you fell.

Imho, his friend got tricked and it’s not greediness if he is not aware on danger of crypto because his purpose is just to invest and earn money. Greediness is if you want more despite you already have enough profit. On this scenario, The friend just want an honest investment but scammer trick him to whatever investment offer he promise.

Lack of knowledge and being ignorant on potential scam is what happened here because the victim is a newbie. I will understand if he still get scammed despite being aware of scammer trick.

I believe we are all grown up and aware that making money is extremely difficult, making money outside takes a lot of effort. So there is no reason to think that making money online will be easier. As a grown man, think like this, if money were earned so easily, there would be no poor people in this world. People don't need to go to work as workers, sweep the trash or pick up trash to make a living. I also believe that OP's friend understands that, if he wasn't greedy, he wouldn't have clicked on the link and should know that making money isn't easy.

this kind of thing we always have to be aware of, because there are many ways that fraudulent oknoms do in their actions, and they always offer such a big bonus when looking for victims, so for those of us who are easily tempted by this it is very easy to get into their trap, and as you said greed is the biggest thing to be easily influenced, So we have to be careful in keeping the assets we currently own because the crypto world is very prone to fraud problems.

It's very important to build knowledge of wallet securities before buying or owning your first satoshi, this is important because if you don't know how to be independent and proactive in your wallet security,  you can lose everything.

-it's most important to note every term and the permission you are granting because most of the wallets connect layer 2 network and the rest of them have access to your wallet and can carry out transactions.

I see it quite a bit differently than most of the people here. It is basic user principle for Internet users to not click links from people or websites you don't know or are not sure about. Whether it is an email that is suspicious or some stranger asking us for sensitive information, this has nothing to do with crypto in specific. If I tap my toes into a domain I am not familiar with, I will still stick to some basic rules that universally apply no matter where I am and what I do. The same way you should not drive a car when you are drunk you should also not click on stuff on the Internet arbitrarily.

A really simple example: if someone comes to you at an ATM asking for your debit card because they want to put it into the ATM and deposit some money into your account, would you give them your card? I mean why the hell would someone I don't know pay me any money for no reason?

We don't click on spam emails or emails from senders we don't know, we don't give our debit card to anyone for no reason, we don't click on links on websites we don't know, and we don't open links on telegram from people we don't know and we don't expect any links from.

I admit that there can be ver sophisticated scams, but this one is the most basic one out there that can be avoided by literally anyone who has ever learnt to not click everything you see on the Internet.

Every one is prone to mistakes, at least we all learn from our mistakes but some people don't. People these days have turned telegram as a means for their scam activities so we should all be careful. Your friend wasn't actually greedy, he just fell victim. On his own side he messed up because he didn't ask questions before doing anything. He shouldn't have signed up or connected his wallet to any link on less he confirmed it to be true or legit.

...Many people have experienced this scam but the trick is still working and getting more and more new victims. It's time for us to realize this and continue to be careful of any offers that come to us.

People who fall into this trap are mostly newbies who don't have much knowledge and like to get rich quickly. This type of scam is not new, but we need more articles to warn the community because every day, there are always newbies entering the market, and they are easy to fall into the trap if not warned in advance.

Telegram is really a favourite place for scammers, we better limit communication with strangers on it, don't trust anyone in this market. Those who actively talk to us, they just want our money.

When someone says they will make you rich then just sense its scam because no one in this world is working for others to become rich so beware when you sense that kind of words coming to you. Clicking a malicious link can infect the device so the hacker can access your device from somewhere and do whatever he wants to do with your device that is why we need to keep updating our knowledge about internet scams is important.

It seems that your friend connected the wallet to the phishing site without realizing it, so his wallet has been hacked. Current fraudsters/hackers ask to connect the wallet by showing various offers through email, telegram, if someone connects the wallet according to their instructions, the hackers will definitely get access to the wallet. Lately I have also received messages from several phishing sites but I do not replay those messages or do any formula maintenance as per their instructions. All of you stay free from these hackers and keep your wallet safe.
Whether phising site, greed, or what, it is imprtant to be knowledgeable of what you are doing especially if it involves your money or an amount you just cannot let to slide in an instant. Greed? everyone wants to earn huge money like who does not want to? It is a normal response to a stimuli; better life. But problem arise due to negligence of one's action. There's no such thing as an easy way to earn profit, it should be embedded to us that in order to earn it, efforts should be exerted first and that does not include clicking suspiscous links. There are airdrops and faucets one could earn money from but not all are obviously paying so what more with money multipliers in general right?

Greed will make us experience many bad events and that has been experienced by your friend. Telegram has now turned into a place for scammers who are looking to target new people so they can carry out their tricks to get the assets of their victims. That's why we always have to be careful, especially if we get a link about an attractive offer that finally asks us to connect our wallet to the scammer. The fruit if greed is never good because it can result in dishonesty, strained relationships, a negative impact on society, and unfulfillment.

As a beginner, you should always try to learn the fundamentals. There will be numerous threads on the forum about which wallet to use and how to store your funds more securely, but rather than reading them, he got greedy and clicked on those links. Nothing can be done now; this will only serve as an example of how to be more cautious with your wallets and coins in the future.

The telegram scams are common and your friend gave them access to wallet by clicking on these phishing links which is red sign for all. When you click on these links in hope of earning some good amounts or see some great offers you are actually giving them away what you also have.So your friend has learnt a lesson through it that never click on these links.

That is not greed; it is just that he is a newbie and not knowledgeable on those things and is not aware that those are scams that got his wallet hacked. I don't know what message he got, but I think it was made to transfer the assets from his wallet. I don't know why he chose the wallet that has assets on it and allowed the transaction on it. It would be better in those situations that he has another wallet that has only a few cryptocurrencies, just to be safe. I hope that he learns something from it and doesn't ever click on those unwanted links just to be safe.

It's because he is too greedy, usually, those scam messages always give messages like get free BTC or double your BTC...If he is a man who doubts everything and does not believe that nothing in this world is free, he will choose to ignore it. But because of greed and ignorance, he fell into the trap of those scammers. We don't know how much loss he had to take, but it certainly taught him a valuable lesson, I believe he will never make the same mistake a second time. It's an investment, then everyone will have a few lessons to remember, this is not serious, we need those lessons to become more mature.

Although the credibility of the story is in check, the message is clear still that greed is dangerous and can make you loose all your investment if you are not cautious. It is an attribute not to be accommodated unless it can be met with strong thinking to ensure that the drive that greed brings does not make you make a wrong decision. The greed that most people have is what makes them more prone to becoming victims to scammers who know how to always entice and lure these people.
Yes, the story seems somewhat strange, because Bitcoin wallets do not provide support for WEB3, but the only possibility that I see reasonable is that his friend used TrustWallet, this is a WEB3 wallet, which is a diversified wallet that can contain many coins in addition to bitcoin and can be linked through most sites .

If the wallet is linked to the suspicious site and they get a SEED then they can steal all the coins in the wallet including Bitcoin.
What about trust wallet? It's also a kind of web 3 wallet and it supports Bitcoin. Maybe this was the wallet that his friend use and his friend carelessly visit random links and connects the wallet when it was prompted. Other hacking scenarios would be if his friend enter his keys on a shady website.

So far only noobs will fall to these attempts as it was obvious already that it was a scam/hack if you have some experience in the field of cryptos. At first I wonder why the OP said his friend is greedy but I realize that maybe his friend click on a fake free crypto offers. Nothing is wrong with that, as we all love free stuffs but the main problem is that his friend only lacks of knowledge.

Too much greed will certainly fall into a scheme like this. It was different from just being greedy for a certain opportunity but before they make a decision they also run into dip research. But in the case of your friend, he forgets to even do research as he jumps into it without a doubt believing this could make him rich instantly. Such a promising words could enticely make you think it was true and been our of your mind thinking if this is a scam. That is a winning trick that most scammers/hackers does and no way he could get it back.

If the wallet is linked to the suspicious site and they get a SEED then they can steal all the coins in the wallet including Bitcoin.

Honestly, I am pretty skeptical that something like that is even possible. Legitimate wallets would not just hand over your seed to some random third-party site using WalletConnect protocol - I mean, that is just common sense. And to the best of my knowledge, there has never been a single case where that has happened.

First of all my condolences for your friend. In fact your friend may be new he did not understand the type of fraud scammer. Why people use that invested wallet in different places after investing. Actually those who are new should first gain experience here and then invest. Your friend may have entered here but invested without taking anything well. That's why it's not right for newbies to invest so early. First clear these issues and then invest.
We can’t stop new users to enter bitcoin or crypto since there are many posts now or stories how some peoples able to get fast profit before on it and inspires to be like them without knowing how the price moves now and despite this many scammers still waiting for a time they will get to scam new users in any means. That’s why we should keep on reminding our friends or people we know that they should know how to deal with bitcoin how they should keep their wallets safe as well how the market moves. Though smart investors and those who know what they are dealing with knows when things are too good to be true it’s probably a scam.

This is why education is important about how to secure a wallet first before making an investment. When it has been hacked like this incident, there will be nothing else to do but have to let it go. Being greedy will only create new problems, not carefully looking at messages especially from strangers who give bullshit hopes. There are many instances of wallet hacking like this and the methods used are also different.

One should be very careful with phishing links nowadays, and I'm sorry your friend lost money due to some telegram scammers. Like others, I don't quite understand how that happened, but in any case, it seems hypothetically possible to me. Greed is something to fight, I agree, as it doesn't make people better. But it's also important to remember that your friend is a victim, and victim blaming is a wrong social practice. Yes, he should be more careful, but no, it's not his fault that he lost the money. It's the fault of the scammers.

Whenever I see anybody trying to invest in bitcoin, I always encourage the person to go and learn about wallet security, if you can't learn how to protect your wallet, then you don't have to invest because you might endup losing everything to scammers. Maybe your friend was trying to claim a airdrop that was why he connected his wallet, if you are planning to claim any airdrops or things like that, make sure you create a new wallet address, avoid using your main wallet. Also don't trust anybody you meet on social media, always avoid connecting your wallet to websites anyhow, their is no free money in crypto.

The lack of common sense is what's not good. They probably got a "double your amount" message in Telegram, but I rather see it as a lack of common sense than blindness from greed. When someone in the street comes and tells you that you'd get $10 if you gave $5, you did, and they simply disappeared, would you be greedy or dumb?

First mistake was that he become greedy and for getting more money he click on the website and another big mistake was that he share his private information with others which he even did not know that who are he?

I will suggest that never believe blindly on any person and do not share your personal information and data with others. I also suggest that people who wants to become wealthier quickly are wrong because due to this greed they destroy their all income instead of getting some amount back.

Clicking on link without knowing about it is really bad thing and I think you should never click on any type of link without having Knowledge, so before doing any wrong thing first realize that is a person is scammer or not.

Always work accurately and if you have little amount of cash then accept it and do not try to get more than this because with such thoughts you will loss your own money too.

In this case, it's the reason while we encourage everyone to be careful of exposing it's wallet secret code, assuming the wallet was hacked the seed phrase would have been changed and it won't have access to the wallet, your friend just filled all the necessary information that's attack to the wallet including the password, that's the reason why he could be able to see any figure or amount of Bitcoin that remains in the account. Let us try to be careful and mindful on the way we expose our wallets password to the public, especially in the internet

That is how greed being a sin has been explained by religion since a long time. Indeed, controlling your greed and being honest about your earning prevents even a less-experienced tech-poor person from the scam.

While it is certainly advocated to learn how these scams work in order to be vigilant and learn to avoid them, at the same time being able to control the sins of humans does have a good outcome too, even though you might not be a religious person. I think they are useful for anybody out there and not controlling them has long term effects that you will discover gradually.

These scams target the greedy people, simply speaking. Although it is wrong to assume that a trader hoping for bigger returns is greedy, there is a fine line between greed and and ambitious target.

Why are humans so quick to pass judgement and draw conclusions on certain behaviours exhibited by others? It could have happened to anymore. It may not be greed that was the motive behind your friend's action to follow the Telegram message prompt it may have just been curiosity. Wanting to know what would happen if he clicks on the link. Well now, he has had to learn from personal experience through the loss of his assets that has been incurred.

So for newbies reading this, I will reiterate the following security tips to abide by whenever you are online. It will help keep your bitcoin safe.
- Use Cold Wallets
- Secure Your Devices- have the latest update of your system, install strong anti-virus and firewall protections
- Keep your seed phrase in a safe place
- Ensure you have a strong password. Change it if you ever feel that it has been compromised
- Be aware of phishing attacks - It may be like the one the OP narrated in his story
- Be sure to double- and triple-check the recipient's wallet address.

It's strange that people still believe in scams like that in 2023

Not everyone one only the greedy and lazy ones those who are trying to look for ways to make money without having to work for it. And those who are looking for free money they are the set of people that fall for it.

I guess your friend didn’t had much amount in his wallets, that’s why without any second thought he clicked on those malicious links and invited himself the trouble. As a newbie you should always try to learn the basics. There will be tons of threads here on the forum regarding which wallet to choose and how to store your funds more securely, but rather than going through it, he just got greedy and clicked on those links. Now nothing can be done, this will only be used as an example now on how to be more careful about your wallets and coin.

That is why it is really important to know the basics and understand the dos and don'ts of bitcoin investing. Although OP's friend is greedy, most likely that the person didn't know the dangers of losing bitcoins by just connecting to an unknown site. If the plan is to hold it long-term and not traded actively, it should be stored in a hard wallet. Another thing is privacy, avoid telling the whole world that you own a bitcoin. It could be someone who knew that OP's friend has bitcoin so they targeted him.

This type of baits are very very common in crypto space. I personally dislike to use Telegram groups because of it. I obviously confirm human greed is true evil in this. But we should shame thiefs as well. Crypto thiefs are like the worst kind on internet. They know there is nearly noone to stop them. They sometimes get very very cocky even. I wish we could have some kind of proper barrier to avoid stealing after we permit 3rd parties to connect to our wallet.

This is a common story here and a common way for scammers to use this kind of trick because they know that there are still lots of newbies who will gonna believe them. Too bad because this is sent to multiple people in social media through the help of AI bots. right now, there is nothing we can really do but arm ourselves with the knowledge to prevent others to become a victim of this kind of fraud. Most people will gonna fall because of the same reason and that's their greed and wanting to have more than they have even though they have enough but because of their greed, they see themselves as needy until the end of time.
Greed and ignorance are factors that can make us lose everything when investing, especially investing with bitcoin, so far many people we have noticed are very tempted to be able to get big income easily without wanting to learn more about bitcoin science when investing in it, no wonder again if this incident is often experienced by beginners because most of them when investing they cannot store their investments safely and are not careful when they want to connect their wallet with third party sites.

Something is not right with this story. First, you mentioned that your friend had invested in Bitcoin, but later stated that he linked his wallet to a malicious website. However, from what I understand, Bitcoin wallets do not typically offer support for WEB3 or decentralized apps. So either your friend hasn't actually invested in Bitcoin or there is something missing in his story.

Looks like you are now shaming your friend for making this mistake, how is greed involved in this story of yours? Unless there is more to the message you claimed he got on telegram? Do you mind sharing that? No one is above this mistake and it shall pass, he has learned a lesson and he will be more careful in the future. He give up access to his fund by connecting the wallet to the platform, I have made such a mistake before, though the money I lost is not much and I learned.

It would be great if your friend explains in detail about this scam. This would be more helpful, rather than just saying "don't connect wallets to suspicious apps and don't click on suspicious links". What was the scam about? Investing BTC in a HYIP/ponzi scheme, which promises 10000% return? What was the name of the scam? More people should be aware of this scam and stay away from it.
Yes, greed is a big sin, but greed also makes the people invest in assets like Bitcoin. In your friend's case, it's not about greed only . It's about not being cautious, not doing your doo diligence, being ignorant and naive.

You are right, we all have greed, otherwise, we wouldn't have risked investing in bitcoin in hopes of making huge profits. Greed only becomes evil and causes consequences when we have no knowledge, are lazy, and do not want to work hard but want to have a lot of money easily. OP's story is not so new in the market, hopefully his friend will learn a valuable lesson after that loss. Nothing is free in this world, free things never have value.

It is important to always verify any link before clicking because scammers are everywhere. You didn't state the kind of wallet your friend had and how he got greedy but generally it is accurate to use a decentralized wallet and never be greedy. These scammers keep devising different sophisticated means of swindling people of their hard earned money that's why we need to be very careful and keep our password and secret seeds safe.  But I don't understand your link between covetousness and death but I assume you are referring to some religious teachings that states that covetousness leads to death.

In the bad news, good news is your friend did invested only some of his savings in Bitcoin, not all of his savings so he lost some of it, not all of it. Good news that he can have other chances to start again.

Ignore strangers should be first thing in your priority list.
If strangers send you links, ask you to click on those links and if they give you such "too good to be true offers", more solid reasons to ignore them.

This is what always happens when you decide not to be satisfied with what you have and also when yo let greed get the best of you just as in the case of your friend.
One thing I have noticed about greedy and lazy people is that even if they find out that a particular stuff is not legit as long as that site has promised to give them a significant amount of money, they are still going to risk everything they have just to get even if you investigate the site and find substantial proof that the site in quest is a scam site they will still pay a deaf ear and continue with their activities there. They only time they do actually listen is after they have been scammed that's when they'll finally sit down to listen to reasons. And now that your friend has been scammed I'm very sure he won't just go around anymore connecting his wallet to random sites, if at all he wants to connect a wallet he should have a separate wallet and a separate device (if it's able to get one) to use he should have a wallet he uses for airdrop.

Your friend's wallet wasn't hacked, they gave up access to a 2nd party by linking their wallet or giving out their private keys.
A hack would be a breach or a compromise on the system, this is a silly mistake.
Your friend's account was not hacked, his friend gave scammer access to his wallet. Like giving a link on Telegram and accessing that link through his wallet phase. In this his account is transferred to the second person and he takes everything as his own.
This is the reason why I caution that newbies should not invest until they have gotten enough fundamental information about the assets and how to secure themselves, without this, they would get quickly lose their funds.
This is the main point that beginners should not invest. Like the OP's friend went through a lot of trouble he invested. He lost everything in an instant because of his mistake. I agree with you that beginners should first get good experience from here and gain skills then invest otherwise they will lose all their balance at any time and be totally broke later. And I think everyone should be corrected from here.

The punishment for greed is loss which I think your friend is passing through where ever he or she is right now, but however, I think you have to learn from his experience not to click on links you know nothing about otherwise you end up losing all the funds in your wallet. Scammers are always ready to get people attracted with links that leads them to doom. As some one who is a member of the forum here, learn not to be greedy to things you know nothing about so that you won't be like your friend.

Greed sometimes ends with regrets. I have had the experience before where I advised a friend on a particular trade which we were on that faithful evening and at a particular trade point I collected my profit and I told him to do the same but he ignored my advice waiting for it to go up again and after a while till today he still, the price dropped like a tree falling down with full speed to our greatest surprise it was a total market crash. Till today he still regrets that event and he has learnt his lessons from that and it was a bitter experience for him as the funds he  invested  was for a particular purpose but he was trying to see how he could get some more money from the trade so he could use for some other activity as well. The incidence really taught him a lesson not to be greedy.

Yeah, greed  always results in regret, but it primarily affects people who are dissatisfied with what they have and who also don't consider what they will get or become wealthy in a short period of time; this primarily happens with many people, such as newbies. I believe the information you shared will help some people understand that greed is not a good thing and it really affects many investors' plans, and I advise we shouldn't be greedy to give a scammer an opportunity to enter our wallet.

Greed can be used for good, though.  "Everything in moderation", and all that.  The way I tend to see it, satoshi harnessed greed to create the very alignment of incentives that keeps Bitcoin in check.  The reward to secure the network should always be greater than the reward for attacking the network.  Bitcoin is, effectively, fuelled by just the right amount of greed.  And from this, we get a permissionless, censorship-resistant, freedom-loving network.  Undeniably a good thing.

I think, in this particular case, however, the issue was simply too much greed.  Your friend had a lapse in judgement.  Clear and rational thought was clouded by overwhelming greed and, as a result, they paid the price for it.

I have heard So many complains about how people got scammed on trust wallet or other wallets through a link that was sent to them and a friend of mine was a victim as well.
Greediness is never a good thing and it always leads us to regretting at the end. This is why it's necessary we avoid clicking or to follow any links that is sent to us via telegram or any platform if we have our wallets stored in our phones.

"Sin of Covetousness and Death in Sin"

Understand greed, which is an ultimate emotion to destroy the purity of the heart and slowly slowly forced the soul to a dead end.  Those who can't control his / her greed emotion in any term whether it's money, power, or any material is not a believer on the day of judgment. A greedy person is actually living in a misconception. No one needs a lot of money to live with a small amount you can live but for achieving the comfort zone a person gets obsessed by money and other things and this whole time a person forgets his destination.

End is death always and no one can escape... Quran says

For the rest of the OP I do agree in hasty and greedy maximum of the people get trapped.

When clicking up random links on the internet whether you have just seen that one or been provided by someone or anything else talking about free money or easy way on getting rich.Greed would really be putting
you into a hard situation on which you would really be losing all of your funds. Most of the time it would really be giving out some access or permission on transactions made but most of  the time
is really that those privatekeys had been inputted or those phrases had been exposed which we do know that this is the primary thing needed for someone to have
access into your funds. So this would always falls down as a costly lesson learned.

Why friend and is that too greedy, does he really know the message from the telegram or is it just a random person so he believes in the link provided without checking first or is he really interested in the aspect that is being offered?

I think your friend doesn't understand about this deception, so they are so trusting and easily deceived.

I'm also a little confused by this story, bitcoin was hacked just because it was connected to the site, did he use a trustwallet wallet? Or maybe the OP's friend just lost altcoins because there's no way bitcoin can be linked to web3 like you said.
It's a little confusing too.

In short, most likely your friend got phished by that link provided that it came from a random stranger on Telegram. Greed really will bring you nothing but will take everything from you. Your friend learned a lesson here, do we know how much we're talking about in here?
If it's quite big then certainly that's an expensive lesson for him to learn but I hope that it's not that much for the lesson that he has to learn that he should trust no one if it's coming from Telegram since it's a place for most scammers.

That being said, scammers are known to create fraudulent sites and apps that mimic legitimate ones in order to trick users into giving up their private keys or other sensitive information. So it is possible that your friend was tricked into giving up his private key by a fraudulent site. However, this is not something that would typically happen.
