This year GPU mining is little drawback so some peoples are  stay away in this platform but future is positive to investors because mining platform also depends on the Bitcoin price it will move forward automatically profit is gradually increasing. So my opinion is mining is the one time investment we should earn profit and this is great experience to our career.

In my opinion gpu mining is not fair in 2018 . The price for one gpu grew very consistenly and the ROI can take up to 12-18 months.
The future of gpu mining probably will be dead if the manufacturers will still pump the price on the market

It has been like this for years with mining.

BTC was created in 2009 and virtually nobody mined it and if you mined it you could do it with a laptop.

Then when it started to get value its when all the competition and fighting started. First it was the CPUs who were killed off due to GPUs, then it was the FGPAs then it was the ASICs.

Mining was always unfair... because it kept increasing in value so its considered normal.

I don't understand it too well, but why mine if POS coins exist and will become more ubiquitous?  Why spend on hardware, when software can displace it?  I am not sure how transactions are validated in POS, or the drawbacks that make mineable coins still persist in all honesty.

I think ASIC's will gradually displace mining on graphics cards as the graphics card pushed out of the market mining on CPUs. Many coin makers do not want to change the mining algorithm of their cryptocurrency.

I don't think so. If a Device will displace GPUs it will be FPGAs and not ASICs.

So what do you think about GPU mining in the future?

My opinion is that GPU mining will still be here but only for power-efficient GPUs. If you have old power hungry ones then you will be out of luck because they will consume more power than the amount of crypto they will generate. If i had to bet, i would pick 1080tis.

Profit will probably so low like less than a dollar per GPU per day though.

I'm going to agree with most of what has already been said here and guess that GPU mining will continue to exist in the future, but it will not be nearly as profitable as it was in the past. POW hasn't been abandoned yet (you're massively overexaggerating it right now), and in my eyes there's yet to be a largely successful fully-POW coin yet (with only ETH really being the largest future possible development in that area). POW will continue to be the major proof system in the area of crypto, and there's not any big competitor to it yet.

ROI is no longer under a year for GPUs in 99% of cases, but that doesn't mean there's no longer profit in it. Risk is indeed greater than it was previously, but there's still profit to be made. GPU Mining hasn't truly died yet, just like in the past when ASICs replaced GPUs in Scrypt mining- profitability greatly sank, but there was still profit in other areas to be found, albeit very low amounts (though I will say the situation with the crypto environment and mining environment was much different than now).

It will be reduced in terms of uses but for sure there still coins that will be created for POW mining, we won't be able to say the actual future of this mining components as development will continue and like what you have said there's new way of producing coins but there's also developers that will continue to support this type of mining as they will still see the potentials and profits will be there.

Gpu is compatible of almost all algoritm, so i guess that will always be some profitable coin to mine and you can sell it for gaming.
ASIC is good but it change quickly and turn obsolete with a fork of a coin/algorithm or at release of a new powerfull model.

I am worried about this rumor of FPGA, that can mine with high hash rate, low power consumption and it is programmable even it some coin fork and changes the algo.

ASICs or FPGAs will not kill GPU mining.  There are too many new algos and coins out there that spring up that will provide profitability.  The real threat to GPU mining is the crypto bubble bursting (more than it has in the past 4 months).  All of these masternode shitcoins and other pointless coins will get to the point where they are not sustainable and not worth mining.  I will say though that ASICs and FPGAs will weed out the novice miners who are clueless.  The real profits are there for those who put in time and effort.  Gone are the days of ordering a bunch of gpus and pointing them at an ETH pool for instant profits

Glad I read this, have been considering expanding my mining operation, but have concerns that ASICS will slowly, but surely erode the GPU community.

Call me nostalgic, but I consider GPU mining more grass roots. It will be a sad day when I shut these humming heaters down Sad

future of gpu mining = bond like gains 1-2 percent yearly,  you'll roi but not make much profit from it.

fpga = moderate risk/reward,

asic = high risk high reward.

So what do you think about GPU mining in the future?

i think gpu mining will remain quite ok fot the coin which will fight against asics.. like monero did, for example. for other coins, like btc or dash, gpu are useless long time ago. and i think nothing will change in the future about it

ASIC is starting to circulate widely and the lack of concrete steps of the developers to cope it,
Supply memory chips in the world that are not able to keep up with demand so the price of GPUs and other components is skyrocketing then now there is a type of staking coin and type masternode coin. POW has been abandoned. meaning that GPU, CPU, and ASIC can not be used anymore in the future.
So what do you think about GPU mining in the future?
