When Bitcoins first started, it was seen as a form of geeky adventure. Nerds and geeks were viewed by non-IT people with different lens. But perhaps those nerds and geeks who started mining for fun half a decade ago and hoarded thousands of bitcoins are now the new millionaires.

Who's laughing now? Perhaps the overweight geeks hiding in the basements with thousands of bitcoins will be overwhelmed by hot chicks in this time and age
They may be now millionaire if they haven't sold all of their bitcoin when price goto 100$ or so and the ones who have bought those cheap must be elite traders and holding all of those strongly till now are new millionaires.  Grin

I dont think we actually even have enough geeks left to bring into bitcoin, were at that time now where we need to be bringing in more mainstream people to the bitcoin world, and what this means is were probably going to have to get a much more simplified wallet, one that you cant really go wrong with. As soon as someone trys bitcoin and they lose a loads of money it pretty much ends their experience with btc.

Nope.  Geeks are not the new millionaires.  Sorry.

Everyone wants to work on the computer these days.
If you are a geek now, you are late to the party.
Every dork and his grandma are trying to be web
developers.

You know who makes good money now?  Plumbers
and electricians.  Skilled labor.  etc.   They are making
big bucks because they have rare skills.

Jobs in computer science are keeping up with the influx of people going into computer science majors. Most won't be "millionaires" but it's still a profitable and growing field.

Im no early adopter but Id guess my story holds true for a majority of users who were.

I joined in 2012, after the first bubble to $32, with a price of about $5-7 per bitcoin. At the time I hadnt bought any, only mined, but at one point I remember adding up all the coins I had ever owned and it was around 200 (not a lot but Id like to have them all back now). When the price went to $30 I got excited and sold some. Then it went to $100 and I sold more, then $200 and I sold, etc etc etc... At some point I realized my mistake and started buying back coins. Im still very very far from the 200 I once had but I also am now invested in more than just BTC.

I assume most people who have been active the entire time sold a majority of their coins early and now wish they hadnt. The ones who managed to keep the coins probably lost/forgot about bitcoin for awhile and are now very happy or just got lucky and held on through it all.

Well we can all dream, right?

Don't know how many people still have coins mined in 2009-2010.  That guy paid 10k btc for a pizza, and that's basically how bitcoin was viewed back then.   And if there are btc millionaires because of holding coins for years, I haven't seen any here.
I had a friend from Japan who held on to his coins from since then, he had nearly 80k bitcoins and he saw the opportunity and sold most of his bitcoins slowly back at 2013 and he's got a pretty good house out of that.

Hey, there are many of them driving luxurious cars and paid off their bonds with their Bitcoin holdings. You should ask your friend to write us an anonymous article to promote Bitcoin to others. We

need some positive stories and things like this to boost adoption. You never know, the person buying some Bitcoins today, might just be that friend you are talking about now, in the future. It takes

a lot of faith to invest in a unproven technology or a new commodity. Geeks rule the World!!!!!

someone in the range of 10k-100k coin can still have at least half, which is still huge, i doubt they sold everything if they were really that smart

early adopter are still out there, waiting for better value to dump

an early adopter of bitcoin that we are talking about here is someone who started mining bitcoin when it was worthless (<$0.1) and did it for just fun and maybe because they like the technology, these kind of people are not thinking about "dumping" as you and me. they are still interested in the technology and are using bitcoin.

It's basically a repetition of the mid-nineties software and Internet boom. A significant number of today's richest individuals laid the foundations of their fortune during these times. Rich people often did something radically new or unconventional in their life and had the strength to persist despite social rejection. Every innovation needs a vanguard that scouts the terrain and prepares it for the rank and file.

Not if they keep hiding... Cheesy Personally I don't think that most Bitcoin geeks are overweight. I also don't think that Bitcoiners will easily let go of their precious coins just to impress some chicks that are pure gold-diggers. The early Bitcoiners are way too intelligent for such things...

geek word catch widest meaning that what you though on your post above,if you're geek doesn't mean you're that advanced on technology because geek is definitely about people who really get into thing that they liked not only technology

Defender of Bitcoin
The IT industry harbors some of the highest paying jobs in the world and this pertains not only to Bitcoin but also to all of the diverse array of specializations in the IT sector. Being self-employed and working from home having an IT job can pay as good as working a 9 to 5 job carrying a briefcase and whoever took advantage of Bitcoin when it was still emerging, is now laughing all the way to the bank cashing out their coins while the pessimistic onlookers are kicking themselves for not investing into Bitcoin. However there are also other people from different walks of life other than IT who also invested into Bitcoin early and are now reaping the rewards. We should work smarter not harder  Wink

At least there's a publicized case:

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/dec/09/bitcoin-forgotten-currency-norway-oslo-home

Man buys $27 of bitcoin, forgets about them, finds they're now worth $886k

"Kristoffer Koch invested 150 kroner ($26.60) in 5,000 bitcoins in 2009, after discovering them during the course of writing a thesis on encryption. "
A nice tipic to start with there are always some geeks that are going to be a milionair because they are using the bitcoins the right way. Off course would younger people understand it better than older ones.
