I didn't know much about the history of Poker either, although I imagined that it had evolved over time, like other card games and life in general. The evolution that I have come to see was from classic poker or 5 Card Draw to Texas Holdem.

Those of you who like poker stay tuned because I will open a thread in Games and Round giving a prize for the best hand analysis. I was planning to do it at Christmas, but maybe I will do it sooner.

Of course poker is the most popular of gambling card games and this naturally led to the emergence of an unofficial world poker championship such as the WSOP in which the prize money for first place increased from $30,000 to $10,000,000 and the total number of participants increased from 7 people to 8,569.

Indeed, poker is one of the oldies games in gambling.

Why people enjoyed and keep playing poker? It's because of someone skills, it's a pure skill unlike relying on pure luck on other gambling games. This is also why we have a list of best of the best in poker that is written on history of poker.

Yes, it's your skills vs someone, so in the beginning it's like you against like 5 players in the table. But as the game progresses it might be just 1:1.

Interesting history, although I'm seldom play poker, but I do like it, and we all know, there are a lot of small to big poker tournaments now. Even televised and got a lot of viewers and we have seen variations of it. Even in movies they are being glamorized:

The fun fact is that if we talk to someone about Poker, they will think about Texas Hold'em, and that's different than the original poker game, the Texas version was created close to 1960. So, it's kind of new if we compare it with the old and original Poker Game.

I would like to share some more information about the Hold 'em because the starting was really epic.

Quote
In 1967, a group of Texan gamblers and card players, including Crandell Addington, Doyle Brunson, and Amarillo Slim were playing in Las Vegas. This is when "ace high" was changed from the original form in which aces were low. Addington said the first time he saw the game was in 1959. "They didn't call it Texas hold 'em at the time, they just called it hold 'em.…

As for me o, poker game is as old as society but not as old as man. I to this world and see poker games. People like to bet with it. Gamblers used to changed themselves when playing poker game. Poker is one of my best favorite game in the casino world. Dice game is one of the games I love.

I think society is as old as man because man was born inside the society, poker games are also old enough like you said. It is one of the most played games of the casinos. The cards is not really easy to play like you don't know the other person's mind. Is a game of mind reading and very smart mind.

Rather than the history of Poker games,it is interesting to see a big list of popular faces good at poker. The list comprising of players, actors, icons shows how Poker game is considered to be the game of everyone. Poker being the most played games in casinos, and it is something old school having something classic.

players were armed with knives and firearms. Those gamblers did not hesitate to resort to violence if they felt they were cheated.

Nice history. Fits right in the time of wild west where Buster Scruggs is looking for gunslingers to shoot. It must be easier to play with 20 cards which I guess anyone smart enough to figure how to win will be accused of cheating.

I would certainly not play the game but watch from a distant betting who's going to die tonight.
From the one line you quoted above, it is very eminent that this game has a taken alot of lives which we might know of or has ever been mentioned anywhere, but all the same , it is pleasing and at times mysterious when we gather to find out the true history and origination of most of the games we play and enjoy today, the line above wouldn't allow me to stop imagining how many soldiers ( or maybe not just soldiers alone but on lookers as well) have lost their lives in the course of playing poker - My heart goes out to them and their families, where ever they are, they should feel proud for they have taken a part in shaping the poker we all enjoy today.

This is an interesting history for the poker game. I know it that because it is a gambling game that it spread will not be by missionaries since it is not evangelical in nature  Grin The Americans spread this game through their military conquest. The soldiers carry this game across from what I read. This is interesting to know and I believe that more gambling games will be spread by soldiers just like the poker game.

Of all the games in a casino, the only one I actually enjoy is Poker. "Poque" is one of the most popular games in the gambling industry. It has been around as we know it for around 100 years. It is said to have been brought from Eastern Europe onto the Americas by New World immigrants and since then has suffered several mutations; nowadays it has evolved into dozens of other gambling options and it is probably the most played online casino game in the world. Its history is quite interesting!

Check below to read more about the History of Poker

"Where and when was poker invented? Poker's earliest ancestors came from Europe, the Middle East, and China. The game as we know it today finally took shape in the early 1800s in America. One of the earliest forms of poker called ‘poque' was played in gambling dens in New Orleans. The game spread from New Orleans, gained popularity among soldiers during the American Civil War, and eventually migrated to the western frontier. The rest, as they say, is history."
