I haven't put many people on ignore in the last year or so, but I haven't deleted my old list. My main use for ignore was to avoid the pointless bitching threads, all caps posters, and those using useless images or infographics. The other ones were those who insist on pyramid quotes, and other misuses.

I probably should clear the list, and create a page with an explanation when I add a member in future.

Please can you change the Ignore option on the forum...

I think the IGNORE function is actually good as it is, only the SHOW/HIDE button is broken and shows only one line with a single sentence, which is not enough to be able to read.

This problem can be solved by adjusting the SHOW button, to fully display the entire post even with quotes.

A single line is just not enough because it is not possible to read or even to scroll properly to see other sentences or quotes.

I was forced many times to Unignore members, only to be able to read their post and to IGNORE them back again just after.

All because I was not able to read the post when used SHOW function and sometimes I am just curies if the quality changed, especially when I haven't seen Ignored member for a while.

you are excluded from theymos trustlist,so who cares what you wants?your colleagues?

This comment is fully off-topic and should be deleted.

Off-topic replies have become a big problem. From now on, I will be deleting such replies without notice, forum-wide. If your replies disappear, this is probably why.

All replies must respond to the topic's original post in some way, even if they are replying to an on-topic reply. If your reply has nothing to do with the topic post, either add some content that is relevant or create a new topic.

Please report off-topic posts as soon as you see them.

Exclude doesn't mean he is scammer or banned from forum. Exclude from trust list means theymos do not trust his feedback's. That's it, it doesn't mean TMAN can't make suggestion for forum.

However, I think it's not necessary since you cam unignore users during reading post. So after read you can ignore again. Depends on you how are you going to handle your ignore list.

You would probably end up seeing the thread on private mode to read his post. Smiley

Yeah, I was thinking the same, what's the point of forcing the ignore to last a few days or weeks when you can't control yourself,,,,

Next, you're going to ask to remove the logout button, then a program that prevents you from installing a different browser, then a drone that hovers over you 24/7/31 and shots a tranquilizer dart whenever you try to take a peek at your girlfriend/wife laptop....

I have accidentally clicked on the ignore button when trying to click on a persons trust (from a post), and when trying to click on the “profile” and “PM” icons, all adjust to the ignore button.
That happens to me on Mobile all the time indeed. So let's not change anything Smiley

I am ok with the current option or result with the ignore button. Only thing I think theymos can consider is that hide the username as when you ignore someone you can still see her/his username.

yes but once I un-ignore sometimes I forget to ignore again - next thing I know i have to stop myself replying to the next load of shit they are typing. it is very possible that I am a special kind of stupid in this regard though

Use Show/Hide.

Slightly off-topic: for some inexplicable reason I can't ignore myself. That would be a useful feature.

I have a few people on ignore and what I do is wait until somebody quotes them to see what they have to say. Sometimes they're quoted because they are actually being interesting for a change, sometimes they're quoted and its a reinforcing reminder why I have them on ignore. Reading a quoted comment from someone on ignore lessens the blow of its offensiveness somehow.

I know I am not the only one who has thought this, Maybe it could be 30 days? 14? whatever it maybe, just a forced period of time that the ignore stays in place for.
I don't think it is a good idea to automatic control Ignore button effects. Even with what LoyceV proposed (10 merits earned to be automatically un-ignore by the system), it won't make sense too. What happen with cases that abuse merit system? 10 merits won't be hard to abuse if they are abusers. So, you will have to read their shitposts again, and click on the Ignore button again. That's a boring cycle.
If you know  a guy, whom ignored by you for months ago, then you are curious to see that he or she actually changed posting habit or not. Simply click on Unignore to check. If you satisfy with changes, keep it unignore, whilst if you don't satisfy with minor changes or without change in posting habit, click on Ignore button again.  Cheesy
Ignore > Unignore (to check potential changes of posting habit) > Maintaining Unignore / Reverting back to Ignore.

That may be sound ideal but of course it is admin who can change that.

I just want to give my opinion on this for I never ignore users here. Though you think that it is worth it to ignore a user but mind you that even the dull and ignorant has still have their story and whatever it will be then we will just have to listen or read. It is up to you though reading the post for you can scan and skip reading it it is necessary.

A user does not have to make good post all the time for it will depend on how knowledgeable a user to the topic that could response well in a discussion.

Excluded from trustlist does not mean that you are banned from using the forum. As long you are forum user you can request for the feature that you find useful for yourself and forum.

It is for theymos to decide whether he find the feature use for forum members and able to implement it.

Unignore should have a 10 Merit penalty.

Very bad choice,TMAN will be able to pay that penalty but most of forum user will not able to do it. (In the end, TMAN need this feature, so no use for TMAN.)

I have accidentally clicked on the ignore button when trying to click on a persons trust (from a post), and when trying to click on the “profile” and “PM” icons, all adjust to the ignore button.

+1, sometime I accidentally press ignore.

I have given up even trying to ignore people. However, if there was a feature that I could not override for a certain amount of time, that would be rather helpful.
The worst thing you could do (for your own sanity) is to give up on the ignore button.  But I'm squarely in Vod's corner here.  We don't need some sort of functionality whereby you can't un-ignore a member until a certain time passes.  That reminds me a lot of problem gamblers who give their money to family members/friends and tell them that no matter what--regardless of how much pleading and begging the gambler does, they are not to give him his money back.  There is definitely a lack of self-control in both cases, though my comparison isn't fair to the gambler.  It is easier by orders of magnitude to not peek at an ignored member's posts or take that person off ignore than it is for the problem gambler.

C'mon, TMAN!  Just use that little button and stick to your decision.  Yes, I've had problems with doing that same thing in the past but I don't stop trying.  I've managed to keep cuntohunter and most of his posse on ignore for a while now, and I don't feel the need to undo that.  At this point they're just rehashing all the same crap anyway, and it gets boring trying to come up with witty responses which I know are going to be wasted finger energy anyway.

That's quite the leap. Distrusted/excluded is a loaded and misunderstood portion of the feedback system. It just means the feedback left by that person isn't trusted or considered useful.

If theymos really distrusted them you would see it in their feedback, and trust score. To round off your nonsense theymos considers suggestions from everyone, you never know when someone will have a stroke of genius.

Not going to lie TMAN you're likely SOL. There may be a solution though, you could use the test forum as like a rehab to ween you off your crippling troll addiction. It won't be easy but i think with enough booze and smoke you might just come out of this clean.

There is also nothing to stop you from creating a new account to read their posts.

Also if they post something about you, it may be necessary to respond to them.

You would need to accompany that with the capability to hide quotes of ignored profiles (or something like that). I have few people on ignore, but often found that, regardless, they appear quoted on someone else’s posts, and eventually that drives me to unignore some of them just to be able to read through the thread properly.

No ignore is ignore, if you decide someone isn’t worth your time it should stand for a while, I guarantee there would be less handbag throwing if it was implemented, even a 7day hold would work

I have the same trouble as TMAN. Every time I try to ignore someone, I end up peeking, anyway. I have given up even trying to ignore people. However, if there was a feature that I could not override for a certain amount of time, that would be rather helpful. I like how PMs are set up. You can place someone on that ignore list and be oblivious to whether they tried to PM you or not.
