It's interesting to see how things always gravitate in the same patterns - but with the speed of information of the internet + the network effect of the platforms, it's happening faster than ever. Even though I'm a libertarian (or exactly because of that), I quite agree with some suggestions that some companies resemble natural monopolies and should, therefore, be regulated as a public utility.

Thank you for posting this!!!

Please set up a free wifi access point and block access to the top 10 or 20 Internet services, such as Facebook, Alphabet (Google, youtube, gmail, their javascript library and cookie tracking service, their advertisement and cookie tracking service, Google Play, anything Android related, etc.), Twitter, Possibly Microsoft, Netflix, Comcast streaming services, Apple, possibly eBay, possibly Craigslist, and whatever other monopoly you can think of.

So we can officially say internet became way too centralized.
Gallery? Use Instagram.
Communication? Only Facebook.
Microblog? Twitter.
Videos? YouTube.
Search engine? Google.
If any of these sites will be shut down, there will be problem for current internet users. They will need to set up new service. And R.I.P. these data. Try to use multiple services for this. You will lose only part if it will get shut down. At least Wikipedia won something once.
You can still send sms:)

Centralized internet is the falling decaying fiefdom of the hasbara, ready to censor and silence ideas and all opposition to their vision of being the suprem tribe on earth... in a sense they aren't wrong, why do people use 0 revenue sharong centralized services because girls too dumb to use computer before facefuk are posting skin pictures...

Pathetic, who care where those users are... they are valueless anyway.

one way or another you need to understand that all the people who today are using the Internet to manage their finances and their lives are practically dependent on it and are at risk. Apparently the Internet was originally used for moss and created only for the control of humanity.

yes, it is very difficult for users, especially those who have been very loyal to the internet media. each has advantages and different features. it depends on the user in choosing their social media. eg for facebook he has features to share post, chat etc. special instagram for photo upload and sharing. all have different features and advantages.so all options depending on you wear them

Yes there are big companies who we marked for doing one thing on the internet. But still, there are a lot of sites that we are using for and would not be just monopolized by this. There are a lot of sites for pictures, socializing or even for searching information.

Only if you are too mainstream. Besides, I think people have backup anyway, especially Youtube creators. They probably have a copy of their vids in a hard drive, and one on the cloud too. If any of these services fail, that's not much of a problem.

What you should be worrying are how these companies are trying to build monopolies, sometimes buying out emerging rivals just to avoid having any threats to them.

Discoverability: we use centralization of services to solve the fact that my phone and your phone don't know about each other (yet), and so the best we've come up with (yet) is for these two to be (at best) introduced via a centralized service, (at worst) proxied via a centralized service.
