It would be stupid to manipulate the price in such a way that they would kill bitcoin. They probably have so much more to gain from manipulating, that the last thing they want is for the price to crash.
Agree on all but the crash part...
There is definitely too much to gain to let it go to shit. They will, however, crash it over and over. How else will they gain more from buying low and scare enough people to sell to them? A $10 dump is nothing. A $100 series of dumps makes people uneasy and they scoop them up at the bottom.

That's a plus one from me as well. The only thing that'll best them is sustained and widespread genuine demand, but as long as they're playing their games it's going to scare away the potential newcomers.
