The name bitcoin is good. If given a choice, I might have named it e-coin.
There are so many alts in place, people can just give their preferred name to an alt.  Grin

I wonder whether the smallest unit was named Satoshi when bitcoin started, or the name was proposed later as a tribute to Satoshi Nakamoto.

Cheesy Yes, the name is so well conceived.
I would have named it the InternetCoin or the BankFearCoin...

Bitcoin, its a cryptocurrency and most people know what it is all about by now. Now I was wondering the following, if you could redo bitcoin, how would u have named it?
Do u think the name affects the globalization and growth? Do u agree bitcoin (bit) sounds ''geeky''? I am interested in seeing some other comments on this.

Personally I think the name is simple and smart. I do think it has to be globally reasonable (unlike ex; doge), and geeky or not, bitcoin makes sense because its an electronic currency.

CryptoCarmen is best choice.

Even if we got the chance to change the name now i dont think there is a much better branding name, its genius.

I like the name and am of course used to it now, but the coin part can confuse people but I think it's there to make sure people know it is money.

The name 'Bitcoin' is perfect. It's simple, brandable and easy to remember. Can't think of anything better than bitcoin. Perhaps like Digicoin, Bytecoin but never mind i still stick to bitcoin

Bitcoin is a strong name, easy to remember, and it's something people can pronounce no matter what country they come from.

As someone with English as second language, I disagree.

As second name I would probably go for PeerCoin.

Bitcoin has built its brand through millions of dollars worth of publicity and VC money.

To change it now you might as well start a new alt using the current code.

Want to start selling Coke under a new, more desirable name? I am sure it would sell just as well or even better.

The name is mostly irrelevant provided that is short enough, is not insulting, and can be vocalized without serious problems. It doesn't have to be particularly "smart".
The underlying product / service / concept is much more important. Once that is adopted by a sufficient number of people the name will become more appealing simply through frequent exposure (the name is mentioned in conversation, press.. etc.), because most people like what seems familiar to them.

When I first heard about "Bitcoin", I found that the name was a little bit awkward. But that didn't lessen my curiosity. Once I learned about the underlying concept I was electrified. Now, using the name "Bitcoin" feels perfectly normal like using "Dollar" or "Euro" (which by the way a are much dumber names).

i don't think there is a better name than the Bitcoin,
BTW,How and who will spread the new name to the world, many people will be confused at that time..

The question is more about if it would be called diffrent from start (maybe a name without 'coin' in it, and without a tech part (bit), like most brands). Would it made a difference in how people think about it? Because most antitech ppl get scared from words like 'bit'. It just sounds too techy and they will ignore it. Kinda like the same ppl that say iPhone is easyer to use then android (witch is a total joke imo)
