choose in this year is not like some time ago. now select the ICO like looking for hay placed needles. many scams and of course it would be detrimental if it comes to wrong in choosing the ICO. Event though i'm not an investors, i've always looking for the best project possible cause getting the best and real project will also ensure that the bounty campaign will also be success in promoting the project itself.
Always look for an ICO with an existing working products, there are lot of ICO projects out there with existing products and services and that is the only way to prevent scams and fraud but don't expect too much when investing ICO because not all investment will skyrocket after the sales. It may take sometime and maybe a year or so. Only 10 percent or less have successful ICO project that increase their profit after introducing into the market some are fail but it does not mean it can't revive and that's a normal cycle in any form of business.

entered in the ICO is not the thing to do in vain. too much current ICO will only give bad influence as a scam is pretty much the case. There are indeed serious ICO to be able to continue to grow but some merely follow the changing times to get results so it will not be able to survive in the market. you're right. A lot of scams. There will be no such projects as ETH or NEO with dozens of X. Personally, I do not participate in ICO anymore. Don't see the point 
I believe there still are some good projects out there. The real problem is that the scams are just too many and the discouragement too great. Debar this, the crypto industry would have continued in boom because the adoption would have been incentivized by a bandwagon effect.
Due to these scams a legit ICO is very tough to find. People are losing their trust in it, which is not a good sign at all.
There are few altcoins which are really good in terms of innovations and profit margins. Some of these coins are backed by some big companies. Sadly because of the scam ICOs people dont find confidence in these projects.We must carefully investigate before investing and not throw away any good project in fear of the scam ICOs

Or why not just stop investing to ICOs and just go with the normal tokens / coins that are already listed on exchanges?
Doing research is still good enough to know if the ICO is a scam or not that will give you strength on what to avoid.
It depend to the investor could not trust the Ico's and they are spend there money to invest and earn income. If you want too avoid Ico's that will scam in the end. try to research about the whitepaper and project profile if the Ico are good and legit.
