To say it a different way, humanity is all of the same race as human beings. We all have heads, bodies, arms and hands, legs and feet, torsos, minds, emotions, and spirits/souls. There should be respect for each other simply because all are human beings.
At the same time, there are great diversities in customs and traditions. Because of the customs and traditions ingrained into each of us, we should not be forced to live in the customs and traditions that don't agree with ours.
Respect people because they are people, even if you can't respect their customs and traditions.
