Back in the day, bitcoin was just nothing. Only a concept created by an anonymous developer.
The first real world transaction that happened, 10,000 btc for 2 pizza. Then it was something.
To think of it, paper money also has no value. It is only used as a medium of exchange backed by the government of the country using it.

Paper in exchange of lands,
paper in exchange of goods, services.
Currencies.
Why would someone agree to exchange land for paper?

Only gold and silver have real value.
Paper money maybe I can use it to wipe a poop on my ass.

Bitcoin, I see it same as other altcoins. If used as cryptocurrency, except that bitcoin came first and got the mainstream acceptance.

Therefore if bitcoin has value, altcoins would have too.
If bitcoin has no value, therefore same would be for altcoins used as cryptocurrency.

Other tokens must not be classified as cryptocurrency. Their intended use is not as a cryptocurrency. This would have different value based on its usage.

None of these projects will pay you dividends because they don't want to term their tokens as securities, nobody wants to be made the scapegoat in the space though with time Vilatik is a likely candidate for that plus the Slockit team

HODLing is an art, not just a word...
the next step for "evolution of altcoins" is when some new altcoins are created that does not exist out of greed but to function as a currency.

such altcoins won't have any premine, won't need any ICO, they won't be centralized, there won't be any pump and dumps in them, only consistant and strong price rise.

the developers of such coins won't be greedy wannabes who only care about becoming a millionaire overnight. they will instead focus on real features that can get the real adoption going for them not features that can cause bigger price pumps.

... i long for that day.
and i assure you none of these altcoins that you are naming will survive!

Most coins prices are driven on pure speculation right now, but to say that Bitcoin and Ethereum are the only 2 ones that are worth a damn is shortsighted. This space is so new, who know where it will go or what it will lead to. Its like the internet back in 95
There are 180 paper currencies in the world, many with a LOT of value. 2500 $ / BTC is nothing Smiley

Right, but there are also probably over 1000 altcoins already, so most of them will surely die in pain ) Maybe 1000 would survive, but most of that thousand was not released yet IMO  Grin

Lots of altcoin projects are basically clones of existing cryptos and some even only consist of a fancy whitepaper without any really finished code  Cool

What real value do alt coins have? Bitcoin is the storage of value. ETH is the main competitor with every new project being built on it's platform and the EEA giving it a nice foundation, it is also a store of value. The rest of alts don't really have much going for them. The Billionaires are invested in BTC/ETH as stores of value. What alts should be are start-ups that pay dividends to coin holders. This is the progression alts must take as BTC/ETH become the stores of value. You want to invest in a start-up and get monthly or yearly profit depending on how many coins(shares) you hold? Then buy into a company you believe in. Alts will basically become dividend paying shares of a company. So if you own 1% of an alts coins which are set at a cap you get 1% of that companies profit. The company will keep some for themselves while the rest are sold to investors. This is necessary to legitimize AltCoins and make them more than just a gambling game.

Aragon is a new coin offering to build companies on top of its network with the possibility of doing just that building a company and paying dividends while the aragon network handles things like accounting and sets up a court system for borderless decentralized companies to operate on.

There are many other altcoins offering similarly innovative features so its not just bitcoin and ETH but for sure they are the most stable ones.

the next step in the evolution of alts is their value's journey into the depths of the nearest latrine. that's the only news that counts for now.

there is no real value behind these coin, they are pump and dump for bitcoin, bitcoin as a real value and is used as a currency, altcoin are good to have more bitcoin quickly in your wallet, but i admit that some altcoin have potential to work side by side with bitcoinin the future, perhpas those altcoin can offer a good way for micro transaction where bitcoin perform bad there

If Alts paid dividends which would give the coin legitimate value these dumps would not be possible because it would have a real value. This would stabilize the whole market including BTC. Decentralized companies created by the people, funded by the people and owned by the people. The next step....

Each of them has also a unique feature to work on. They may all the same with being invested to or others are mined but they have unique purposes other than that. Most are famous because of what it can do rather than what was already in the marketcap or the coins the have realesed. Many examples but i'd rather not state any of them.

I didn't say they where a store of value I said they have some value. If they provide social media payments for posting and can pay dividends that is value. It has some value. Plus you can't say BTC is perfect store of value it might crash to $400 by the end of the year, how can you guarantee that will not happen? I'm betting a big chunk of my portfolio that it will not but it's happened before multiple times.

BTC is the projected store of value and has never caught mainstream like this before, it's only time before it is at a point where there is so much support it cannot be dumped. ETH has great support and is right up there. They just need to keep improving their code. Both will be stores of value and currencies, the faces of Crypto. Can some platform with better transaction speed and less fees overthrow BTC or ETH? Possibly but BTC/ETH code will improve to match. EosCoin/BosCoin are coming but I believe BTC/ETH code will improve to match and become the most trusted storage of value and currencies. Then for Alt Coins the market will be for different functions and uses that result in dividends paying the holders. That is how I see the future CryptoVerse functioning.

- you are a fool if you think billionaires are even going to be bothered with any of the cryptocurrencies.

Not many have came public but billionaire Mike Novogratz has, 10% of his net worth is in BTC/ETH, so you're wrong.

>>>The rest of alts don't really have much going for them

THAT IS NOT TRUE!

TRUE: Most of the rest dont' have much value but not ALL!

For example there are ones that are social platforms, some are gaming, some prediction, some super computers, and so on, so the truth is some have value!

It's not fair to spit on all of them and have your spit land on the innocent baby!

Those are cool but nothing worth putting your money into. The originals in BTC/ETH will reign as stores of value while these new ones will need to become dividend paying companies and get their true value from there. Every coin cannot become a storage of value just because it has a good concept and software company along with it. They need to become dividend paying companies that get their value from return on investment per year.

bitcoin is a currency and it is being adopted as a currency in major countries that matter. it also is a store of value because of the high security it has. only a fool will think it is only one of these and not both.

ethereum is a centralized platform for daps that the pumpers pretend it to be a currency but according to the developers it is not even supposed to be one. and it is not even good at that. and also i disagree with calling it a store of value, it is highly volatile and doesn't have the same security.
it is in a big bubble which can burst hard at any moment.

- you are a fool if you think billionaires are even going to be bothered with any of the cryptocurrencies.

the rest of the altcoins for the next step will enter their dumping phase and that phase can last for a very long time. and during that phase the prices will continue to decline as people lose money if they hold any bags.
you can start praying that bitcoin stops rising and starts some new FUD phase like what we saw during the $1250 drop earlier this year so the altcoins can pump again. otherwise the dumping is where we are headed.

if you think investing in any altcoin is a good idea right now, you may want to rethink again after looking at the prices today.
