In my own candid opinion, I disagree with this so called fuel subsidy removal. Standard of living was better during the era of fuel subsidy. It was better when public funds were misappropriated and Embezzled. Let them eat the money and allow us to buy fuel at a subsidized rate.
Imagine since the inception of this subsidy removal dating from 29th of may 2023, I have been unable to run my power generating set (generator) due to high cost of fueling. I now buy Ice block to cool my drinks since I can't use generator to power my refrigerator In my local grocery store.
The one that shock me again is that port Harcourt to owerri I used to pay a total fare #1,500 from my residence to mbaitoli in owerri, I now paid a total amount #11,000. This is disheartening.
When I fuel my motorcycle with #1000 just to go and buy something, I can't use that fuel for the next day because I will be having empty tank. My church generator always shuts down during service since we can't afford sufficient fuel.
The one that anger me the most is that, the so called palliative which was meant to cushion the effect of the subsidy was not evenly distributed, what got to my locality was one cup of rice for one person, I learnt that two bags of rice was given to our chief, he reserved one bag for him and his family and then share one bag to the whole community he also had share from this one bag meant for the community for himself again as though he has collected before. Just the same way he reserved one for himself  I know that is how everybody that had come in contact from that top(federal) had been stealing, hiding and reserving for themselves. What a country.

I know where you are coming from as is biting hard on Nigerians big time. Your discussion have mainly 2 believes 1. People who believed is justified and 2. People who believed is not justified, which I belong to. Whichever believe one belongs to I believe they can defend it. Let me talk about my believe.

Let's start by asking ourselves what subsidy is, it is a premium government pays to augment price of of goods and services in other to bring down the price for citizen to access them cheaper, which is part of government responsibility to its citizens.
Inasmuch government has told us fuel subsidy is a scam, the question we need to ask is ''how is it a scam''? because if you already knew the problem to fuel subsidy, which is scam, then why not address it instead of removing the subsidy
Some people will say is not easy to eradicated the corruption going on in the oil sector but the truth of this matter is that government owns all these ministries and parastatals governing these sector so are we saying government can not control what it owns?
My own take is that government is not ready to do what is right for citizens, they chose the convinient way out but when it has to do with them in governance they will defend it with their blood. When a governor in the south west was sworn in and discovered the level of corruption in the civil service he decided on his own to stop it and put lots of controls in place to curb those excesses and today their citizens are enjoying better dividends (most especially roads) that many governors before him failed to do.

We are all shocked and also in dissatisfaction about how the living of every Nigerian has turned out to be today. Removal of fuel subsidy was meant to cushion a lot of things in the economy in order to make the country a better place for us all. But the removal of it has now brought upon us more hardship and cruel life that we can’t afford anymore. I don’t hate the idea of fuel subsidy removal because of the future benefits that awaits us if they use those funds well but what pains the most is that the government couldn’t provide enough relief materials for us to help through this phase, it is very sad, indeed very sad as a Nigerian.

What I gather from this fuel subsidy removal is that the current government has been finding it difficult to fund their flamboyant lifestyle. So, they need some extra source of income and what better way to do it than to stop paying subsidy? They say the country is broke but the government of the day is not cutting costs in any way. It is you and I, the civilians that will pay to fund the government's wastage. This government is not doing any reasonable thing to alleviate the hardship on its people. I fear we may see a breakdown of law and order before the current tenure is over.

I think staying positive in this economy will do us a lot of good, na person wey take care of himself dey stay alive to enjoy opportunities, there are those making it big time despite the harshness of the leadership.

Subsidy or no subsidy, positioning yourself with a positive mindset would always be better than worrying about things you cannot change.

No be lie you still talk even as we expect say government go stop
certain corrupt practices wey make people dey jakpa from the country. The country dey swim inside corruption and that one no dey give guys hope say things go better that na why people no dey want wait to search for opportunities here and me no too dey blame people when dem dey fear scam but if you don see hand wey want genuinely lift you up, make you show interest to learn and follow up because dat fit be the opportunity in disguise.

This subsidy removal of a thing I don't see how it will be beneficial to Nigerians,  since they  implemented this I haven't seen anything getting better . Our president go dey say it is for our good and a better future.  You sure say this people dem no dey deceive us with this subsidy only just for them to still from the countries economy. I no believe if this our politicians wey we get they mean anything good for us at all . They just keep making things difficult for us and pretending they are making things to be better for us .

Since the removal of the fuel subsidy, has it in any way stopped the embezzlement of public funds from the country? What's still happening in the ruling era of Buhari is still happening up till now(being worse instead) despite the change in the government.

I'm not sure if it was this week when I was watching the Channel TV, the ex central bank governor was interview and to make comments on the current state of the monetary policies of the country and he addressed some issues but there was a question he asked. It was concerning the subsidy funds and where they are going since the removal took place. The government was worried that the subsidy has been the problem because of the massive corruption that is going on and as such, they will stop funding fuel and since then fuel price has skyrocketed but the question is, where are those funds going to now and what are they used for since subsidy was put to a stop.

Quote
I think It will be best for Nigerians to have the notion that the current state of our dear country is far from being saved from the bad state of corruption that has eaten deeply into the country.

What we should all know is that, If our country's government promises to implement a law, let ''we'' the masses don't think or assume it is in our favor rather it is theirs to keep sucking the country's economy to be dry.

Before and during the removal of fuel subsidies, there were debates that it was going to better our country. Let the money that is meant for fuel subsidy, be used to boost our country's economy. What are we seeing today? Otherwise. Our country's economy getting worse day by day without a rescue plan on how to save our economy from the free fall it is to the dollar.

Nigeria government will not do anything, know this and have a peace of mind. The government will make promises here and there but guess what, they can't really deliver anything because the government we have is a parallel government. Look at all the arms of the government, is it not the same people that are ruling the country? How do we expect a change when there is no change in the government yet we expect something, the joke is on us.

The country is full of clowns and corrupts ecosystem of government, if we want to see real change then we need to weed out some of those guys.

And about palliative, my brother E even better make they no share na nonsense they call rice and all that stupid things they call food stuff, food wey no reach everybody house, some local government no even see the good because the workers share the stuff and they are now sharing corn about instead of rice wey government bring and no be everybody still get the corn, thank God say them no bring am come my house I for chase them commot, because I no dey wait for government before I chop.

Well sincerely speaking I am tired of country that country this because we have tried to fight for changes yet it didn't come through what do we do as citizen is it not better we follow the trend the way our country needs it?
Okay talking of fuel subsidy removal, how can a president that has never been elected speaking about fuel removal from the first day, does this show normal or he has an interior motive either having something in mind as a target that as he is coming in as a president he would do this or that to enable him benefits. If no, why did He just enter and announced fuel subsidy removal? Well I won't go further because even though there wouldn't be a tangible results to show that this was the main reason why he did that or not.
Country tire person e better make we rest because if we no removed our mind for we country we fit enter one problem or another.

I agree with on this,  and I can say that fuel subsidy removal was good but the approach may have failed to take care of temporarily set backs such as this,  the economy is suffering and the citizens are wallowing in pain because of the hardship that the removal have brought on them,  this is very bad even though the aim and objectives of the subsidy removal was for the betterment of the country economy,  a lit of corruptions have happened in the past and that have really dragged the economy backwards and one of such is fuel subsidy,  cabals and theifs were holding our country hostage and that can not continue to happen and someone need to set the captive free.
I will tell you with all manner of approach that our country is not yet ready to free themselves from being captive and again You and I knows that the country is highly corrupted and look too well again the current president did he win the election?
How many of us voted him and how come he emerges the winner? And how come he said is his turn and he just comfortably seated there thinking Presidential seat is for retirement or entitlement where an old man someone who is meant to have a cool place in the country seat and take care of himself came out to purchase a form and which he did go for campaign and people stupidly followed him why because of money and lack of foresightedness I mean, people with no vision followed him to put a deadman as president well I won't even think of going further because if I should I might have blood pressure.

But remember freedom is not always free,  you have to sacrifice and work for it,  and that is what we are facing presently in Nigeria,  but for sure,  the president approach was bad,  because he took that decision without even taking the time to consider the impact or making plans to provides alternative for the Nigerians citizens,  bit I believe things will not continue this way and by next year,  we may see the impact of all this high cost of things reducing most especially when the refineries starts working,  I am sure even if the government own refineries are not working,  we will have a privately owned refinery that can serve the economy because fuel is the major propeller of the economy.

So let us buckle up for some tough time ahead,  and make chance for new adoption and adjustment,  because I was listening to the president speech last time and he was not ready to go back on his word,  he says and I quotes (just like a woman in labour,  she will go through pains but at the end of the day she will smile when the baby arrived).

President Tinubu also said that Nigerai should be ready to bear the pain with promise that things will get better soon,  this is why I have been saying that you as minister and representatives of the people should go back and educate your people about the program and help them prepare the mind.

With that, I think we already have all the evidence needed to conclude that,  the President has decided and upon well-informed manner.

This fuel subsidy matter still dey bother you? Ever since the day our president talk say he want to remove fuel subsidy, i know this is how we go take buy fuel through out this year, if next year reach we go dey look how they will take do about it, anything wey this government try to do, we no get choice than to follow am, even though we take shout say we no gree over what they are plan to do nothing go change am, to me most of leadership just dey fool us since we get new president for this country i never i hear any good news, all have been hearing everybody dey complain that economy is getting hard, i never see any positive changes from them, about this fuel wey cost so no be everybody take remember when he/she take travel last last, even this christmas no be everybody go travel  back to their village as fuel don cost, no be everybody go fit carry their family say they should travel back to the village.

I dont know waiting this government take carry us sef, this palliative of a thing, una even see rice for una side, as rice don cost now, for my community, we just see one spag for one house and no be say each house received am o, some people sef vex say them no want, as your cheif take carry one bag of rice take share one for una, that's how all this leaders have been doing, if anything enter their hand they will remove their share before given out the remain one, only God knows how many bags of rice was given before two bag go reach una community.

OP, Removal of fuel subsidy was never a bad idea but it was done wrongly, for a government that has blue print, I think the pressing needs of the masses would have been tackle before taking such decision considering it's negative impact on the citizens, The president acted as if the only problem of Nigeria is the subsidy regime and think he got it wrong, up till this very moment the cabals still loot through this process, there are still loopholes which has to be dealt with.

Our leaders are very corrupt, if the government of the day want to come clean then the scrutiny has to start from the executive, I have watched closely the major reason for the repair and maintenance of our refineries is not necessarily for the reduction in the price of our petroleum products, they are doing it to either privatize it and make you believe that the are not in charge of fixing the price since it is now been owned by private firm.
When you make investigation you will understand that there is slight price drop of pms but it will surprise you that petrol station can not effect the new price because no one is ready to give them a thorough check, this is the country that we found ourselves, But I believe the government can fix things if they want to, it is very disappointing that Nigeria is still facing the same problem of corruption from military regime to this democratic rule as the call it, may God help us to overcome this hard time.

Your post really make me laugh and nostalgic. First I can relate to your church gen going off during service, that one don dey be normal occurrence especially for smaller churches wey go want manage because dem no go fit burn 5k fuel for service.

But why dem go give a whole community two bags of rice for fuel subsidy palliative to cushion which side of effect really  Huh And you want blame una chief for safeguarding one for himself and family  Grin Abi you think say una chief dey happy as the palliative no reach anywhere.

No doubt worst times are still ahead and na survival of the fittest. Government no dey always send the masses and that is why they won't send cash palliative through bank account via BVN because they are not sincere in all their dealings which is Nigerian politics for you.

Instead wey government go do better thing for the generality of the people, dem go carry tax come to collect the one wey dey your hand. Subsidy removal itself na scam because you can't remove subsidy and you still dey refine crude oil for outside the country. Dem no want build refinery because dem get refinery outside wey dey give dem personal rebate.

No matter what, we should say no to corruption and embezzlement. These are parts of what that have crippled Nigeria into what is happening presently.
Seriously.. I no understand wetin him talk. Say them suppose no commot subsidy even though him know say na means of embezzlement? Them no suppose stop the fraudulent act? How him thing say Nigeria go come better with that ideology?.. if and only if the governments don remove subsidy, wetin them suppose do na to find alternative for the citizens, make the pressure from the effect of the subsidy removal no come make the people suffer, which na wetin Dem never consider. Sometimes, I dey talk say this ipob people dey right.. because the rulership for Nigeria no even favor anybody sef.
