Well, they're helpful when one chain of the typical payment method has been into network traffic that causes the fees to get up. You're not obliged to do all of those chains and payments, you can set yourself with one network only and settle for it. But as you've dealt with most of them, it's not always your payment method to be followed by the others and if you're going to purchase something, you are the one to adjust and that's why you need to be flexible if you've been purchasing things with crypto.

How can you expect a good service if there’s only a one provider? That’s monopoly and there’s no freedom to that. There’s a lot of blockchain technology yes and you can easily spot who’s the best and who’s the worst, now it’s up to you on what to use for your transactions.
