i agree im having same issue.  basically impossible to do anything here. i made an account on the bitforum you suggest but its dead over there now, maybe some ppl will join up

hummmm... ill you do is post 4 times and you are open to everything. it took me all of tenmunutes to get to jr member and you can go everywhere.

this guy wants to come on here and say we suck when all he wants is to get people to go to his empty nobody cares forum.

just post in your name you say hi, replie to thre or four newbie threads and your in.

this IS the place for anything and everything about bitcoins. if you are to impatient with this ...bitcoins are not right for you ......  go put you money under your bed or build up debt and watch the banks take it all away..ether way i dont care.

The newbie restrictions are indeed archaic, there are better ways to handle spammers and newbies, like reputation systems, Ripple style trust (if your friend spams, you get banned too!), pay-per-account, etc. Theymos already claims he's working on a replacement that will eliminate the need for the newbie jail. In the meantime, try http://reddit.com/r/Bitcoin as that's where actual conversation happens.

I would argue that a lot of /r/bitcoin is a giant circlejerk...  There is good stuff to though.

let's try to build up a good forum at http://BitForum.org

this forum here sucks .. i cant even respond to threads anywhere but here. What is the point?  I read a thread I'm interested in, and I can't respond.  And I have 4hrs+ and more than 5 posts.

LAME!

Just took a look at the forum.

The only threads on the forum.

And this is why we have these restrictions in place Grin

Just make sure you stay logged in. My understanding is that you need 4 hours and 5 posts. The total time you've been logged in should be displayed in the upper left corner of the screen.

Hope that helps.

The entire BTC community lives here. I did my newbie time as fast as possible (it didn't even bother me) - I really don't think it's a big deal and now I've been here for a while I can see why this is done.

It helps keep the paid trolls out.. you know those exist, right?

It's the only explanation for how people could spend so much time trolling.

you only have a handful of posts there and you want everyone to switch over?

Seems like spam, right?

Edit: Seems like that forum has *only* spam http://bitforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=3

The cron job on the server will probably run soon. I suggest logging out and back in again.

Maybe so, but there's no point in complaining if you want to participate in the forums.

(if your friend spams, you get banned too!)

That's actually how the Newgrounds Art portal works; you have to get recruited by another artist, and if you fuck up, the entire chain gets pulled from being able to post onto the portal.  I like it a lot, TBH Grin  It filters out all the newbie artwork and leaves the good stuff.
