I staked my BTC address a few months back and take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy New Year 

My old stake address here.

But since I've been using Segwit address for the last couple of years, I haven't sign it for a long time. But because of the OP's reminder here it is:

The only thing that comes to mind is that when you sign a message you prove that you hold the private key of that address. So, the scammer cannot say that " the staked address belongs to a wallet which doesn't let me to sign a message. I didn't know this when I staked my address", however I am sure Theymos will not accept such a claim.

it is apples and oranges. each time you sign a message from your key, you are revealing your public key. it is subjected to the same issues that discourages address reuse and the same reason why we use P2PKH, P2WPKH (pay to hash of pubkey) instead of P2PK (pay to pubkey itself). we try not to reveal the public key until the last moment.

that is why i never understand why people sign a message when they want to "stake" their address, although i did the same thing myself.

Signing your address and PGP keys should be something that you routinely perform just like changing your password. I know a lot of us do not change our passwords regular but this is something that you can do together. Every time you change your password you should post a topic in archival and include your signed message with your staked address. This confirms that the person holding the address is the one to change the password.

Passwords are recommended to be changed every 6 months at least which means you would have 2 times a year at least where you can practice signing an address and at the same time verifying that the account is safe and the password has not been changed maliciously.

I have noticed on this thread and the staked address thread that members do not include a specific time and date that they signed the address. Including the exact time could bring problems but at least include the date that the message was signed. This is a good practice and should be performed in the universal time format. The only issue with signing your address regularly which could increase the probability of the private key being maliciously captured so it is vital that you follow the best security practices when signing an address. I would recommend booting up a live cd on a clean hard drive and checking that the network you connect to is owned by you and is secure.

Thank you for the reminder. This is my old staking, http://archive.is/AAPUH for reference. That was in 2017. Then I used this address until early 2018 because I bought a new laptop, create new address and totally forgot my old address. So I have to dig up my old laptop and sign a message after more than a year.

Previously I have signed a message with my SegWit bitcoin address. But did not stake the address. Today I inspired by this topic and create a legacy bitcoin wallet via electrum and try to sign a message. You can find my this address Stake your Bitcoin address [Just I have staked there]

This is my staked address on Stake your Bitcoin address here thread, same as CucakRowo, I made this wallet using an online web wallet generator, before I'm using Electrum and know about vanity (custom). In this thread I want to create a new signature to verify me 

Thanks for remembering, these are details that we overlook and you have to know if everything works correctly in case you have to use it for real.

I created a vinatiy address to be staked with my account, even used it many times on the forum but just forgot to stake it on the Stake Your Bitcoin Address thread. Thanks for the reminder @DdmrDdmr.

It was so long ago I have no idea what my staked address is and it's probably part of a seed that's been long since discarded. I'll have to have a new year spruce up.

Wouldn't want to start the new year with my account dropping messages like 'Dear, I liking the bit coins for we make excellent profitings' with no way to stop it.

Interesting enough, I've done that exercise just about one month ago, just I was not thinking that far others could need/use an advice try this themselves.
But you did think on giving the advice, hats off for that!
