Old-style bump is removed, but only not used by default. If you prefer old-style bump, you already can do it by click "Last post" once (ascending) or twice (descending). Example :

Ascending : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=85.0;sort=last_post
Descending : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=85.0;sort=last_post;desc

Side note, I really wonder if anyone has gotten offers for pay to bump?
I haven't. But I also barely get "offers" to buy Merit.

Maybe because they know you'd report them Tongue

There's no point: clicking "bump" has much more bumping power, and there's no public record of those. For example: see Announcements (Altcoins), and guess which thread I just bumped Cheesy

I've also done some small experiments with bumps, by bumping a certain altcoin thread that I used to follow and have some coins left. It dropped about 99% in value from the peak, but shortly after my superbump it went times 4 in value. I didn't sell, and it's down again. I can't know for sure if my bump had anything to do with it, but it could happen on a small coin.

Yes and no. Getting some thread to the 1st page by hitting bump is good. Having long term legendary high merit members with bumping power post in your thread is better.
If my favorite alt coin all of a sudden get to the 1st page it's nice. If you and I start having a discussion in the thread it's better.

Btw, i haven't seen so many complaints regarding the new bumping rules, old style bumping services are still available and getting new clients quite often eben they are not doing anything except to generate fake volume. Strange...

At a guess most people don't know about or understand the way the new bumping works. The people providing the service don't care because they are getting paid to do what they do. Kind of like "SEO" people who tell you they can get you 10 million hits for $1000 and then go and buy 10 million hits of shit traffic for $199 and keep the rest.

@LoyceV I am assuming the answer is no...but could you put together a list of people who should have bumping power who have posted in threads

What is kind of funny is that the OP is Legendary but has 0 merit in the last 120 days, granted there was a long gap in posts. I am guessing if they had contributed anything to the board over the last year then they would have some "bump power" with at least a bit of merit.

Side note, I really wonder if anyone has gotten offers for pay to bump?
I would be surprised if nobody has. But, I also do not know how much bumping services charge vs. how much someone would want to whore out their bump power. [This coming from someone wearing a signature but....]

Kind of funny I think the only alt coin threads I post in I was active in (or at least active in the coin) before the changes.

@LoyceV I am assuming the answer is no...but could you put together a list of people who should have bumping power who have posted in threads that they had not posted in pre the new bump system. I am trying to figure out the programming logic in my head and all I got was a headache.

Stay safe.

Originally I detested the idea. I dislike anything based on the meaningless metric of merit. Even more so in the alt section as some of the best posters have zero or very low levels of earned merit. I mean there are developers there who are way smarter and more helpful and honest than 99% of all the top merit holders here.

However, there is certainly less scammy projects full of blatant paid bumpers near the front now.
It does weight activity quite heavily which is sensible.

A very low weighting of merit with rank and activity being strongly weighted but strongly punished is the only way for the decentralized experiments to be of any real value.

I think leave the new system on the alt board until something better can be developed.

Neah, not dead, just drastically reduced.
They soon be be dead because we have the Spam buster club of iasenko: [CLUB] The SpamBusters! Busting rule-breakers constantly.. When I read that thread, I saw a list of likely spammers in AAX thread, published by LoyceV: Only 19 potential spammers in that thread. If they are detected as bump providers, will they be nuked?

Bump services now is dead.

Neah, not dead, just drastically reduced.

Let's check the first page in tokens:
ANN][AAB] AAX - The World’s First Digital Asset Exchange by LSEG Technology
Yeah AAX is among those that are being bumped by those sock puppet accounts. On top of that, OP of that thread was  also repeatedly breaking the 24 hours bump rule, some of those posts have been reported and deleted.

I wonder how it was before this bumping rule was introduced, because even now when its less effective, there are at least 23 currently active ANN threads using those services. Real number is probably much higher.

Bumping to the first page each day might not be possible anymore but they still try to fake activity and interest, paid services or trying to do so by themselves.
I'm not even sure if they've been drastically reduced or just hidden from the majority of users due to the exposure not being there anymore. There's many services still offering to create a fake buzz for a company, and this will always exist. The new bumping system definitely doesn't effect that side of things. Of course, there's been a visible change in the amount of posts that are getting reported, but every once, and a while someone stumbles upon several pages of this sort of behaviour, and its been suggested in both posts, and reports that these sort of services are actively advertising themselves on Discord, Telegram, and other platforms.

Also, I'll take a look at the ones you've linked in a short while.

Well, I can say that its reduced the amount of headaches the moderators have with handling reports from that section, and I imagine for those that frequent the section. The spam still exists, but is not exposed to the vast majority of users. Less scam projects are being bumped to the top, and although it may have its flaws, and may seem unfair its a vast improvement for the altcoin section. I wouldn't agree with adding it to the rest of the sections, but for the altcoin section specifically its almost perfect.

Not your keys, not your coins!
If anything, this topic is evidence that the new bump system works. It makes sense that you have to post something someone wants to read (and earn Merit for it)  before being able to bump your thread.
Judging by your foul language, your posts don't belong on top.
If a thread is boring, from value of project to quality of recent updating/bumping posts, no one will join to discuss. Then, with the bump system, that thread will be automatically hidden under other better projects. The bump system was created to reduce effects of a single user bump effects.

It is true because after the bump system was born, I barely have seen dead projects appear on the top simply because of bumps from low rank accounts and OPs. Bump services now is dead.

Aww... serial shitcoin dev is sad that he can't spam his way to the top of the altcoin ANN section anymore.  Cry

Hopefully you can get a refund from whatever newbie-churning tard factory you hired to spam your threads for you.

This thread of yours is the first post you made on the forum since November 2019 so I am not sure what exactly you are complaining about.
Threads with genuine discussions belong at the top. Those bringing zero value don't.

He also has a billion alt accounts of his own, one of which is banned.

I guess the last message would be me and this thread will be buried alive and no one will dig this again. I don't even understand why op complain about the bump system since it is important to bump importan threads rather than zero value thread out there that shouldn't be bumped.

"bumps" are wasted.... everything....    only to try and be seen.

No bumping is excellent.   Makes it so that the things that actually need continuance;  get it.... and don't get pushed aside because of people crying for attention.

We understand (or at least I understand) that cryptocurrency is monetary in its prime nature...  but;  that is no excuse to be obtuse to others in your pursuits or journeys.

It has been said by @theymos to reduce spam in alt section
There's long been a problem of spammy bumping being used to keep topics near the top, but lately it's become unbearable.

Looks like you're the owner of the project of Worm, if your topic is not in the top. It's mean people doesn't interested about your project, and it's not @theymos or @mprep fault.

No God or Kings, only BITCOIN.
Oohhh!! Can't get onto the top of the 1st page? I don't know what's the real deal with this thread but seems the user just have some personal issues with mprep and theymos. Huh

Can't understand if this really belong to Meta or in Reputation board. But I'll give you a glimpse of what I understand of the bumping system and  how it was made; it was designed to eliminate those who just want to bump the thread to be on first page with useless posts of bot accounts with nonsense "good project", "nice project" and those who do fake conversation over a specific shit thread and I think it's a success.
