This is maybe a stupid question - but this more recent fork seems like it came up out of nowhere pretty suddenly, and I follow the crypto news decently closely. From a technical standpoint, is it possible to make a fork happen pretty much at any point?

The gold fork was actually trying to beat out the second larger fork. It's been disclosed on various sites and videos confirming why it suddenly appeared. as compared with the other more serious fork afterwards. Frankly we really should be pushing people to stay put for a while because more and more folks are adopting bitcoin these days.

If the rumors of upcoming forks are actually true I'd be surprised. Two months ago was the Bitcoin Cash fork and apparently you can tell most of the people are still in favor of the original Bitcoin.

So I guess any upcoming forks would just go through the same path that BCH went through. COMPLETE FAILURE.
At least bitcoin cash has a community and a lot of people actually support it and believe that it's the solution to all bitcoin trouble.

But that new fork (whatever name they're gonna to it) what new does it have to offer ? Just a plain copy and paste won't go anywhere. Not even 1% close to BCH. So let them test and play but they'll eventually find out that they're wasting everyone's time.
Well Bitcoin Gold fork is a complete joke it will just like other shitcoins make the internet full of trash. the real threat to the bitcoin network is the segwit2x hard fork why because the segwit2x has no protection against replay attacks which BCH setup before the hardfork  and it may cause the holders losing a lot of money. if 2x doesn't want to include replay protection, then the core must do something to protect the users getting losing their money because of replay attack.

i\I am in favor of these fork or upgrade with the bitcoin or any coin as long as the important features are safeguarded and it could improve the system. This is necessary to cope up with the current situation and to adjust with the demands.

Are you talking about the Bitcoin Gold fork? Because I agree that nothing will happens, and the coin will be just another shitcoin.

The real problem is S2X, which has a lot of support from major services and miners. Imagine trying to buy something with BTC by using Bitpay gateway and having to send them your coins from the S2X chain, or your coins from the legacy chain because they have no replay protection... I'm pretty sure lot of people will lose money.

I just think that everything is going to be normal after the fork, a lot of people are going to dump their new forked coins, and the price of it will go down in a few days, just exactly like it happened with bitcoin cash on the first days. But probably there would not be anything new with it, the market will remain volatile as always, so i dont expect much from this fork.
