Still seems a little bizarre that they did this to be honest. It looks more like an ode to Anonymous than to satoshi. Makes you wonder who in the government pushed for this and what made them do it. Did they make a fortune from Bitcoin and used their position to pay homage? Do they know the identity of satoshi? Seems strange to me.
Yep. It seems strange, I'm smiling when I read the topic title. I mean we don't know who Satoshi is, we are not sure whether he is a man or a woman. even we don't know if Satoshi is a single person or a group of people. So, how can someone build his statue?  Cheesy  Instead of Satoshi's statue, it's more like an anonymous Bitcoin user. I'm very sure Satoshi will deny it when he see the statue, it is probably not similar as Satoshi face since it is faceless.

TBH, I also have a big question why Hungary can make Satoshi's statue. Are they really friendly with Satoshi and Bitcoin ecosystem? As far as I know, there is no clear policy related to crypto in Hungary.

OK, there is a statue in honor of Satoshi in Hungary. So what? Does this add something to the status of Satoshi in the crypto community? Nope.
It does not add anything to the status of Satoshi in the BTC community and those who made this statue didn't erect it for that reason. The statue was just erected as a nice or cool gesture towards Satoshi for creating something as great as BTC, i don't see the harm done in this, it is an anonymous statue and nothing more. It is also a good tourist attraction for bitcoiners who vsisit Hungary and people are allowed to visit the site without paying.

The art work is so beautiful it’s so nice seeing people recognize Satoshi despite his anonymity, sometimes I wonder why did Satoshi choose to stay anonymous but with such popularity and recognition by everyone it’s best. I’m just seeing this probably I hardly discover more about Satoshi details since it’s private, the event and statue can be considered as tourism where people pay money just to view an event besides I’m not surprised since bitcoin is so popular and known by almost everyone.

This is beautiful but I am just surprised that the Government allowed this to happen and now years has passed. Considering it is also located at a park, I would assume that Hungarian government has no problem or whatsoever with bitcoin or crypto. I searched and there are quite many bitcoin ATMs around the country however until now there is still no actual law regulating the use of crypto. Just seems like a friendly country for crypto but not fully supportive.
You’re right, not every country will accept this seeing bitcoin is valuable and they’re only portraying what they love. If the government should stop this I believe it’s another form of oppression where they see bitcoin as a threat, my country is not a crypto friendly place but crypto events still stand involving fun activities.

Believe me, someone can't love Satoshi less, if they have found out what Satoshi has really done for all humanity to be the one in control of their finances.

I believe, there's more to this, not for the love and memory of Satoshi, but for how Satoshi has brought wealth to human race. If we all can recall, 2021 was crypto bull run, which gave rise to many people becoming millionaires in crypto space, which I am not mistaken, the two fellas who have statue built in memory of Satoshi were among the millions of people, Bitcoin investment made millionaires.

To mark and remember what Satoshi has done for the human race, Gergely Réka and Tamás Gilly took upon themselves to show respect and love in having a statue of the unknown individual ''satoshi'' who made that happen, so that the whole world would know of him  because he has done what many world leaders can't do for their citizenry, to give them financial breakthrough

Based on my interest in Bitcoin, I always believe within myself that the anonymity of Satoshi means how important we handle the security of our asset and also the need not to trust our asset with anybody.

Certainly, love and admiration for Satoshi Nakamoto is obvious and undeniable, especially for those whose financial lives have been positively transformed due to the great invention of this century. I am also greater admirer of Satoshi as Bitcoin investment has brought a pleasant change in my life.

Yes. Love and admiration for Satoshi can be interpreted in various forms including creating anonymous statues because they realized that with Bitcoin they could use their money to not lose its value. Of course by using their money to hold Bitcoin.
Easy and fast transactions without involving third parties, profits can be obtained because the price increases.
Storage is not difficult and can be used at any time without requiring administrative completeness like in a bank.
Until now, the world has recognized the greatness of Bitcoin, not just a few people.

Hungary has Satoshi's statue.
El Salvador allow Bitcoin as legal tender.
Waiting for other country to create their own Bitcoin history.

It was just a bunch of crypto enthusiasts, not Hungary as a nation. Grin
I'm not sure, even it was created by crypto enthusiasts, I do believe they need to grant permission from the authority since you can't build something illegally. This statue is went viral too, if Hungary's government didn't like it, they must have destroy it.

By the way, you thread title seems a little bit clickbaity and misleading, as if the government of Hungary decide to build a statue of Satoshi.
It was just a bunch of crypto enthusiasts, not Hungary as a nation. Grin Maybe more statues of early Bitcoin developers should be built in different places around the world. Maybe some Ethereum supporters should build a statue of Vitalik Buterin. Grin Every altcoin creator/developer deserves a statue as well(except the shitcoin creators). Grin

I don't see how the erection of this statue had anything to do with anyone in government, the people behind the sculture are known and the names of the four of them is on the website. They also do not know the identity of Satoshi, isn't that why they made an anonymous statue.
I guess Satoshi wouldn't have approved of it. But I guess that's just a simple gesture of gratitude to the name and the person behind Bitcoin.
Maybe or maybe not. I agree with you about it being a simple gesture, nobody knows the identity of Satoshi, that is why this is also an anonymous statue, so no harm done and that's why i like what they erected.

Generally, the statue portrays internet anonymity or security, for example, try to look up images on cyber security, hacking, cryptography it all looks like the sculpture. The hoody on it is also seen on images associated to being anonymous on the internet, even some vpn use this type of image. Additionally, the face can be considered a mask.

Bitcoin stands for decentralization, freedom and privacy. The artwork depicts the nature of Bitcoin. Satoshi made Bitcoin more symbolic or prestigious by deciding to be anonymous. I think the sculptors did a very good job by making the statue faceless, wearing a hood and in bronze. Bronze is not as attractive as gold and silver which also signifies privacy. In my religion, bronze stands for strength, durability, and judgment. Bitcoin is strong since it has overcome many attacks, it will last for a long time, and it is an option to fiat there by reducing the influence of banks.

It was an ode to an anonymous, not to Anonymous that has grown to be questionable over the years. It's weird, of course. I guess Satoshi wouldn't have approved of it. But I guess that's just a simple gesture of gratitude to the name and the person behind Bitcoin.

Of course, it wasn't anybody from the government who pushed for it. It was the initiative of Bitcoin supporters including one who has a platform that requires strict KYC. LOL!

I do believe he wouldn't approve it, but, it's a fine gesture from the community nevertheless, as you said.
Gratitude is very essential to those with knowledge and desire to help/create something for others. Event if they don't appreciate it (not talking about BTC, but overall).

It was at exactly 16th of September 2021 that a group of cryptocurrency enthusiast unveiled the first ever statue of the bitcoin founder, Satoshi Nakamoto. The memory resurfaced online this month as a remembrance of an event that called the attention of the world to see the faceless sculpture of a great inventor, Satoshi. I looked up their site to find out why they built a statue of a person they do not know his face, identity, gender, etc.

The answer remains for the love and memory of Satoshi, it doesn't matter about any concrete information on Satoshi, the faceless Statue was only erected to remind people that they play as more role in cryptocurrency like Satoshi did. That's why the face was made transparent. Additionally, it was made of Bronze, and it's the work of two Hungarian sculptures, Gergely Réka and Tamás Gilly.

It's located in the heart of Europe - Budapest at Graphisoft Park - open 24/7 for visitors.

Honoring Satoshi Nakamoto with a statue is truly a creative and heartfelt gesture. It’s a powerful symbol of the revolutionary ideas Nakamoto introduced, and it shows how deeply people in the crypto community appreciate his contributions. The faceless statue represents the decentralized nature of Bitcoin and highlights how its value goes beyond a single individual, emphasizing the impact of the collective effort.

That said, while it's a fitting tribute, we need to be cautious about turning this into a form of hero worship. The core philosophy of Bitcoin is to avoid centralized authority and personality cults, focusing on the technology and the community. Idolizing one figure, even symbolically, might detract from the decentralized ethos Nakamoto himself stood for.

Still, it’s a great way to remind people that everyone can contribute to something as transformative as Bitcoin!

Thank you for this interesting information, in fact this is the first time I hear about erecting a memorial statue to commemorate Satoshi, the anonymous founder of Bitcoin, this is a great initiative from those who made the statue to commemorate the most important man in modern times.

I am surprised that the government of a country that does not officially adopt Bitcoin allows erecting a statue of Satoshi in a public place, maybe this is due to freedom in the country or maybe for tourism reasons and attracting visitors I do not know but in any case this is a very great initiative and they deserve thanks for it.

That is the advantage of bitcoin because it is not attached to the individual creator and even people never know who he is and how life can affect him after bitcoin becomes more developed as it is now. People see something different in bitcoin and people see that there are many advantages that can be born so that the statue becomes a symbol as something that needs to be immortalized but it is only a illusion and only part of the admiration that people show.

Bitcoin has given birth to the freedom that is expected especially to achieve a better financial stage. The great work created by Satoshi is a spectacular invention and will probably be the best that has ever existed before in investment instruments.

I like this idea. Even though we have no personal information of Satoshi, I think it is a good symbolism. His privacy is protected, he is anonymous the same way we are when we use bitcoin. This is why I do not think that we desperately need to know or see who Satoshi Nakamoto is. We use bitcoin with our privacy protected and safe so we should do the same for the creator of Bitcoin.

For sure, the artist of this have done his homework as he needed to understand how he will make a statue out of thin air and had no idea how to portray an anonymous person. Also, the initiator of the project, Andras Gyorfi, a Bitcoin journalist- believes on this technology. Hence, his initiatives was to complete this project as he collected donations among bitcoin enthusiasts

I don't remember this event, or maybe i haven't actually seen it before; however i think it is a cool thing to do, it may not mean much in the grand scheme of this, but it is evidence that people appreciate what Satoshi was able to do for all of us by creating this decentralized currency called BTC.

The statue can also be a tourist attraction for bitcoiners, i mean bitcoiners who came to Hungary for vacation or for some other business may consider visiting this site.
