Interesting question: should people be tolerant to trolls and scammers to ensure free speech and other natural rights?
Isn't is suppose to be limited to yelling fire in a crowded theater? This is a bitcoin forum, and it should be open to opinions but should require decency and behavior standards as do most IRC chat rooms. Successful open source projects keep a standard of professionalism in their community, and bitcoin should be doing this only more so if we want to be acknowledged by the financial business sector.
Its simply a matter of signal to noise ratio to keep this place useful. Or just keep this forum as is, and creating some type of solution for professionals and business people to come together to communicate.
Unfortunately for your logic, half the theater is on fire but everyone is looking away and saying "Fire? What fire? It's just a little toasty in here. Im actually finding http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/ pretty useful right now. The questions are insightful, and the system only grants more access to contributors as they prove themselves valuable to the community. Very cool.

The time to leave this forum was yesterday. This is unfortunate, but we will survive.
I still check out "Show unread posts since last visit." and only go through the titles, looking for some important bitcoin announcements. It doesn't take that much time, compared to reading through all the forum vandalism.

I think bitcointalk.org deserves to live, it is significant part of bitcoin community. To some extent it is a model of our society and if we want to keep it free, we need to adapt somehow. If there is a need to improve signal to noise ratio, someone can establish subforum with a stricter policies for those who likes the idea of their enforcement

Just wanted to get some other opinions here. Seems like this forum has been overrun by a few users who post continuously in a need to astroturf. Its also turned into a ground where it is free for hate speech and spreading false rumors. Worse of all, it seems to have been effective and the false information is spreading to other websites. So, has this forum outlived its value, and is it time for the honest bitcoin community to take up new grounds?

I think Ill just not post it because I dont want to feed the trolls and link to their information more. Ill send you the link directly if you want. Im just curious if there are any admins for the forum and if there are any standards for allowing people to post. There has been some blatant hate speech, and im surprised those users are allowed to keep accounts here.
The administration of this forum is very pro-free-speach.
They don't even ban scammers because you never know if the scammers want to pay back to whom they scammed.
