Based on my previous experienced, the holding of tokens shouldn't if the project listed their tokens on an exchange. Some of my tokens are worthless because of my long-term holding of tokens in my wallet as a result of hoping for a bigger price in the future. Sometimes last two years, I bought some good tokens from a reliable project and hold, during their initial list I never wanted to sell because I saw prospect with the project but later realized that I was played while holding. From this experience, I don't invest in new projects and hold their token, rather await dump when they list their token in exchange.
Long term hold and short term hold are two different strategy but you can always change your strategy according to the situation.
A short term holder would redeem his profit on a small margin while a long term holder would not care for the market fluctuation but would bet on the future of the coin. It also depends on how easy you feel to trade your coin and how much time you can spare to make your orders.

I don't agree. Unless you are buying a pump and dump project with zero value.
Buy coins which may be worth siomething in the future because they have a good team and a real use case. Most of the projects doesn't even propose something like that... a good project (such as bitcoin) can be worth a lot in long term
It should be the timing to invest, hodl and sell. We must try to make sure if we have been getting a nice profit and that's the time for us to sell our coin/token. In another way, if we are seeing the market gets rekt and that's the best time to invest in again.
