I don't think it's about getting drunk, the most common thing that makes a gambler lose himself is that he wants a big win and or chasing a loss, some of my friends, they have a budget for their gambling well, but in practice they mentally fall apart as if they didn't do the preparation before gambling, thus destroying the finances that have been arranged by him.

I agree with your point but with some sentiments and this bothers on the concern that, gambling firstly has to do with gun and it's most probably luck dependent a whole lot of time, so setting dreams and aspirations upon something that is luck dependent and and almost not realistic can be very risky and may turn out in disappointment.

Since gambling is known to be luck dependent, it will be fair you keep an open mind to your picks and expectations and if you are lucky enough it turns out in your favour then you can use the proceeds wisely to fulfill these dreams you had before you gambled, but depending on gambling for the fulfilment of these dreams will definitely hurt especially if it turns out you don't get lucky at the casino, and some of these dreams, such as the expensive health care are time bound thereby increasing the pressure that comes with achieving them.

I don't think it's playing without knowing the reasons but rather playing without knowing the potential and chances of unexpected risks, so that makes them continue to play without applying the limits that should be applied. But I will not agree with you that gamblers should stop after a loss, why should that happen? What if they gamble more and gain more? Since no one knows what will happen next, such advice is ill-conceived as far as I am concerned. That is why I don't like to read such advice from people too as it tends to hold the hands of gamers back. I rather like gamblers to know what they are gambling for (purpose), have their plans before placing any bet and also have set budgets and limits to know how they want to play and how much they are willing to play per bet.

The issue here is the lack of that preparation, and if that changes, gamblers will stop complaining about overbetting but fight for the determined "will" to keep to the promise of their plans. They will now be bothered only about their winnings and losses and get to stop at the right time before it becomes an issue for them.
