if you want to keep a coin/token for long term you don't wanna just keep it and let it sleep. you would want it to also earn while you are keeping it or let it grow at the same time. to make it possible you need it to be in the personal wallet where you have the private key and you can access it yourself alone. and also you want cheap coins so that you have the maximum amount of them in your wallet. i personally like to keep ADA and stake on the wallet so that it grows as well. there are some other tokens but some may not agree to be about it such as TRON.

i know bitcoin expensive but you can start with technique "Dollar Cost Averaging"
I do not think bitcoin is expensive if 1 satoshi can worth a value, what investors should mainly focus on is its deflationary aspect and its long term increasing marketcap which will still skyrocket its price as it is still at its early age (meaning? More people and institutions will still buy it). So, the advice to go for bitcoin is a great idea.

If the transaction fee rate in Bitcoin will not decrease over time just like what we are experiencing right. I will believe on your quoted word above on how expensive Bitcoin is. On electrum wallet. It cost me 0.0015BTC plus minus just to send some of my money. The mempool problem is really a huge downside of Bitcoin. Imagine owning 0.005BTC below then the fee is almost half it while the price in fiat skyrocket.   Grin

Go straight and invest in Bitcoin or Ethereum if you want a good coins that could sustain for a long term. Don't ask the very obvious but if you are really unknowledgeable about it you are free to do some research. Well, research is required especially if you plan to invest on something and you really have to know everything about it.

Then start to diversify your investment into more altcoins that has potential to even grow in the future. It's easy to spot once you look at the CMC find the top 10 altcoins although top 10 may not be enough so I would suggest a top 100 instead since most of them are on the list that I've once used and invested.

My ask is what will be your advices about keeping a coin long term ? Which coin is worth for it?
Only currencies that have an active team, continuous development, and an idea to solve an existing problem in the blockchain or the world in general.
Most altcoins fail this test, and even good currencies will fail to maintain the price, so if your goal is just price, buy bitcoin.
Some altcoins may be a suitable option for a year or several years.

The OP should start understanding the bitcoin market first. Because going straight to other alts will be a very challenging part to understand all these projects. And if he has already the grasp of what's going on with bitcoin market, he can check top alts first, at least more than likely, their market is already established as well as its use case. But it is hard to suggest about which coin to hold long term as it depends on the user how "long term" is he talking about, his goals about his profits and other factors. In time, he will understand more about the existence of these coins and which ones are worth to keep.

Hello community here,

I am newbie here and happy to join here.

My ask is what will be your advices about keeping a coin long term ? Which coin is worth for it?

any ideas will be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum mate. Keeping a coin for a long term would only require you to have understanding with fundamentals of a certain coin, their roadmap, then most importantly your patience. Our advices would really be risky if you followed it without searching it by yourself. Always know what's the project use-case and its future development in their roadmap plus what do you think is the projects unique and distinct feature against other running projects. Consider those before investing then keep in mind that the market is volatile so you might as well use the strat Buy and Forget especially if you are aiming for the long-term investment.

OP since you pretty much got most of the advice.
I would like to add up that in case you're wondering where most of people's knowledge on the coins come from.
CoinMarketCap would be the best start to start your research in every coin, assuming you're looking for other coins as well.
Just don't forget Bitcoin of course. Smiley
Good luck in your journey, OP.

Glad you have joined part of this forum. Surely you will find the right answers about research where.

Suggestions for you to store long-term coins are BTC, ETH and BNB which are coins which I think are better than others but remember this is only a suggestion from me but you can do your research to find the right source where to buy coins in the long term.

Remember to have been in the forum for sure you will find a good thing where you will understand about real investing.

It totally depends on what coin you are holding. Buying Bitcoin at 60k and waiting for long term is not a good idea in my view. You have to buy a coin at dip for long term hodling. Also be aware of shit coins that are available at cheap rates. At that time the most perspective looks to be ETH because of upcoming fork to ETH 2.0

Lately, I have some list of top coins that haven't hit ATH perfectly yet. My choice is the BNB, LTC and BTT coins have the opportunity to reach new ATH, I am not not suggesting BTC and ETH but the current price is still too high and maybe you can buy it if the price is corrected below.

That's an everlasting debate. A few years ago $20,000 was "too high" to buy yet here we are wishing we could get in at that point.
This is why even I have stopped using such statements. No price can be too high or too low since it's just a speculation and it keeps changing.

The best thing for you would be to do some research on the top 10 or 15 coins and then list out which coins you like.
I would say pick the best two apart from BTC and ETH and then diversify your investment into the 4 coins.

Two questions:

> My ask is what will be your advices about keeping a coin long term ?

Unless you're talking about > 0.1 BTC, I would advice _against_ cold storage.  You can easily screw it up and end up losing a lot of money in fees, if not the whole thing.  For me, I have it split between a local wallet running plain basic bitcoin-core node (which takes a lot of disk space to run, mind you), and then between Coinbase and Gemini.  Keep in mind, if you store it locally, keep a physical backup of the private key somewhere just in case.

> Which coin is worth for it?

As has been mentioned, this is not a topic for alt-coin discussion.  BTC is your best bet, IMO, but not the only one.

As a newbie, the best coin for you in the long term is no other than bitcoin.

And keeping it is simple, you make an electrum wallet and make sure that you download to the official website because there are fake ones that are existing.

You send the bitcoin you bought there and after that, you do nothing, that's holding.

This is not a discussion board for altcoins, so I won't mention any names, but I will say that you should never choose altcoin just because it is highly positioned on sites like CMC, because it only reflects the current situation - but in the long run most of these projects will disappear. Today, practically everyone can make their own coin, beautifully pack a story about that coin and, with a successful promotion, create wealth out of nothing.

What I would especially like to point out is that everyone should look at the total max supply of a coin - all those who measure it in billions will never have a chance to be worth nearly as much as Bitcoin, with most having no purpose at all. In short, don't waste money on nice promises.

I suggest you take a look at the top 10 coins right now and if you pick one or more from that list to hold you most likely won’t go wrong.
Bitcoin is still the leader and usually when bitcoin grows other coins rise as well, and when bitcoin falls then other altcoins also fall.
Don't forget that every investment is a risk and never invest money that you can't afford to lose.

This is mainly a bitcoin forum, so the answer would be pretty obvious.
Just a correction, advice about investing in bitcoin is not about this forum being a bitcoin forum, it is just about bitcoin being an asset, that if we invest today, we will gain after a while.

In general though with investing in general, do your own research and make your own conclusions on which project/business is a good long-term investment. If you're not willing to do research and think on your own, then investing is not for you.
