Is locking something different?
I assume this happened:
I will request that theymos ban the "Lauda" account (u=101872)
Done. Lauda is banned in the same way as satoshi, such that it isn't possible to even log into the account anymore.
It ensures nobody can ever abuse the account, so there's no need to spoil o_e_l_e_o's legacy with red warning tags.

Ok comparing with other cases, I'm pretty sure now that it was an admin who locked o_e_l_e_o's account.

IStaff members or global moderators don't know that who locked the account? If that's true then only admins have information about the accounts that they lock, I mean they might be able to see that which admin locked an account. If I'm not wrong then Theymos, and Cyrus both can see that who locked the account or only one of them can see it who locked that account?

I find your lack of faith in Bitcoin disturbing.

Password reset via secret question appears in BPIP as for this user and the account appears banned. This is not the case for o_e_l_e_o.
It doesn't really matter who locked/banned the account, the result is the same.

Farewell, Leo. You will be missed!
BPIP must monitor the modlog, but as no moderator has acted on o_e_l_e_o's account, lock does not appear and BPIP has not seen it.
I am still a bit confused. Someone did act and took action against the account as it's currently banned. That ban or account lock was issues by someone, either theymos or someone with similar permissions. And the action is permanent. Well, nothing is exactly permanent because even a permanent ban can be revoked. Is the account now in a status similar to when someone tries to restart the password via email and it causes the Bitcointalk account to become locked?

We are all going to miss Leo, he made his little time worthwhile and has given his immense contributions on privacy to the community at large, we cant afford to see people like him being rendered helpless with health challenges, i hope nature give his the very good comfort he deserves and to eat the benefits of all his goods works here and on earth, life is sometimes cruel on us but we cant just question why, his maximum aim was achieved here on bitcointalk and we are all going to miss him.

You are a staff member, can you comment on what is the difference between the type of ban on o_e_l_e_o's account and someone that gets banned for any rule infringements, like plagiarism? I mean, why doesn't it show as banned on BPIP's website but only if you have the BPIP extension installed?

Visually, if a user is temporarily banned or permanently banned or nuked or if that user has locked his account, I will see the same thing : User is currently banned.
BPIP must monitor the modlog, but as no moderator has acted on o_e_l_e_o's account, lock does not appear and BPIP has not seen it. BPIP will need to take manual action to correct the status of o_e_l_e_o's account on BPIP (but that's not something they seem to do).

There is also something that I noticed in o_e_l_e_o's thread.
o_e_l_e_o said: "In a week or so, once this thread has run its course, I'll ask theymos to lock this account."
Is locking something different? Perhaps something that acts like a ban, but not in the sense of "I ban you for insulting". I hope it makes sense.

edit: according to Halab, it looks like the account is locked, not banned.

o_e_l_e_o was last active on 22 January. In his farewell thread, he mentioned that the account would soon be banned after he is done with his final goodbyes. BPIP doesn't show such accounts (locked) as banned. That's also the case with Lauda and satoshi. I just checked the modlog and there is no information there either. Anyone knows if the account has been locked/banned already?
Although, I don't really know either that account of o_e_l_e_o is banned or locked but I'm sure that no one will be able to use that account from now on because he left the forum himself and shared something that we all understand is a final goodbye to the family.

When Lauda left the forum no one yet used that account after that and similarly the o_e_l_e_o's account won't be used by anyone because he willingly left the forum for a genuine reason and that's why he left his farewall message for us.

I think an admin or a global moderator might be able to shade some light that what happens with such accounts when owners willingly share farewell messages and say that they won't be using the forum anymore.

@PrivacyG, why can you not post this on Leo's farewell thread instead? Leo posted that topic just 8 days ago. For you to open a new thread about it in just a short time is not better at all. If t is now a year or some years, we can say it is good, but in this short time as you have just known about Leo farewell thread, just make use of the Leo's thread to post what you want to post.
Ah... From the write up of the Op, you can see the article needs a separate thread because if he wrote it in the o_e_l_e_o's Farewell thread, many people will not see it and read. So it is better for him to create a separate thread for it and if you really understand this thread, you will notice that it is not a sympathy thread but it is an empathy thread. He wrote the thing and fell the departure of Leo and still having the imagination that Leo will come back again when everything is alright for him in healthwise. But one part will be decided by Leo, either to come back or to leave the forum after if he has recovered from the health challenge. But the re-announcement of o_e_l_e_o's return bro the forum will be joyous celebration events in the forum. Leo was not a conservativist but he was a progressivist from the leftist school of thought who has everyone in the forum to be protected from centralized mindset scholars. He believed in the cryptocurrency decentralism.

Ahhh....I say let him have the thread.  He was obviously touched by o_e_l_e_o's presence and was struck by his absence such that he wanted to make his own thread in which he laid out his feelings for Leo.  This one will probably drop off the radar before the first one does, so.

Dr. Leo did make quite the impression on a lot of folks here, including myself and I'm also sad to see him go--and for the reason that he's going.  I don't know all the details, but his absence will be felt by everyone who respected his knowledge, level-headedness, and willingness to help others.  I'm still hoping for a miracle.
Exactly, motional feelings were displayed here in the op and they are users that are still in the forum that people still cherish and the same magnitude of empathy will still happen to them when they give their official declaration of leaving the community. Leo had impacted knowledge and given the awareness campaign on privacy to the core before leaving the forum so the absence of Leo is something difficult for some people to still believe because of the straight forward answers given to questions concerning bitcoin and wallet analysis.

I do not know about you, but I'd think Leo would have expected us to cherish those memories we have of him on the forum in a good way instead of being nostalgic and feeling sad. It's true his contributions to this place greatly impacted others, but let's not feel like so sad that we forget to appreciate his works here. No offense to the Op, but since a thread has been created relating to him, I felt maybe this could have like been created to be like a museum of sorts, detailing his works and what he helped each of us here understand about Bitcoin and privacy, instead of talking of we won't see him again.
Death of a loved one is one news that would never sit well in the minds of people no matter how painless it is on the individual but I know that O_e_l_e_o has found peace in that knowledge and is doing ho best to live a happy and fulfilled life, no matter how short it is right now, so I feel we should try and be that way too; happy.

Farewell LEO o_e_l_e_o
Activities in forums that are full of disguises do not allow each other to know each other physically, but can get to know each other through something unique, namely thoughts, ideas expressed through posts.

Who Leo is, I don't know him like I know a lecturer who teaches in class or who invites me to study outside the classroom while enjoying nature.
Leo is an anonymous figure who presents a narrative that is full of knowledge.
I hate people who can't reconcile Leo's criticism with the truth behind his criticism.

You've only been here a few months. How can you say everything about him as if you've known him for a very long time. Yes. I'm a newcomer who's not even a year old, but I just go around and open every board and child board to look for something that I think can increase motivation. One of them I found on an account with the username o_e_l_e_o.
Thank you for everything.

For all the people I respect who read this, I will write here what I felt after knowing Leo made a farewell greeting.

I am the person who regrets the most that I didn't have time to write a single word on the topic and didn't have time to write a line on another topic about Leo's farewell which has been locked.
If I knew where he was now, I would meet him and accompany him until he changed his mind.
I felt like I had lost a genius figure who I didn't really know but I knew because of his knowledge.

I interacted several times in discussions with o_e_l_e_o, especially regarding technical discussions about bitcoin and privacy. I asked and responded to him on several posts, he gave me really easy to understand and reasonable answers. His understanding of privacy and ability to interact are very reliable, he is one of the masters who will be remembered by the bitcointalk community, especially for those who truly care about others.

Thank you o_e_l_e_o, you will be remembered forever and for your contribution to the forum you truly deserve a tribute.

Leo was the man of the privacy on this forum and I have learnt some amazing things from that guy. Although, I had very small interaction with him but I can't forget those moments.

I would also say that thank you Leo for opening my eyes regarding privacy and thanks to all those people who respect and support privacy plus open-source software.

It's sometimes hard to forget some people and Leo is someone who we won't forget at least in our lifetime. I wish him best of luck and wish that he may get healthy and have happy moments with his loved ones. Best wishes for him!

I just came across Leo’s thread and am just in a way I can’t explain. I didn’t know Leo, but I know our paths crossed a multitude of times. Largely just remembering him by his unique user name and someone who’d randomly show up on threads I was involved with and always adding a positive contribution in some shape or form.

Incredibly saddened. I sent Leo a PM to thank him and bid well wishes, I just feel terrible having just now seen the thread and not being able to comment since it’s now locked. He may never see my PM or comment but I know he understands how much he meant to many here.

Farewell Leo, whatever’s after this I hope our paths cross again one day.

On o_e_l_e_o's farewell thread, I only saw sadness, tears, lost hope written all over it and coming here to see such is like there's no hope any more, I think words of encouragement, words of hope should be sent to him that's if anyone can contact him.
Who knows things can turn around for good for him, it is not over until it is so let's try to give him strength too in this hard time. I know is never easy with him and for Bitcointalk community but we have to do what we have to do which is to stay positive and reach out to him via prayers.
