how can someone steal that much and not feel remorse?
Too bad to see this happening. I just have 2 doubts:
- Why didn't he keep such a big amount of BTC in cold wallet?
- Why was he using Tor? Is blockchain.info banned in China?

can't believe that owner of 775 btc who is too lazy to protect his/her btc ....should more careful it's too shocking news he lost almost 236740$ it can change one's whole life....
Should have stored it offline, this is the problem, everyone always thinks it won't happen to them if they store it online, I'd never store that amount of BTC anywhere other than a disconnected laptop. Oh and if you're going to transfer that amount of money move it in small increments so you don't attract attention >_<

Big amount... hmm.. is this indeed legit? It sounds to me as too much money in one basket...
The questions that come into my mind are:
- Why does he keep such big amount all in one wallet? I see no good reason for that, really, unless it's a tiny fraction of the money you have (which I quite doubt).
- He knew that's quite some value there. Then why not using the official - much more secure - wallet?
Obviously I don't need answers. But as you said.. maybe others read and learn...

I've never really trusted tor as I don't know if I'm running it properly as I'm not a computer expert, but I did use it for a bit a while back and somehow my email address got hacked after I'd logged in via there. Not sure if it's just a coincidence but it was never hacked before or since but only after logging in through tor. Kinda spooked me away from it.
tor and javascript are known to not go well together for securityprivacy reasons. it's recommended to have javascript disabled when using tor.
Fixed that for you. The issue is that when JS is enabled it's easier for you to inadvertently leak your IP address (and other stuff) but that has nothing to do with the security of the JS you're running. In the case of bc.info the JS code is secured with SSL so you as a user know that no one has tampered with it (unless bc.info is broken into, of course, but here we're talking about tor).
I for one boot a Tails instance to reduce the privacy issues when using bc.info.

the blockchain.info wallet is a html5/javascript local client.
tor and javascript are known to not go well together for security reasons. it's recommended to have javascript disabled when using tor.

This kind of news is not very good for the reputation of the Bitcoin. Some of the new users might take it in the bad way

If you're not safe to handle bitcoins then you're not safe enough to use online banking. If you've got a keylogger then it's going to capture everything.
There are tons of people out there too scared to use online banking too, but at least in those cases there is some trail of your money and protections afforded by your bank.

A while ago, a Chinese user "honesepotato" complained to 8btc.com that he lost 633 btc when he was using tor+blockchain wallet.
As per his description, one of his friend was trying to create a new address for receiving funds on blockchain wallet and he has been hoarding coins for quite a while. Then there was an error message pop up, he closed it and refreshed the wallet page. Then he found the coins gone.
Receiving address: 1AaAYSunThcnsMdvgRqfCMKF68KacjM98f
There might be other victims if you checked the address.
The source claimed that his friend had been using the same machine to receive coins the night before and everything goes smooth.
