I read the article (even though I don't usually do), and I saw this part of it.
Quote
Symptoms of this addiction, according to Family Addiction Specialist, include constantly checking the prices online — particularly in the middle of the night.
When I saw that part, I was like "How lucky I am that I'm still not experiencing this kind of addiction still."

TBH, this is the kind of addiction that I see that has some benefits or at least there are some good things that you can get by getting addicted into it (maybe). I mean for short term traders, futures traders and those scalpers, they look at the charts constantly because a small move of the market will be huge for them especially for futures traders because a move = either profit or loss to them, but the difference is that, these traders are only trading for a few hours only. An addicted into trading is they are constantly looking at the chart and when I say constantly, maybe around once or twice every hour or 30 mins maybe.

There is a famous quote which is "Too much of anything is bad" so too much looking at the charts can really lead you to addiction. I'm a bit curious on why investors are constantly looking at the market?

Can someone be addicted to trading? This is very surprising to me and I am still still skeptical about this...

You can be dependent not only on trade, there is such a term as a workaholic - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Workaholic - "is a person who works compulsively. A workaholic experiences an inability to limit the amount of time they spend on work despite negative consequences such as damage to their relationships or health".
There are traders who spend a lot of time monitoring the market and the result is not good for them physically and emotionally, so technically there are some who got addicted in trading in the wrong way even if you are making profit. It’s good to have a rehabilitation facility that can help you how to balanced your life since being addicted to trading can also trigger anxiety and depression. I’m into trading but I still know how to balance my lifestyle and still able to spend time outside trading.

But being a workaholic means addiction. like you are addicted to your job? I'm not sure on this, but the only thing that comes to mind is that you can't control yourself when you are addicted and you want to do it anyway, no matter what circumstances you have. I've experienced checking and sitting in my chair watching the charts all day, but I am not impulsive to do it daily because I need rest and I am not doing it on a daily basis. I think you can call it addiction to trading if he is doing it every day, even if he loses, and looks forward to doing it every day and can't control themselves.

If you see yourself suffering from trading addiction, then stop being greedy and never chase your previous losses from trading so you won’t have to trade more than you can afford to lose. And when it comes to managing your finances, it’s not bad to trust a personal friend who knows how to trade more than you, but never entrust him all your money but only for those amount intended for trading. That way, you will not go deeper on your trading addiction. However, if you think that your addiction is already killing you, then seek for professional help and maybe consider going into rehabilitation center if that’s the only way to treat your addiction.
By the way, if you have a friend who has good trading results and doesn't mind showing you his trades, then that might be acceptable.

But this can be used as an example of a good trader who makes money from it. And his deals should be taken as good tips, but the final decision should still be made by yourself, since this is your money and only you are responsible for its safety.

Well, you may not be able to react as quickly as he will, if you need to quickly buy or quickly sell some coins. Therefore, I would always rely only on myself, even if I had a friend who is very good at trading.

Many people are wasting money on trading as we speak, while traditional, futures and options trading are the aspects that this affects most.

This has been the normal situation even before the introduction of Bitcoin and cryptocurency market. Traders are always losing money more than they're making it but that didn't discourage more and more people from wanting to participate in it because of the instances were you can make life changing profits. Trading isn't for the weak as if you haven't undergone the education, I won't advise anybody to begin trading as you can be easily caught in the wrong side (losses and addiction).

You become more addicted when you're losing more than when you're winning so one of the ways to control your addiction is by perfecting the skills of trading so when you become a professional you can then trade professionally and make your money, exit the market on time and wait on another opportunity to profits.

You will only get into trading addiction if you allow yourself to fall on it by trading even if you think the market is not in a good condition, and you trade even without preparation so you will end up trading at the losing end. Addiction is curable especially if you find solutions for it and you follow those to solve your problem, but in case of trading, if you set high income that you think you can actually reach from trading, having a wrong mindset will eventually lead you into addiction. But not sure if this rehabilitation center will still be needed for some addicted traders.
Some people can think of the right way to end addiction, but some people needs professional intervention, because they may keep thinking gambling can help them, but not helping them and only collecting more money from them. If gambling addiction can need professional intervention, also trading addiction also needs it.

There are traders who spend a lot of time monitoring the market and the result is not good for them physically and emotionally, so technically there are some who got addicted in trading in the wrong way even if you are making profit. I guess you are right, someone can trade, make profit but continue to trade in a way that it may result to health issue for the person if keeping on trading in addicted way. Trading makes some people to continuing monitoring the screen and if they are trading in the night, the market may not come in time and they will continue to monitor the screen which is not healthy at all, even during the Day. That thing do consume a lot of energy from someone and it is something very related to the brain.

I read a news yesterday about a Spanish rehab center that is called 'The Balance', a Switzerland-founded wellness center, located in Spain. The Rehab center helps in treating of alcohol, drugs and behavioral health addictions. Recently it is adding trading addiction to its list and I was surprised to see that. You can read more about it:

The rehabilitation center cited estimates that about 1% of cryptocurrency traders will develop an "extreme" addiction to crypto trading.
https://cointelegraph.com/news/spanish-rehab-center-adds-crypto-trading-addiction-to-services-list

I think it would be perfect to bring this trading discussion. Are you addicted to trading? I am thinking that making profit from trading or making losses, there is a chance that some traders are addicted to trading. What are you doing naturally to stay away from trading addiction?

This is so easy being said than being done.

Stopping greediness is a very difficult thing to do, especially it you have a gigantic pride and ego. No matter what you do on stopping such attitude, you're more focus on making a revenge trade rather than to make a stop and learn from your bad trades. So this really needs some professional attention, however, addicted traders which has a bad habit will never seek one because they think continuing to chase their losses will give them a positive outcome in the long run.

Trading addiction is too different from gambling addiction or any of those you have mentioned and I think it was not necessary to be in rehab to cure such addiction. It was indeed becoming an addiction if we are in profit. Why do we have to submit ourselves to such a place if we know that we are addicted for good, not like in gambling we lose more?

Might this thing exist but I don't think anyone will do this.
Trading addiction is something that can be easily controlled, unlike gambling addiction that has even become more rampant these days especially when online gambling was introduced. However, with trading addiction, it only becomes possible if you keep on chasing for bigger income and you start trading with emotions, but traders can get rid of this addiction even without getting rehab. You can actually stop trading if it’s becoming unhealthy to you, or you can hand your trading coins to someone you trust which has higher experiences in trading. And lastly, trade with minimal amount so that if you lose, you will never get frustrated.

Not all of addiction in trading is just because of good profits, most of the time it is about chasing your losses, and it is not good. Most common mistakes of newbies is that, that is why it needs to be treated right away before they lose a lot of money or the worst thing, they might get buried in debt. OP didn't mention anything like trading addiction is like gambling addiction, the way I see it is like just adding up another concern in addiction.

If our practice of trading here in cryptocurrency always gives us income, it's no wonder that I will become an addict. But if you often don't get income from crypto trading I don't think you can become addicted to it.

But you can be a long-term holder if you know that you can earn a lot from it and that depends on you holding it for a long time like bitcoin and you can save a lot, it's that simple, right?
Yes, it's true, it all depends on each of us. Trading can be one of the best methods of mental training you can get in life. You learn patience, discipline, and persistence the hard way, every day. Well, except for market closes. The obsession in clicking buy/sell buttons is an addiction, but the obsession in improving one's skills, mental attributes and controlling one's emotions will eventually lead to success.
If ever this one is really legitimately be considered to be an addiction specially on trading then i could say that this type of addiction is something that could really give out advantage for you to have a life which

you could able to take advantage considering that trading skills isnt something that could really be acquired by anybody in a short span of time.We do know on what are the opportunities that it could give once we do able to take a good grasps of it.We cant really be just that too in a rush when it comes on acquiring these skills considering that it cant really be done in short time.
IF ever is someone does have the problem about trading addiction then i dont see for it to be a cons but rather it is really that beneficial instead.

Yes, I've heard stories of someone being addicted to trading, that person really lost everything because of being addicted to trading and the greedy nature he has.

I consider trading the same as someone gambling, where when we are lucky we are on our side everything goes well, but if when a loss comes we feel like trying again and again, without realizing everything will end. not fun.

For that, crypto trading is okay, the first thing we have to cultivate in ourselves is expertise, analysis, predictions and trading knowledge, not the other way around, what we have to get into is 'addiction', which will make us lose more in our trades.

I believe if a trader is addicted to trading, especially short term trading/day-trading with leverage, even if he/she is skilled, he/she will always be prone to loss because addiction will lead anyone to over-trading. A psychological defects addicts have is the inclination to keep doing what they want for the dopamine rush, not for what they can get from the activity.

Any activity that is carried out excessively will have a worse risk. I don't know how true that statement is, but trading addiction is probably one of them. Day trading or any other type of trading done on shorter time frames can be addictive. But after all trading addiction is no worse than gambling addiction. I mean when an asset we are trading goes down any time then we still own that asset until we sell it low. But if traders want to survive, they must have nothing to lose except for the fluctuating value of their assets.

Good self-control and finances will help traders get good results on trading. That includes their pattern of trading as well as the number of entries they make in a day.

There's definitely more truth to that because trading, especially if mere plebs like us do it, it's nearer to actual gambling than a business, or the act of money-making. Plus even if the mere pleb tries his hardest to learn how to trade "with skill", long term, does he/she truly believe he/she could out-trade the most of the smartest, hungriest, most well-capitalized traders currently in the market? I believe not, sooner or later plebs will lose their money to them.

Both trading and  gambling are related. They both involves making profits and losing money. And that is also why both traders and gamblers are advised to invest or gamble what they can afford to lose.
In as much as there are gambling addicts, there will also be trading addicts. It is very easy to get addicted to something. The best thing to do is to trade with care and not trade ever time.
Reduce the intensity of day trading, and yes I think that can help reduce some of the urge to get too addicted to trading. I think the main problem of trading addiction that most people fear is big losses and hard to accept losses, it's almost like losing at gambling so revenge trading will be the most likely for them to do.

Unknowingly someone has been addicted to something, including trading. But as long as these traders are able to make worth it profit, then I guess their trade is working.
That is correct. What makes traders become addicted is revenge trading which also is seen in gambling.
When discover that they have lost many time they would want to push more to get back their capital and make profit. This will therefore make them to be trading every time and what one does every time can be translated to addiction.
I have seen some traders who only trade 3 times a week and some who only trades during the weekends, that is good methods to follow in trading in order to evade addiction.

I'm not surprised about this, I've known it a long time ago, trading is addictive, it's obvious. Trading is nothing less like betting, so it might come your way or not, and when it doesn't come your way, you would want to be curious about doing it again believing you made one mistake or another. This will be giving you the mindset that you can do it better by learning/training more to achieve riches through it.

Before you knew it, you would want it more and feel good doing it, and also correcting errors every time and losing every time still in the guise of possible future success.

Many people are wasting money on trading as we speak, while traditional, futures and options trading are the aspects that this affects most.

Op you have to know that trading is a business so I can't really say it is addicting. Because in a business one, which is the owner has to buy and sell constantly to make his or her profit so with that she or he might be online all time to monitor the movement of the market whether it will be favourable at a particular time or it will favourable at the time. That is is why some traders set a particular time for there trading. Once the time has reached, they would open the trade and buy and sell immediately and closed the market.
You can become an expert and trade and make money, but trading can be an addiction.

If someone think of a business than family in a way the business is affecting the person's health, it is even an addiction. Addiction can be in anything that you are doing, but that you are overdoing and taking your time than normal.

No one should see trading as a business, it is risky. I have seen time that I was addicted, losing money and yet not sleeping well, yet trading the more and losing more money. Is that not addiction?
