Benson  which  part  of the  world  are  you living  in, our  gov  forgiving . arrrrrr.... NOT.

Well regarding  the   problems   with Kashmir is the religious  extremist  there, the  terror  groups, corrupt  cops,  self  centered  government  policies.

once upon a  time  Kashmir  was a  beautiful  place until  a  bunch of   politicians  from  both countries   decided to  fuck  it  up.

regarding  the  problem  you  faced  being  called a  Israeli, well that is  fairly common  through  Muslim areas, they all hate the  Israeli, so  they  go  about  asking   every  god  dam  foreigner if they are  from Israel, which in  my opinion is a  fucking  idiotic  thing  to  do .  and if the  Guide  did  that to you then it  was   a  real  bad  thing  that  guide did.

Next time  get a  reliable  guide,  may be a  government  one.

I'm going to guess you have never been to Kashmire and might be an Israeli. Either that or a very awkward troll.

Nope, not been to Kashmir and not from Israel. Just a text book awkward troll Cheesy

anyway if you get a guide be careful, they like to go around telling everyone you are from, Israel (not joking).

Here is why they do that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory_of_Kashmiri_descent_from_lost_tribes_of_Israel

Had read about this a long time ago, but never heard of a first hand experience.

LOL but no!

They do it cuz they are mostly Muslim. You will see more flags of Pakistan their than flags of India (no joke). Also shockingly too many posters of Osama.

More speculation than anything else, but maybe be because anyone living there may find Israel or US to be a bit better than the political conditions of either Pakistan or India. Atleast from what they have faced up north.
The Pakistan army is portrayed by media to be more aggressive than ours, which may explain the flags bit. We do have a tough military system, but forgiving leaders as well.

Come to Bengal, the Darjeeling and Siliguri area is best if you wanna be near or IN the Himalaya's

And the 8 hour long train ride from Siliguri to Darjeeling, jumping off to drink water from mountain streams, etc.
Roadside momo shops, cute north east indian girls, etc

Darj is an awesome place. I would love to retire there.

I would like to spend 6 months in India near the Himalayas.

Any suggestions where I should go? Cheap cost of living and good Internet connection is a must.

Do you think the Manali area is a good place to spend 6 months?

You should see Dharmshala, Dalhousie for sure.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dalhousie,_India

Also at anytime you want to convert your coins for INR, contact us Smiley

As far as internet speed concerns, you will not get great speeds but you can get decent speeds with idea 3G offerings ( I use them personally while I am travelling and they have decent coverage and speed ). I am not sure if Idea 3G coverage is there in Dharmshala or Dalhousie

I will search a bit and let you know.

( PS : I am going to have a long vacation in Dalhousie in early 2014 Smiley )

Thanks,

Thanks I will read on Darjeeling.

You do get internet connections in Manali although not very stable.

Although I have been unable to find Manali on the localbitcoins map, I am sure that you will find BTC acceptance in no time.

Especially in places like Parvati valley, which is chock with people from around the world.

And of course, they have a darn good reason to use BTC as well and I do hope that you find some Smiley

Manali you may not  have  a very  good  internet  connection.  but  you can make  do with  a  slow  connection.
Darjeeling  is another  good  option , internet  connection  is not much of a problem there.  September  is always  the best time  to  go there.
