It clearly states next to your negative trust that you apparently lied about your ability to send pictures.

Because it was a misunderstanding, i said "sent pics" as a figure of speech. I sent links to pics, which is pretty much the same. I cleared that up later yet Vod still went and gave me a bad rating. Whatever. doesn't matter, I'm mainly here to read news about BFL refunds and a few more interesting things that pop up. I couldn't care less if a couple of idiots decide I'm untrustworthy based on nothing.

I removed the negative trust.  It's good to know you think I'm an idiot though.

I don't think you're an idiot. My last sentence was referring to a couple of proper idiots who PM'ed me and were super rude to me, you should see their messages, you're really nice compared to them, imagine that. Smiley

No it wasn't.  No reference of PMs or anyone being rude.  Your "idiot" comment was directed at me.  You like twisting (misunderstanding) words, as you have now shown twice.

I really don't care either way.  Stop sending me private messages.  Not interested.

If it had been directed at you why would I bother to explain that it wasn't? Believe whatever you want Vod. Ps. I sent you 1 private message yesterday because I felt bad about the whole negative rating misunderstanding, stop trying to make it look like I'm clogging your inbox.

What's the best way to spot an alt account? Are most newbies alts? Can we make them traceable like get their IP addy or something? Even tumblr has that feature.

There's a few ways Wink like hilariousandco said you can figure out some sockpuppets just by writing style, similarities in forum activity. IP's wont help if the accounts are accessed through Tor, vpns etc

Observation and good old fashioned detective work. Sometimes you can tell users are the same by their posting habits or use of language. I've busted a few scammers and spammers this way.

As far as IP us regular people are not able to get it.   Which is good and bad.  Good is you don't have your IP shared with miners on it.  Bad is makes it harder to detect multiple accounts.

It's not bad if you want your accounts to remain unknown for genuine reasons, but this is just another example why users need to be extra vigilante around here and careful who they trust.

Some of you are amazing at detective work, just look at the BFL thread, it's mindblowing, a lot of super clever minds here.

One good way is normally their knowledge.  With this site being so popular it is common for people to have a account here.  That is not always true some join here with a great deal of knowledge.

Also the older the account the better the chance of being original I would say.  Again not perfect with accounts able to be sold it's not perfect.

He used an alternative account to try extort someone and it was found out the account belonged to Candystripes.

I keep hearing about " alt" accounts, what's the point of having more than 1 acc? I don't get it.

Maybe you could pretend to be a woman on one in order to scam Grin There are many valid and invalid reasons for having alt accounts. You can have one for business and one for personal, you can use them for signature campaigns, you can use one to post opinions that you may not want associated with your main account, you can have one that you use from untrusted connections/computers etc. And then there's the bad uses like ban evasion or using them to scam or troll etc. As per forum rules though you can have as many as you wish.

Sadly I think most alt accounts are used for trolling or scams etc, though there are useful uses as you listed.

I've also been given negative trust, and I've never scammed. Although I did do something wrong, it has nothing to do with my profile or my trust. Oh well, it's just a profile on a forum if you think about it.

What did you do candystripes?

He attempted to extort someone on an alt account. And just because you wern't successful in your scam doesn't mean you aren't a scammer. What DannyHamilton said also stands. Most people here don't trust you or think you're untrustworthy and your feedback reflects this.

Extort someone on an alt account? What does that mean? I'm glad he wasn't successful in his scam and I understand why some people don't trust him but I still don't understand what he tried to do.

You can find that in the reference and comments section in his trust page https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=325115

Seems there are different interpretations about what the trust is

Correct.

Fortunately, the trust system has a method to deal with this.

You get to choose whose feedback matters to you.

If you don't like the way that I assign trust values, then don't include me in your trust network.  If you like the way that jaberwock assigns trust values, then include him in your trust network.

When used properly, you choose the people whose feedback you value and trust.  Then the "score" that you see is based on the value assigned by the people whose feedback you value.

- snip -

Trust has nothing to do with scamming, or transactions, or theft, or lying.

Trust has to do with whether others believe that the person using that ID on this forum has acted in an ethical, moral, reliable, and otherwise "trustworthy" manner.

If people believe that the things you have said or done are an indication that you are unethical, immoral, unreliable, or otherwise untrustworthy, then they will leave you negative trust with an explanation of why so that others can decide for themselves if they want to risk trusting you in any manner.

The trust stuff says:

Negative - You were scammed or you strongly believe that this person is a scammer.

Negative trust is for scammers or potential scammers. Not about how good or bad people is.

Seems there are different interpretations about what the trust is
