i don't think people need to worry about the proliferation of cryptocurrencies. The vast majority will naturally disappear as the technology and industry evolve.  Bitcoin has the advantage of being the most well known at this early stage but it does have some problems and if a new coin can solve some of those problems in a compelling way it may gain value and acceptance. All the clones of existing coins are not really compelling and will disappear over time.

Well if you lack understanding of code this happens. You could get advice or help from someone. Look at other coins source and so on.
I like the name.
Release it some day.  Smiley

When will the new alt coins end?

At some point, isn't this really hurting cryptocoins as a whole?

I think its great to have bitcoin and litecoin... maybe one or two other specialized ones...not 100

What for a new coin? Better to focus on increasing value of existing ones. Well anyway if you succeed please don't premine your own coin, leave something for others!  Tongue

I just wanted to see what makes these thing tick, so I made a clone. Effectively did it for giggles and now I want to see if it works outside my LAN

No premine... Got the genesis block mined and posted here with the source.

Please don't post without reading OP.

Why should I read more than the title if he cannot use the search bar and find a thread explaining step by step everything about creating a new coin?

PiCoin (PCN)
π

Totally pointless crypto-homage to the circle.

Block target of 3.14 minutes
Block payout of π3.14159265359
Coin Maximum 314,159,265
Difficulty adjusts daily
120 confirms

I have a working wallet, but no rigs to test it outside my LAN. Anyone want to come play beta tester?

I only have a working linux build so anyone with windows is going to have to build it.

Now, I've seen how you guys feel about new coins popping up...

I'm building one just for the hell of it, kind of a personal interest in understanding cryptocurrencies a little better. Never done this before, but I have some basic knowledge of the C programming languages.

I'm calling it PiCoin (PCN) and following the lead of Doubloons (DBL) by creating a coin that isn't intended to make a shitload of money.

I've got my LTC clone just about done, but I can't get the damned thing built to test it. It keeps throwing the same error message and I haven't the foggiest clue what to do about it.

Anyone wanna throw a newb a little advice?
