I usually do it manually because bots spam my notifications with rubbish they want me to look at and pay for their site. These type do usually have a profile pic, sometimes naked pictures etc for cam services or whatever is being sold

I use Unfollow (https://manageflitter.com/unfollow).
If you use it for free it's limited to some 20 unfollows per day, but it does the job, it helps you unfollow accounts that don't follow you back or, what is of interest for you, unfollow fake accounts. They give a spam/fake score or something like that and you decide which to unfollow and which to keep.

I advise you use it for free then decide if it's what you need, since, while it's very easy to use, you still need to make your choice and push the button for every one you want to stop following.

That's pretty messed-up if Twitter will deactivate you for blocking accounts. It should be your choice as to whether you want certain followers or not. I always block spammers and porn accounts. haven't had any problems yet, but will make a stink if they disable me for that.

if you only remove the eggs avatar followers its impossible to get banned on twitter , i just remove about 1k eggs from my twitter

im using unfollow jet, its an android app that automatically remove inactive and bot followers on twitter and it works like charm. it can be download it free on google playstore. also there were many alternatives that you can download for free, so dont ever pay or waste your precious dollars for such an easy service.

ManageFilter is free and you can remove the bots/spam, inactive, no profile pic, quiet, not following back. They do have a free version and paid version. With the free version, you could remove up to 800 followers (they changed recently and don't know what is the limit with a free membership now)
I think Socialfav is doing similar (not sure).

There are many apps/site where you can see real followers. You can start removing them from there

Actually true, I bought this twitter audit pro, and and it actually worked. Previously I have 39% fake followers, and now I have actually 0-1%.

But that doesn't guarantee it removes all fake followers. 39% fake followers were also based on result of Twitter Audit and new result is also based on Twitter Audit. One can't say it has worked 100% correct, both results may have errors or manipulations but as we have only one site to measure that, we have to go with it.
