It's good news but how about the delays on transactions? Maybe some workarounds?
Soon lightening network will be activated on bitcoin network which will allow off chain transaction that will be faster and cheaper. After lightening network paying for a cup of coffee with instant confirmation will be possible.

Uber like services can than start accepting bitcoin because users don't have to wait for hours to get confirmation on their transaction.

Uber's had trouble with regulation in many countries and states. Bitcoin can help them operate better in these areas. If people convert fiat to bitcoin for spending, it's just them using it as a currency and not investing.
I doubt that this form of settlement would be in demand. In order to pay for the trip you will need the same amount to pay for the transaction. Still have to wait a while. Who likes this? Maybe this information serves only as advertising.
Yes that makes sense, it maybe is only advertising. But the idea itself sounds pretty cool. I really like seeing Uber and Bitcoin coming together.  Cheesy

They alreay showed some movement to the cryptocurrencies by accepting the bitcoin tips so the question of bitcoin payments is just a matter of time. Hopefully a new CEO will implement those changes a bit faster.

Seems like it is not worth paying BTC for uber rides due to the high transaction fees. Perhaps if we could top up uber credit like $100 per transaction.

Yes this is good news for us and of course bitcoin investors too. However, there needs faster service from the blockchain because it takes time for the confirmation. This has been very common problem since the mining difficulty has increased. This is related because miners are the only one who confirms our transaction and make it successful. There should be a technique which will instantly confirm the transaction, or may be give a temporary security for the transaction by checking the balance in wallet and which can later confirmed. Hope there will be developments like this.

using bitcoin as uber's payment service is impractical to use especially for booking where transcation and processing time is still not real time but for for tipping purposes where on-demand payment is not highly necessary is another good payment option for this.
When transaction payment delay, will the the driver still allows us to leave even it's still not conforming? There's a lot to consider in implementing it like, the transaction fee will it be inclusive on fare , the delays the idea is good but needs sime test too.

It's not that simple. Uber is regulated in every jurisdiction where it operates (in some cases very tightly regulated). They can't just offer Bitcoin payments company-wide. If anything, they'll do some small pilot programs in very limited regions, and then roll out it from there. Assuming this is actually in the works, it could take years to fully roll out, and some jurisdictions may never have Bitcoin payments available.

I'm with xplorer79 on the problem of transaction fees.  Right now, you could easily pay $5 to move $20 or $30.  Which is ridiculous and against one of the founding tenets of bitcoin (low tx fees).

If Uber does accept Bitcoin payments for the services rendered, I think it will still be up to the government body of a specific country if they will allow it so. Because in my country, Philippines, a lot of things especially in Uber and Grab which are private service providers are being monitored. In fact, Uber in the Philippines is temporarily not available because it was restrained from operating. Uber had to pag a find of 190 million pesos fine and must show proof that they compensated their drivers. Bottom line is, the goverment will really have a say, or at least in our country.

So far it functions with the Shift Card. The shift card Visa debit works great but may not be available in your state.
This is a good solution until Uber starts to accept bitcoin directly. In India it's already a topic. Here - http://www.indiabitcoin.com/uber-in-india-bitcoin-makes-sense-for-future-of-urban-transport-cointelegraph/

Interesting...
But considering the high transaction fees and delays of bitcoin, how could it work ? Accepting Bitcoin on Expedia is one thing as you don't really need instant payments for booking a room and could easily include a 5$ transaction fee, but accepting it on Uber where you really need instant, very low payment, and then very low transaction fees is another thing...
Or perhaps I am missing something ?

We just wait for an official announcement that they state the acecptance of bitcoin in their driving and transportation services. There are too many rumors about it, hop all of them will be real soon. And this will make bitcoin stronger than ever!
