I think it is good to pay taxi with bitcoin but it's not practical because of bitcoin high fees for small transactions.

Should we start a petition to these people?

Imagine the possibility! I think Lyft will respond faster!

They would have been considering this option really but business decisions like this goes beyond petition and I think its still largely reliant on government approval because most of the major businesses are always concerned of the side of the law they want to belong to but where our petition should be directed at are the policy makers in which companies such as Uber or any other one are under obligations to comply with. Also even if the petition is successful which is obviously the case, large number will vote  yes but let's have it at the back of our mind that we might not get what we wanted but surely we are one step closer.

They will accept or reject Bitcoin depending on their interest, when they recognize that Bitcoin is useful for them, they will accept it without hesitance.

Heard of Uber, but never heard of Lyft.

I don't know.  You'd have to be able to solve the confirmation time problem.  You don't want
to be sitting in someone's car waiting forever.  You know how long it takes sometimes to get
that first confirmation.

Honestly, I'd rather pay for a ride with cash.  It's more anonymous and way faster than
bitcoin.  So no, I wouldn't bother with a useless online petition.  Leave it be.
You do have a point but when speaking on confirmation time you wont really need to wait since once the bitcoins have been trasnfered already it cant be reversed which means you can directly leave the cab once you have paid but it would really be a senseless thing if we do try to look on the fee this will surely hurt you up than on paying up on your local fiat money since its fixed and you wont really bother on other fee. That is why this thing is somehow impossible thing to happen or way they would able to accept such thing on bitcoin.Id rather prefer to stay on the traditional ways.

If that will be the case it is extremely beneficial to the commuters who will avail of their services. Aside from efficiency the drivers cannot make ask for extra pay because everything will be recorded in the transaction and the clients can use that as evidence against them. Hope this will be implemented this will be a good start for bitcoin and the transportation groups.

Any product or services that accept bitcoin as payment is by means beneficial since it increases the reputation of bitcoins to the general public. In this case, the more retailers accept it as a payment, more people would realize and start to invest into bitcoin, thus attracting new investors daily. If in the event that bitcoin were to be used by at least most of the population, then each country's government would consider improving the system. Soon, the bitcoin era would focus on providing opportunities to everyone and may be part of a solution in alleviating poverty.

Maybe the petition you submitted will be successful but still there are many problems we face in this case, besides the long transaction time issue, then large fee just for a fairly small transaction, and also the readiness of the drivers to receive payments through Bitcoin, they should have a good training so they won’t incurred loss and make a system that facilitate the transaction, either for passenger or the driver.

The problem is the processing time for bitcoin is too slow and unreliable, it's not like ordering online where you can wait for the bitcoin transaction to be processed prior to shipping the product.

The speed time is really what's delaying the wide adoption of bitcoin but this would be pretty awesome if lyft/uber did this.

Prepaid! Buy in advance and have prepaid account, then as you use they deduct based on realtime value of the bitcoin.

True, it’s possible if the payment system is prepaid and every 1 Bitcoin we deposit there the value will remain same with the one in uber/lyft wallet account. This will be a big market and also increase the fame of bitcoin  at the same time.

Uber and Lyft accepting Bitcoin would be a really good thing for them to do but I'm not sure how many people are spending their bitcoins these days as so many people are HODLing right now.

Uber is the first to accept Bitcoin. Lyft only copied them because they are the competition.

This is going to be great. I've already expected this to happen before. With the popularity of bitcoin, there's no doubt that big companies and businesses will accept it in exchange of their services. I've heard that Uber has already started accepting bitcoin as payment for their service. It is not really something new at all since we are using money in paying products and services, but the convenience that bitcoin brings to people is what makes life of people easier.

Nice idea! It would be very convenient for us if they'll just gonna accept BTC as a mode of payment for our rides in their service. I'm a regular Uber rider here in our place and this would save me some penny if I'm gonna use BTC. It is quite possible because they are using smartphone as their main device to navigate the streets and we all know that there are some notable BTC app integrated in smartphones nowadays. Uber drivers could have some learning curve regarding BTC but that is always accompanied when new tech is being introduced to other people. Hopefully, they'll gonna consider this one.
Everyone wants to earn more and if these those companies wants to be progressive and to get huge profit from their services they must accept bitcoin as payment, this will bring more good days for the bitcoin user as well as the UBER, this is one of the best ideas and if it will be implemented people will use their bitcoins in good way.

That's very good news!

The more companies start accepting and integrating bitcoin to there system the more popular it will become.

What is good news?
The thread is about making a petition for Uber and Lyft to accept bitcoins.
None of them is accepting BTC right now and none is currently planing.
Are we starting another amazon fake story?

Last I heard Uber already is accepting Bitcoin for tipping, but I did not know they are planning to accept it for regular payments. That is very cool.  Cool

It'a a tip app that was integrated by some uber drivers.
They made it more like a pr stunt.

If they do choose to work with btc they would have to make some sort of wallets mimicking a prepaid card where your funds are locked when you order a cab.
It's a bit complicated and it will have to take into account the exchange rate, a lot of security, and a lot of legal papers as uber will hold some of your funds just like paypal is doing.

Uber will definitely start accepting bitcoins, to my mind. It could be really convenient for many Uber users, especially for tourists, I think, and I suppose such company will do its best to keep up with the clients.
The main question is when they're going to do this, I think, it will happen gradually. Some countries will have to wait anyway, because there are still problems with paying for taxi by credit card, I'm not sure we are ready to speak about crypto currency in this situation.

I think the best strategy would be to approach one - maybe you are correct about Lyft. If Lyft made an announcement about accepting BTC, then Uber I am certain would not want to be left flat-footed and would also join the party.

Cool idea, When are you going to approach them?

there is no Uber in my country but doesn't Uber already accept bitcoin, i remember reading something about it some time ago!

in any case if you can find enough people that actually want this, then why not. make a petition or just directly contact them and show your interest. they may do it if they see enough demand for it.

They were thinking about letting users tip with Bitcoin if I remember correctly. They don't currently accept it as payment. It's a step towards the right direction at least.

But yeah, starting a petition might be the best way to grab their attention. How many signatures do you think we may need to make a splash?

it is hard to say, because it depends on them. some people are more flexible towards bitcoin and doing stuff like this than others. so one CEO may require a lot of push where another may only need a nudge.
it also depends on how many customer they have. i'd say in comparison the signatures have to be a good percentage of their customers.
