Yes. I know it's not a very powerful device but it's enough for the necessary actions and at least it's built by 'free hardware'. Don't know about any other mobile device you are fully able to control the hardware.
I don't understand why this is so exciting. What's the difference between using android and ubuntu if you use proprietary software anyway. Simply buy an OpenMoko, install debian and use free software only. That's the real deal and possible since years.

To those who prefer Nokia Linux OS's (like Maemo) to Ubuntu, I'd like to ask whether that OS's support postgresql, because Android doesn't.
yes. postgresql was available for Maemo. I don't know a thing about Meego but Maemo 4 and 5 were the perfection 
(imo of course) Most debian applications worked with little modifications and it was possible to directly install and boot debian or latter, ubuntu too, directly on the devices (N800/N810/N900)Nokia had an application manager back in 2005!!! That was fucking years Apple "invented" App Store.
But that was long time ago.. Now, Nokia can go to hell and stay down there with their Microsoft alliance. Google has already stated they will not write apps for windows phone. I sincerely hope other follow suit.

Why is it?Ubuntu phone turns me off because I like simplistic user interfaces. Their desktop ui is a total clusterfuck and phone interface seems to follow suit.
A phone OS called Tizen is also in my watchlist since it's using enlightenment foundation libraries (EFL) for the UI. The smoothest thing since iOS. Though, like Ubuntu, they appear to fail with the simplicity.
Personally I don't like this Nokia Linuxes. Nokia used to be the leader of mobile phones in Europe, but they lost their train, because they gave to much support to the not Open source OS, like Window and Symbian.
It's long time I analysed for the last time their Maemo Os, but it was worse, from my point of view than Android, even if I'd like to change Android to an really Open source Os on my mobile.

I for one, don't really mind of one way or the other, I refuse to use ubuntu on principal, but not because 'install gentoo' told me so. I think debian derivations are the bees knees by the way.
But I'm a sucker for Arch and Open SuSe.

The current decision of Ubanto's founding company, Canonical, of integrating desktop amazon searches by default, and the fact they send your queries to their own servers, for who knows what.
Still, even for people who don't like Ubuntu (I myself run a vanilla Debian distrib), I think it's still a good news because it might give an incentive for constructors to ensure their hardware is FOSS compliant.
In other words, Ubuntu can be another troyan horse for free software.
