I can't believe Portugal was struggle to beat Slovenia, moreover Ronaldo failed to score the penalty kick. Diogo Costa is really a man of the match, he saved 3 penalty shots, that's crazy. This is why FC Porto is very known as one of the best defensive teams.

Today two match would be unpredictable, any team will have a chance to win, not to mention they might ends in draw.

Personally I think Netherlands will win, and Austria vs Turkey will ends in draw, but Austria will qualify to the quarter final.

Portugal played the group matches well and what happened yesterday was just bad luck, but Slovenia played this match very well, it is very difficult to resist such an opponent. As for France, they haven’t changed anything, they have played very poorly in attack from the very beginning of the tournament and they are lucky that Belgium, for some reason, also cannot show their best game. Of all the teams, I like Spain the most, they demonstrate their superiority in every game.
Portugal didn't play well, they almost lost but they were a little lucky because Slovenia didn't play well either.
Winning via penalty shootout had a slight element of luck, and overall it must be admitted that Portugal's performance was very disappointing and the player most highlighted was C.Ronaldo, he failed to execute a penalty at a crucial time, fortunately Portugal escaped, otherwise Ronaldo would have been the player. who is most to blame.

While France managed to win by a narrow score over Belgium, I think this is a reasonable result, France played very well even though their front line did not perform optimally and on the other hand Belgium is a very bad team in my opinion, this has been seen since the group stage.

Glory To Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!
To be frank, I wasn't really impressed by the performance of France yesterday because I expected a better performance from them, though they won one nil, but I think that they were just lucky, because Belgium on the other hand is not doing well on their own, they have been practically poor throughout this tournament, so I was expecting France to win convincingly which was never the case here, so if they don't improve massively, I don't think they can cross the semi final stage of this competition, because they have been really poor, comparing to their standard.

And as for the game between Portugal vs Slovenia, it was actually a fascinating encounter and a very difficult match for the Portugal side, because the Slovenians were very compact defensively, and they proved a very hard nut to crack, though cristiano Ronaldo miss a penalty kick in extra time,  but I just feels like it just one of those days for Portugal that no matter what they do, the ball will just refused to go in, but a big congratulations to them for winning it on penalties.

I have to compliment Slovenia for the technically perfect match, then where they don't succeed with technique they put their heart into it, that's how you play, tell Italy!, but I also have to compliment Portugal who stood out for their class and a certain player like Cristiano Ronaldo the Eternal who even started crying after he missed the penalty, what determination, we won't see someone like that again, I hope he wins the tournament

Sincerely speaking, Slovenia played to my unexpectation against Portugal team yesterday. Portugal team consists of highly experienced and famous players and they have shown seriousness from the beginning of this tournament. Despite I know that the game will be a tough match for both teams, I really don’t  expect Portugal to end up in penalty kick with Slovenia. I gave Portugal a direct win.

Yeah, that’s one thing I like about Ronaldo, his sportsmanship is extraordinary. Unfortunately, his age is threatening the love he has for the game. Regardless of whether he wins the tournament or not, he has already earned a name to be remembered for.

After Ronaldo missed a penalty many people shouted that Ronaldo is not a good player, although we all know that Ronaldo is getting old when it comes to penalty play Ronaldo is the best, no player can not miss a penalty, even the young players this day miss a penalty so I don’t see any wrong with Ronaldo missing a penalty, all thanks to the goalkeeper Diogo costa that save the penalty shootout against Slovenia and allow Portugal to qualify to the quarter-final of the tournament.
I believe some people's standard is just insane nowadays, other than the obvious hater and troll who will make fun of him or any player for any reason they can find. On the other hand, some comments suggest that Portugal plays a poor game because Ronaldo needs to be the center of their team, so he should be taken off and so on. I think that's just how it is for a popular player. I do agree that expecting a goal for every penalty taken is unrealistic. It sucks if it happens, but they shouldn't rely on that to score goals to begin with.

a certain player like Cristiano Ronaldo the Eternal who even started crying after he missed the penalty, what determination, we won't see someone like that again, I hope he wins the tournament
I believe there are tons of players who cry whenever their team fails to win, or if they fail to score a crucial goal/make a mistake. I believe it shows just how emotional they are in a match, not directly related to determination. Not really surprising if you compete at this level of tournament to feel emotional.

I'm accepting that England played terrible. However I think other favourites also played very badly in the tournament except Spain and Germany. Therefore I started to think that England still have a serious chance to win the tournament. Portugal would say goodbye to the tournament in last 16 today if it weren't for their goalkeeper Diogo Costa's amazing performance.
Opportunities are still there but things like that will not be too much of a concern if Southgate's game management in the England national team attack remains the same.

It should be realized that it is the scheme that has been England's problem until now so that even though they are faced with a game that is actually a little easier in terms of opponents but with a poor attack scheme that makes their condition not experience a significant difference.
The quarter-finals they will face Switzerland, which in terms of players have seen that England is still better but in terms of teamwork, Switzerland is actually still strong, especially with their achievements in qualifying from the group phase and round of 16 that cannot be underestimated because their opponents are strong.
Switzerland can hold a draw with Germany and beat Italy in the round of 16 that indicates that they are a dark horse that needs to be aware of and England's performance must be more than the matches they did before if they want to beat Switzerland in the quarter-finals later.

You have to feel sorry for Slovenia. They defended themselves really well, and it looked like that penalty saved by Oblak would give them a massive psychological advantage, but nope, they got outclassed in the shootout.
I'm glad Christiano Ronaldo managed to redeem himself. It's probably his last international tournament, so if they were to drop off because of that missed penalty, that would be devastating for him.

Current odds after tonight's round:

England is the favourite, but that's largely due to them having Switzerland as the opponent in the quarter-final, which is considered one of the weakest team in the bunch.
My first pick is Spain, followed by Portugal.

I cannot believe England are considered favourites ahead of both Spain and France. This I suppose could
be based on their 95th last gasp goal to go to extra time against Slovakia I suspect.
Are people thinking that they have finally clicked as a team rather than really talented individuals? and that
all happened in extra time against Slovakia  . . .

Of the top 4 or 5 favourite teams they have performed the weakest - consistently over the 4 matches.

Switzerland next which is seen as an easy draw.

France-Belgium match was good, France advanced to the next round with the goal they scored in the last minutes.

Portugal-Slovenia match went to extra time, Portugal won a penalty in extra time, but Ronaldo could not score the penalty and the match went to penalties.
Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa saved 3 penalties and became the star of the night.

I was also very touched when I saw Ronaldo's tears. He is a very ambitious player. Even though he is 40 years old, he has amazing determination. He may be the most ambitious player in the world. If I remember correctly, he hasn't scored a goal yet in Euro 2024. He may be crying because he missed that opportunity. I hope he can manage to score a goal in the match against Mbappe. He is an idol and we all want him to become European champion.

Even before I thought England would be sent home by Slovakia because England could not return the goal for a long time, but fortunately Jude Bellingham had a very important role in saving England so that it had the opportunity and hope to add goals and ended with Kane making the score 2-1 in the second half added time, I think a lot of gamblers were surprised if Slovakia could really beat England in the match.

And now Spain vs Gorgia, which previously in the first half was initially pressed quite impressively so that it could get a goal for Gorgia, but gradually the time went by Spain took its position and until this moment in the second half Spain seemed to excel much more dominant with a score of 3-1, really if you pay attention to this match now Gorgia is embarrassed by only being given a little time to play the ball, but Spain really tries a lot of efforts to add more and more scores, judging from the statistics of control of the ball and the number of shots it is very different and it is quite possible to conclude that Spain will win this match.
For now I think it's fair to call Spain probably the most prepared and active team so far in this tournament, these boys have shown their class in every way possible and not to think that they actually went a goal down before they equalized the goal and ran rampant and wild on this Georgia side and they will definitely get to the finals if this particular form is maintained.
It doesn't matter because Castillo seems to be ready to be unpredictable which is better than expected at least for me who didn't expect too much from Spain.

But it looks like Spain's test will only start in the quarterfinals. Now with Germany and Spain winning, they will indirectly meet and beat each other in the quarter-finals which of course makes it a situation where we will be difficult to make predictions.
Another match is Portugal who are ready to challenge France after their difficulty in getting a ticket to the quarter-finals especially a lot of drama that did occur in yesterday's match.

Portugal were almost criticized for their performance after some blunders and a missed penalty from Cristiano. But Costa impressed with crucial saves in the penalty shootout.
With Portugal's win yesterday, we will indirectly see a repeat of the 2016 final which of course the two big matches in the quarter-finals will be worth watching.

France were really lucky with that winner in the last minutes. Such a domination by 20 goal attempts but only 2 on target? This isn't good statistics at all honestly.  Sad  There is a serious finishing issue with this team. If France had a more capable opponent I think they would probably got eliminated.
Yes, France was very lucky this time, very lucky, because thanks to OG by Vertonghen, they were finally able to win the match and advance to QF. It was the only goal scored in the match, and it's OG. In fact, France had a lot of opportunities to invade, so they even continuously attacked Belgium. However, Belgium was still able to break their attack very well. This time, their defenders really played very effectively, so that France was only able to take 2 shots on target and all of them were saved.

Belgium in this case must be very sorry, especially Vertonghen, of course, because of his OG, they had to lose badly and go home with that defeat. Look at how sad the expressions of Vertonghen, de Bruyne and Lukaku were, after the OG.

France is the team that played very effectively in the match. They initiated almost every attack. It would not be an exaggeration to say that Belgium could not show any presence in the match. Finally there was a match that had to be decided by a penalty shootout, unfortunately for Slovenia, all three of their shooters failed to execute well, it may seem that Diogo Costa did brilliantly by saving all three kicks from the Slovenian players but I think otherwise that the Slovenian players did not execute well, it was very easy to guess by Diogo Costa where the direction of the ball from the Slovenian players.

And France making it to the quarterfinals was pure luck, the match should have gone to extra time and most likely a penalty shootout but Vertogen's mistake ended Belgium's hopes, and Mbappe still looks out of form he seems to be trying to keep his nose well  Cheesy

To be honest, yesterday's matches were very tough, is not that the teams played well but they tried their best to win and secure a spot in another round of the tournament if I was told you that Portugal would suffer yesterday before winning Slovenia I would not believe because Portugal has good players and players that have big names in the squad, Portugal has players but those players are not that good to create a chance to score goals, look at the way Portugal players are moving with the ball, the wing’s players are not good to dribble and create a chance, and that is one of the main reasons why Portugal find it difficult to win the match.

One of the most interesting matches was between Portugal vs Slovenia, as both teams attacked a lot and the match ended in a draw in the last stages. Both teams then played till the last moment but could not score any goals, then the match went to penalties, actually penalties depend on the luck of each team. We had a bit of luck against Portugal in some matches, which led to them winning on penalties and qualifying for the quarter-finals. Slovenia's luck may not have been on their side as they came close to winning but lost and were forced out of the Euro Cup, a tough one for them. However, the match was more aggressive in all aspects, with both teams playing well and Portugal qualifying for the next round. However, Portugal's next match against France certainly looks to be more of a threat for Portugal.
It was indeed a well-fought-out match between Portugal and Slovenia that came with a lot of intriguing moments right from the official 90 minutes that gave the Portuguese side a lot of advantages and chances though they couldn't convert them into goals. By all standards, Portugal would have easily won the match in the official 90 minutes of play but something was surely missing in the attack as Christian Ronaldo wasn't able to be clinical enough in front of the goalpost. He still has the love and passion for the game but a lot has changed with regards to his strength and ability to assist his teammates in sourcing for the ball. It gets even worse when he misses all his free kicks and even when he had the opportunity to give his team a smooth lead in the late penalty they hard, he couldn't still score. They are just lucky that their goalkeeper was at his best today and gave them three consecutive saves that saw them winning the match and proceeding to play against France in the quarter-finals.

It would be a huge moment for the man, Kalien Mbape who has had Christian Ronaldo as his idol right from his childhood and is now standing in the way of his idol hoping to stop him from winning. It would be another tough game for both the Portuguese side and the France team. The journey to the finals is becoming tougher by the way. With France, Portugal, Germany, England, and Spain already seated in the quarter-finals spot, Friday will be a huge day to anticipate.

It was a very painful loss that will be uneasy to ensure. Grasping that the only goal came through an own goal is the most painful part of the story. France has won five of their games in major competitions against Belgium but this one was very close. I had expected to see an entertaining and exciting game considering the quality of players both teams can boast of but the game fell short of my expectations. Both teams struggled to make an impact even Mbappe was struggling to make an impact with most of his shots going wide.
It's painful to lose a match with a late OG but in the match France players played better than Belgian players and it's only painful in a way they lost this match. If saying Belgium did not deserve to lose it, it's unfair for France that played better.

Difference between them can be small in result but Belgium played like they aimed at penalty shootout. With all big pressure created by France, and opportunities they have, shot they make, they deserve to win and book a spot in quarter final. They won, it's good but they must to train their attacking players and improve shot accuracy. Tchouameni in this match, made many shots but did not succeed a single time. In other big matches, he maybe will have only one chance to shot and must do it better.

France and Portugal managed to win the match and advance to the quarter-finals, France had to fight until the 85th minute to get an own goal yeah we know it's not just luck because there is more effort with 19 shots. In other matches, Portugal also won the match on penalties as we expected Portugal did it with great difficulty well, 2 other teams have taken their place in the quarter finals

Nothing special made by these two national teams in this tournament. They were hardly struggling to win every single match since the tournament started. What I can see from this year Euro is that almost all teams are under their best performance, Spain is the only team that can be said as the most consistent team so far.

we are waiting for 2 other teams to also take their place there Netherland and Turkey are my favorites or will we see another surprise there?

Netherland is the favorite obviously but Romania may give surprise because they may play nothing to lose. Netherland will be in a bigger pressure to win the match but if they can overcome the pressure, they will beat Romania eventually. In the other match Austria vs Turkey, I prefer to take Austria as the winner because they played well in the group stage and I think they can beat Turkey if they keep their consistency like what they did when they defeated Netherland and Poland.

The Belgian side will have to purge itself from some aging players like Lukaku but I think Kevin de Bruyne still has a future with the national team. He would have gotten a goal if not for the spectacular save by Mike Maignan. The French team will have to wait for the outcome of the Portugal and Slovakia match to know who their quarterfinal opponent will be. Any of both teams will give the French national team a good fight considering their performance in the competition so far.

Ronaldo also cried when he faced the goalkeeper from Slovenia who played very well to keep his goal from conceding, because Jan Oblak always saved several of Ronaldo's kicks, including penalty kicks.
Ronaldo acted like an angry toddler after he missed a penalty. He has said sorry for his mistake in the game against Slovania. Ronaldo, as a captain, he should have maintained his team well. They have not lost the game after Ronaldo's penalty miss. His crying emits all of his negative energy.

The right thing was that, as a leader, Ronaldo should console his teammates. They are down because of him. He is the captain of Portugal.

And again, don't forget, ronaldo made lots of shots on target, but it's that oblak was on his best form.
