Just some few questions, what will happen to Ulbricht's Bitcoin account? Where will his millions and millions worth of BTC go?

After he was found guily on every count http://bitforum.info/t/ross-ulbricht-found-guilty-on-all-charges/223?u=angelo

Will his things be confiscated after the sentencing?

What do you think?

May?
Isnt that too long?
He should be sentenced now.

Well yeah. A smart person wouldn't of started a dodgy drug trading site in the first place. Your gonna get caught sooner or later, guaranteed.
His lack of security is not even that. He even started out using an email address that contained his real name when he was trying to hire people to help him get the site started.

He honestly should have closed the site down when he was getting blackmailed by the person who claimed to be in Canada. Either that or shut it down when the guy in MD was arrested. By then he had made a lot of money and as of then he probably would not have gotten caught

The power/money/infamy had obviously corrupted him and he was willing to go to whatever lengths to protect his interests and that included paying lots of money to murder threats to his empire so he wasn't ever going to shut the site down.

It seems that money/power/greed/stupidity are powerful forces, perhaps vastly more powerful than any us not in that situation could imagine.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. I think many would have done the same in his situation but most won't get themselves into this sort of position. He should have stuck to his initial libertarian ideology. You can't just go killing off your enemies and he should have protected himself so much that no problems would have ever arisen. He was sloppy and resorted to desperate measures to keep control of his position and it was ultimately part of his downfall.

Allegedly!

Well actually no, legally we can say he did it. He was convicted.

Yes you are right.

I don't think he will get life. Maybe 20 years, but not life for sure.

Who knows- it depends on how much of an example the government wants to make of him. I've got the feeling, probably quite a huge example.

I mean, I don't like the guy. He seems like an idiot who had a mean streak, it's better he didn't end up some sort of real kingpin. That said, putting a young guy away for life is hash too.

Consider all his bitcoins gone (proceeds of crime) unless he managed to hide some.

Do you  really think that he never had any personal BTC wallets other than those he had in SR? He definitely had at least a dozen. And he is never going to reveal them to anyone.

Do you really think DPR is honestly running SR from a public library inside one of the most powerful and ruthless drug law enforcers on the planet?

Oh wait....

I personally think he doesn't have anything stashed away. Why would he have? He was thoroughly convinced he would never be caught. If he even though it would have been possible for him to be caught, he would have, you know, not used his real email address. Or told friends. Or stayed in America. Or keep a journal, or, or, or, or....

He totally fucked up mega-big time. The reason being, that he simply wasn't smart enough to be running that sort of enterprise in the first place.

The guys that ran Atlantis or Sheeps market seem to be order of magnitude more clever. They took the money and ran and thus far, no one has heard from them again.

The money was already spent before they busted his ass, planned robbery and set up as he was taking some of their customers  Grin

Seriously though the coins are theirs to do as they please, was it 100,000 BTC plus the other 80k? That's quite a good robbery poor Ross bet he is pissssed.

The Feds already auctioned off a portion of Ross' coins and the next few batches are coming in due time. Ross is screwed and will likely get a life sentence and more when the hearing takes place on the 30th of May. He's finished unless an appeal gets him some justice.

Too young to be spending his entire lifetime in the can

He shouldve thought about that when he started Silk Road

You should have thought more carefully before you spoke. You don't belong here.

The only real way he realistically could ever recover the bitcoin is if he had stored them in a brain wallet, and the fact that there are so few large addresses that match the description of the 'missing' bitcoin I would find this unlikely
He would only need to have one brainwallet address. He could then just sha256 hash it to get another private key and so on....

In theory this is correct, however I don't think comes off as smart enough to do something like this.

In theory this is correct, however I don't think comes off as smart enough to do something like this. My impression is that he got most of his security related advice from others.

I would personally say the most likely scenario is that he had the private keys stored on other servers whose hosting will eventually expire......either that or he was running on a fractional reserve and the rest of the funds were either spent or lost (he did have $2 million worth of funds lost on gox)
