Unicode 10.0 was released today, Tuesday 20th June 2017, and it includes the ubiquitous BTC symbol.

https://www.theverge.com/2017/6/20/15840008/new-emoji-unicode-consortium-version-10-bitcoin-symbol

What is a unicode? Is it an application used to program like C++?
People can basically instead of having a special button to display BTC like on this fora they can start typing the BTC symbol in their word processors, emails, tweets, Facebook posts, forums, etc once the developers have coded it into their respective software.

Just because you, me and several others here are interested in Bitcoin and have made the bank many times over because of it, Bitcoin is simply another innovation and technology that people glance over and nod at and then go back to the matters in front of them.

Your point is?

Wow, this has been announced for quite some time! Almost two years ago, I remember really well... It's finally here! Smiley A great step for Bitcoin, indeed.

You really think the common person missed the fact that Bitcoin exists in the past couple years?  There are probably quite a few people that do not know it is out there and there are even more people that simply do not care.  Bitcoin is simply not that big of a deal in the deal world and while it may be one of the building blocks to a new age of commerce and currency, people will not give a second thought to it until it happens.

Until what happens? I guess bitcoin is happening for quite some time. It went mainstream a couple of years ago. Yeah, not everybody in the world knows about it, but a few years ago Japan would not even have thought about legalising bitcoin, Russia and India would not have been planning to regulate bitcoin, Venezuelan's would not have been turning to bitcoin to escape hyperinflation, and there are many more things to add, but the point is it is happening. Microsoft recognizing bitcoin and now Unicode adding bitcoin symbol proves that bitcoin is steadily moving forwards on its mainstream march.

This is not a religion, it is not a wave of enlightenment that the world must be prepared for before it arrives and the government has taken nearly all the steps that it is going to take up to this point to control it.

Really? No one is bothered?  Huh Huh Huh Roll Eyes
Well it is kind of interesting, but it's not like this is something that is going to be used constantly by people, for the most part. Maybe it will help to bring some merchants a more effective way of advertising their acceptance of Bitcoin (or users in general just making more comments on it without having to use fancy symbols) but there likely won't be discussions based entirely on the existence of a Unicode symbol. There's a lot of other codes that exist too.

I might use it but I never really did much with Unicode in the first place.
