Download the up to date wallet for your OS here[1] and install it. Do not remove the old version it will just be overwritten.

Just leave the wallet.dat in place when you update, it will not be overwritten. If you want to be 100% sure create another backup before you do 1.

There's actually a change in the update speed with the newer versions of the core, and some
fixes in the security against heartbleed and stuff like that. I'm not really sure, but it's much better to be updated
