Why didn't Obama negotiate for the release of the journalists when he released FIVE terrorists in exchange for ONE deserter?  Five for five would have been a better deal.
I think Obama is sympathetic towards the terrorists. He shares their religion and has seriously stepped back on the war on terror. He has also really not actively engaged the US military with any enemy since he has taken office.

For Obama to share a religion wouldn't that mean that he has to look up to somebody/something?  I'm pretty sure the narcissist-in-chief thinks he is the highest power onthe face of the Earth. He's not called the messiah for no reason  Grin

The admin really dropped the bomb on this one... it will be interesting to see how Hillary spins this to her favor.
No he doens't have to look up to anyone but he does seem to want to promote their religion throughout the world as evidenced by the fact that he refused to attack terrorists that share that religion.

I don't know if I would equate apathy with commiseration.  Another war would simply interrupt his gold schedule, his Beyonce concerts and might even interrupt his viewing of next years NCAA Spring Madness - we can't have that happen.

Except, of course there will be A NEED FOR DECISIVE SWIFT EXECUTIVE ACTION in the leadup to the November elections here.  This photo op will have to be staged so that there is no possibility of American lives being lost and so the on screen coverage looks like HE HAS A GRIP on something.

That means a boots on the ground action somewhere.  Maybe we can do Bin Laden again?

War is, and always has been, a competitive game.   Just as one never knows if you will win a poker game against intelligent opponents, you never know if you will succeed in any rescue mission, skirmish, battle or war.

The primary ability of warfare against our creation ISIS is drones.

All these drone capabilities will be duplicated. I see the day when our opponents drones will fly over the US and kill High Valued Target, perhaps one of the Puppets in Congress.

Or perhaps launch a nuclear device if losing the battle.

A bigger question is, should these military resources be used to rescue people who out themselves into harms way, and thus risk, those military resources being hurt or destroyed - or should we use our military resources to annihilate the enemy without having to worry about collateral damage.

And this piece is nothing but propaganda from the feckless administration. I know this how? Because the military spokes mouth had to insist the obama didn't hesitate. Which means he did.

So, let me get this straight. When special forces get Bin Ladin, Obama had zero to do with it, should get zero credit. When special forces fail to get Foley, special forces had zero to do with it, Obama should get all the blame. You guys are complete hypocrites.  I mean, come ON, you're as transparent as scotch tape.

I think it is likely a little of both. I think it is more so with not wanting his "busy" schedule interrupted when he is dealing with domestic things like the economy or implementing his health care law effectively.

This mission should have never been made public. Giving the enemy any information of successful or failed missions does nothing but make future missions more difficult. We have seriously incompetent Idiot-in-Chief in charge.

Then Obama goes off and plays golf less than an hour after making his "ISIL" speech. Disgusting.

It is made public, as a damage control strategy, it will be known sooner or later that such operation was made and the results were dramatic, so they have to be proactive about it, this is not the first time such operation were made and the result were presented in this way.

Sadly, James Foley, and his family are well aware of that failure.   And Obama was right back on the golf course today after speaking of Foley's beheading by muslim terrorists.  Pathetic!

Pentagon Says Hostage Rescue Mission in Syria Failed

The Pentagon attempted a rescue operation to free some U.S. hostages held in Syria by Islamist militants, but the mission failed because the hostages weren't where U.S. planners thought they were, U.S. officials said Wednesday.

A Pentagon spokesman gave few details but said the operation involved air and ground components and was focused on a "particular captor network" within the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, or ISIS. The news comes a day after ISIS released a gruesome video documenting the beheading of U.S. journalist James Foley.

Lisa Monaco, President Barack Obama's assistant for homeland security and counterterrorism, said in a statement that Obama authorized the mission because the U.S. "had what we believed was sufficient intelligence."

"It was the national security team's assessment that these hostages were in danger with each passing day in [ISIS] custody," she said. While the effort failed, Obama "could not be prouder of the U.S. forces who carried out this mission and the dedicated intelligence and diplomatic professionals who supported their efforts," Monaco said.

To be fair him being on the golf course is not really relevant to this discussion. I'm not pro-Obama but the fact that he's on a golf course the next day cannot be used as a reason to castigate his policies or decisions or you may as well blame unemployment etc.

When did this happen?

The US does not negotiate with terrorists last time I checked.

They did back in May and he was a deserter according to the Americans, they did it so they could claim they left no soldier behind in other words when its convenient for them.

Taliban-held U.S. soldier released in exchange for Afghan detainees

Taliban fighters released the sole remaining American military hostage Saturday morning to a team of U.S. troops in eastern Afghanistan, who quickly hustled him onto a helicopter. Once airborne, Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl scribbled the letters “SF?” on a paper plate, seeking confirmation that he was with Special Operations forces.

“Yes!” one of the troops hollered back above the din of the aircraft’s blades, according to a defense official who described Bergdahl’s first moments of freedom. “We’ve been looking for you for a long time.”

Bergdahl, 28, who had been held captive nearly five years, broke down in tears.

His release was secured after the Obama administration, working through Qatari government intermediaries, agreed to free five high-profile Afghan inmates held by the U.S. military in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The influential commanders, including the former head of the Taliban’s army, were loaded onto a U.S. military aircraft bound for Qatar after U.S. officials got confirmation that Bergdahl had been freed.

Bergdahl’s “safety and health were both in jeopardy,” and officials had to act quickly to obtain his release, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said Sunday, according to the Associated Press.

Our government is like any other- we don't like independent investigations and we never gave a fuck about journalists.

Of course we pay lip service to their efforts, stated altruism and lament their sacrifice- but in the end they don't matter.

They are just drones playing the information game, some for gain, some for glory.

War zone journalists are private citizens who enter into their profession understanding the risks.

So, no, I don't believe Obama will get any real flak for this.

What he will get is carte blanche when he wants to open a can of whup-ass.

The ISIS guys played right into his hand, in that he needs a bogeyman after he off'd uncle Osama.

Now he gets to fill the land of donkey rape with death lightning. Great.

Well those guys overlooked six aircraft carriers in '41, some 800000 soldiers '67, another 600000 in '68,  a revolution in '78, a few Russians around the Afghan  border in '79 and the collapse of the Sovietunion in '91.
Journalists are much smaller than those so I can understand their difficulties with finding them Smiley. But don't give up sometimes they can find even the non-existing WMDs. That's an improvement, isn't it?
The US knew about the Soviet union collapse earlier, the CIA had a lot of spies in the soviet union. But you are right ,a lot of decisions have been made on misinformation and lies.

I think he still has damage control over the last time he did that
Although if I recall correctly it was so they could leave no soldier behind but can't remember the exact details back then.
Pretty much no solider but reporters are fine lol.

While I'm really glad the US made an effort to rescue hostages held by ISIS, I find the timing of the release of this information very cynical.

The good news is that these operatives are going in a little over two years.  Hopefully not too many of them will carry over to the next administration.
