Yes, at the BFL prices, these are not worth them.  But is BFL shipping?  That is the question, my friend.

1.99 BTC ?!!!!!
This is not worth more than 0.15 btc

BitForce 5 GH/s SC  = $274
Block Erupter 300MH/ = $213

The good thing about this is it is ready to ship. but I don't know about how long we can use it before it becomes obsolete.

I'm curious as to why anyone would like to mine with a large set of these USB farmers when they could simply throw their money for the full blade version for much better performance. These little things are cute and all but as many said, they aren't worth their price to performance... other than for novelty purposes I suppose

I'm buying some for family scattered about the country. Seems like a nice gift that keeps giving. Pricey? yes, and worth every btc.

There are group buys pooling resources... and here's one

The price is not exactly favorable to the consumer to say the least.  Thinking about it, these guys pretty much have the field to themselves to charge whatever they want.  This pricing won't change until other ASIC manufacturers start putting product out in sufficient quantities to tamp down the rabid demand for them.

Thought someone might be interested in how the Emerald batch is fairing so far. 330MH/s is what Kano is running them at.
Code:
May 15 20:40:41 hmm HW: is a bot over 1% with the erupter now - I guess it needs to be cold (min has no heat sink)
May 15 20:41:05 A:14339  R:18  HW:158  U:4.6/m  WU:4.7/m
May 15 20:41:34 local temp is low 20'sC
May 15 20:41:42 (ambient)
May 15 20:42:27 Whats it hashing at
May 15 20:42:52 though it is funny, I have a USB cable running across a bunch of other I use for charging my and my kids phones ... and on the end ... this thing can hardly see it :)
May 15 20:43:13 330MH/s accepted shares
May 15 20:43:17 (over 2 days)
May 15 20:43:21 nice
May 15 20:43:28 10% more than advertised
May 15 20:43:40 yep - it's actually a little higher
May 15 20:43:47 but I'm just going on accepted shares
May 15 20:44:05 Icarus MH/s is an estimate coz how it works (how I wrote it :P)
May 15 20:44:16 correction - how I re-wrote it :)

No reason to buy this. It only costs $100 less than a 7950, does 300 less mh/s, and has little to no resale value.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Id be interested if the price came down, but like everyone else, you can purchase a 7950 for just a little more and mine twice as much.

To be honest... I'd like to get in on the group buys but I'm still stuck in the newbie level and can't post or contact those organizers. I built a GPU rig with 4 7970 but I would grab these USB sticks in a heart beat... then finally be able to remove the existing power-sucking-portable-heater-box out of my basement Smiley .... hopefully my jalapenos arrive sooner rather than later... and then I'll kick these USB sticks along to a friend.

haha I'm the same

BTW : what is the minimal configuration you need as a computer to run 1 or 10 of them ?

The payoff time is not exponential by adding more of them either, it will take around the same 160 days for one or for five (1500 mh/s if you're counting).

This part is a very valid point. Consider the increased earnings by having more though. After that (160d) you would be looking at, say $1,500 a month instead of $150 a month by having 10 instead of 1 (all using theoretical numbers). Of course, the investment is also larger, increasing the risk.

Agreed.  That's how I justified more than one mining rig to start.  I'd be interested in these things if some vendor was reselling them.
