adding p2pkh before private key
On the page in Electrum where you input your private key to be swept, you can click the box which says "Info" at the top right which explains what you have to input for the different address types:p2pkh for Legacy addresses beginning with a "1", as in the case of Opendime addresses
p2wpkh-p2sh for Nested SegWit addresses beginning with a "3"
p2wpkh for Native SegWit addresses beginning with "bc1"
Alternatively, you can try missing that out altogether and entering your private key on its own, as I suspect Electrum will default to Legacy addresses unless told otherwise. The worst that can happen is that it tells you there are no inputs to be spent and you can try again.
Thanks [ adding p2pkh before private key ] is specifically what i'm unsure about ; it isn't mentioned in open dime guide [ your link] or anywhere else to my knowledge but yes,i will try and be patient ,until i hopefully get a few more replies and therefor feel more confident in what i,m doing . I don't doubt the validity of your answer btw ,it's just that moving crypto funds is quite a learning curve and notorious for mistakes. Thanks for your patience and help ; i do appreciate it.

Smart move. No one is going to fault you for being too cautious, especially with a process you are unfamiliar with. Anyway, I did remember that op did ask how to link the wallet to electrum and TryNinja did answer what to do and also included on sweeping the funds from open dime to ledger nano s from the thread that the op created before. Since it's already answered then I'll just provide an image about the steps that o_e_l_e_o explained. So here it is, I hope that this image that I will share and provide will help you in sweeping your funds from your opendime account to your wallet. It shouldn't be a problem if you follow the steps on the previous post especially "DOUBLE CHECKING EVERYTHING".

Once you have pushed a pin through the Opendime, you will be able to access the private-key.txt file. Inside there will be the private key corresponding to the bitcoin on the Opendime. There are two ways to transfer this to Electrum - import or sweep. If, as you say, you have set up Electrum to work with your Ledger Nano S, and you want the coins to now be stored on a private key under the security of the Ledger Nano S, then the option you want is sweep.

Hi all . I have now linked my ledger nano s to my desktop electrum wallet . I want to send bitcoin from my open dime to my nano s ,via electrum . So what is the next steps? Do i click [ sweep key ] or [ receive ] on electrum wallet .? Thanks for any help .
