I recommended to othe a little bit back that VertCoin be merge mined with PrimeCoin now, as I see PrimeCoin, now with open source GPU mining, as being the main competitor.

I'm not sure what will happen with VertCoin in the long run, but the network hash rate has been falling and I suspect this is the reason.

No.

The network hashrate has has dropped because there was a surge in multipool profitability this past weekend. It's more profitable to mine multipool right now and buy coins with BTC than it is to mine VTC directly due to the high difficulty.

Talking about multipools, there is a thing that can affect VTC in a future - multipools may develop an extension to stratum which lets the server embed VTC scrypt-n into the work packets. Also the mining software will be released that can change mining algorithms via stratum commands. All of this will come to scrypt-n VTC sooner or later. Welcome to multipool mining future!

I just downloaded the latest setup/wallet for windows and virustotal gave like 17 positives?
WTF? Is the wallet a trojan or virus?  My other wallets get zero, one, or two positives at most
out of 50.

Are you using the windows or Mac version?
Windows version from official site.

If you downloaded the wallet from vertcoin.org or https://github.com/vertcoin/vertcoin/releases then they are false positives. If not you should download the wallet from the aforementioned urls. It's an ongoing struggle to keep the wallet out of the generic malware warnings.

Edit: just checked myself and the installer gets 19 flags, wallet gets 5. Sigh.

Primecoin is pretty damn cool, but I don't know about that.

Not looking too hot right now. I am not sure whether its good or bad the lack of buzz surrounding this right now.

i think this is goin to change very soon Smiley

Any particular reason for this? PM me if you don't want to post here.

Lightning ASIC will be shipping their 60 MH/s Scrypt ASICs at the end of next month. There's supposed to be another company (Innosilicon A2 Terminator) releasing 75 MH/s - 140 MH/s ASICs next month as well, though I haven't seen a real date yet.

EDIT: I don't think that people will be able to ROI their KnC machines once they do finally go out for delivery since there will be some pretty heavy hash out there already, along with declining profitability in scrypt.
