These articles drive me nuts - they are manifestly hit pieces. Yes, at $16B, Bitcoin total value pales against broad money of the globe. What these news articles lie about by omission is that the same CIA list they are using for the global broad money figures puts a $16B broad money value as slightly above half of all central-bank currencies in money supply - #95.5 out of 193 (or 194 including this Bitcoin interloper).

(BTW, it is currently $16,860M - or #93.5 in rank)

https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/rankorder/2215rank.html

When do they flip from worried enough to spout disinfo to outright panicked? When we hit #67 in rank? Larger than 2/3 of central bank currencies?

Do you really wonder why there is a lack of news coverage on a currency that could threaten governments from news outlets backed by governments? One day they will have no choice to report on it but for now, most people still don't know what bitcoin even is. Just give it time and in the mean time keep supporting it and spreading the word.

Have you tried switching channels?

Personally, I don't have a TV altogether, and you may want to throw away yours. Whenever I see a TV broadcast somewhere, I feel loathe by the amount of advertising being thrown on me as well as the way the information is being fed. It is intended to hit mainly on emotions, not caring much about factual content and its authenticity (as well as impartial coverage), and you can't efficiently and coherently process what is actually being told to you. I understand that otherwise it would be boring, and ordinary people would simply turn off their TVs, but if I want emotions, I'd rather watch a movie (with no ads either)

It's all channels. I hate tv too but the wife is addicted to syfy network and the news channels so it's on all the time in my house. I can't even get away from it in the kitchen because the crazy woman bought a refrigerator with a tv in the door and mounted one behind the mirror in the master bathroom. Most people soak in the tub to relax but she watches fucking tv. The cable installer started laughing when I told him I need a line run to the kitchen and bathroom.

What's the purpose of a wife which watches TV all the time?

She has her talents and makes great sammiches too.  Wink

Hey QuestionAuthority can I come over for a sandwich!? Shocked you forgot to timestamp that picture by the way. Or did I just miss it somehow?

Press coverage has really picked up at this point so we'll have a lot more newbies coming our way folks. On that note, how can I earn 1 bitcoin? Where do I buy bitcoins? Trololololol.

I am terrible at Fantasy Football!!!
It's better that media don't cover too much, and let the bitcoin run up quietly. Every time media joins in and hypes, it will become a real hype and price will go down. Media will probably realize something when bitcoin hits $10000 Cheesy
Most of the time the media gets late to the party when the price of stock rises a lot they make coverage of it some new investors push the price even higher but at some point it falls and they lose money, in fact every time I see the media getting involved with news of something having a high price I know that is the time to sell, just look at what happen with real state or gold just a few years ago.

This rally is not as surprising for the mainstream media as it was back in 2013. I read some little articles and one-liners in many news sites and blogs. It is not that hyped as in the past. I see this as a good sign. However I am convinced this will change when Bitcoin surpasses its all-time-high at $1179. Still 150 points to go.

The BBC are now covering it:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-38495804

Though they made sure to point out the way it collapsed after 2013 and mentioned that analysts questioned whether bitcoin would last!

They always make the same thing... they are always very skeptical, even if they keep getting proved wrong. Bitcoin has died now more than 100 times according to bitcoinobituaries.com, but we will always have people screaming doom about it. If only they knew that the best has yet to come... but the fact that mainstream media is not being as vocal this time as they did in 2013 is actually good. Mainstream media always overhypes things and brings massive rallys. It's better that we keep growing in a lateral figure than a sudden single candle that resembles the world trade center.

Actually covering issue or news is another part but I personally think that media is being used to make promotion of bitcoin. And in matter of bitcoin media is doing his job perfectly.

Awareness of crypto currency and bitcoin along with blockchain technology is also important in coming years.

Bitcoin went into news, and were on tv, that happened when it reached the 1000 dollars and break it, then it turned into a nightmare, but its really wizzard there isnt any report, any new talking about the bitcoin value at the moment, looks like no one wanna to advertise bitcoin for free without see and be able to see if it will hold above the 1000 dollars.

That seems to be a valid reason

If they started heavily commenting on Bitcoin in the news, its price would surge even higher. Really, why would they want that if they don't have a stake in Bitcoin? On the other hand, if the news network owners and media magnates invested in Bitcoin themselves, we might expect more interest toward Bitcoin from them since they would be personally interested in its success. And then Bitcoin might be able to finally make it into the prime time and appear on the first pages of newspapers

The press folk that have been covering this say for 2 to 3 years imho are likely
unconsciously pissed off they did not buy in at low prices with their attention. That
Adds more to their angst then just being wrong on a story. Adds to the FUD.

Leave no FUD unchallenged
Think it's the domino effect.  Once one mainstream outlet reports it, the rest follow suit.  Seems to be a fair few covering it now.  The Guardian, CNBC, Reuters, CBC, CNN, CBS, etc.  All from today.

Some of the British papers, including the Telegraph and Financial Times had their articles up several days ago.  There was also an earlier Guardian one back on Dec 22nd.

The Press thinks Bitcoin isn't something that is actually good for us. They think about the "terrorists" using it as a way to hide their identity. This makes no sense at all because terrorists would have had another way to hide themselves if Bitcoin wasn't here. Everything you read on the MSM is anti-Bitcoin, you always see the word "dark-web" on these articles which are bringing down its popularity.

There is no press coverage, because the volatility is currently over the top...
People also can't explain the sudden price change.
Media only cares about covering things that people actually are interested about, people are not interested to know about bitcoin, at least the majority of it,  and media will rather covering some stupid things that will get them more views rather than covering something that only 1% of the people will watch.

I too agree compared to 2013 rally, now medias are less covering bitcoin's current rally. Google news search also indicates this.

You lead and I'll watch you walk away.
I think the present political climate in America is another thing to consider, and this is taking shine of other news.

I think you're right about that. All I see lately is Donald Trump, dead celebrities, the weather, Donald Trump, dead celebrities, the weather, Donald Trump, dead celebrities, the weather.
