In case you didn't know, Mexico is actually called United Mexican States of America officially, we just shortened it to Mexico for ease of use.
We Americans aren't that conceited yet to think we are the only nation in the world made up of states, we do share that.

The Americans are located far away from their rivals (Iran, DPRK, China, Russia.etc). So even if they attack their rivals, they are unlikely to face the consequences. For example, if they attack the DPRK, then the latter is likely to target Japan and South Korea, rather than nuking the mainland United States. Similarly, Iran is likely to nuke/bomb Saudi Arabia and the European Union, as they don't have weapons which are capable of reaching the mainland US.
