Forgive me, but I thought Mac is virus-free?

Mac is most certainly not virus free, but less frequently targeted than Windows so the likelihood of being hit by one is less. The following link is a guide with more info on Mac Malware/viruses: http://www.reedcorner.net/mmg-threats/

No it's not, main reason is Flash and java 0day exploits and malware authors are really advance now, they are making cross platform viruses.

Why would I want to scan my MAC?  It's just a sequence of hexadecimal identifying my ethernet card.

Ive always used virus barrier X6 and have been happy with it. It has a cool interface, as well as some options if you are running windows on the machine as well

I use virus barrier X6...or internet barrier X6...I can't remember which one now...but it is one of those two.   It works well, and the interface is really easy...

Thanks for the responses. Good to know that others see antivirus on mac as valuable. And yes, that we must run linux too - I just keep nix on separate box and in VMs.

If anyone has any objective comparisons of antivirus apps on mac, I'd love to hear those too.

Just wonder what the community's latest thoughts on this are? Protecting from malware is absolutely relevant to bitcoin people. I'm always paranoid about a keylogger or something. Do we need a scanner on our macs?
You need Linux on your macs.

Hello.
I have used Sophos Antivirus Home edition (it is free of use). You can check the reviews http://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools/sophos-antivirus-for-mac-home-edition/reviews.aspx

Just like this person said. There is a antivirus mac app. Go to the app store, and you`ll see it.

http://www.intego.com/  Intego VirusBarrier for Mac.  When I bought my very first Intel macbook the only thing in the Apple store was the norton software but it didn't yet have a universal binary.  McAfee had a mac antivirus software but they only sold it in packages of three.

I looked around and found a really good 3rd-party review for Intego.  I've used them on my Macs for years.

Yes I heard. But since we're in the Bitcoin forum and there are so many threats to our precious coins I thought asking wouldn't hurt.

It can't hurt:

Oh, you mean my Mac!  Those don't get viruses, silly.  Didn't you hear?
