They have a lot of tanks for sure. But I have heard that they are facing a shortage of tank crew. What you'll do with those machines if no one knows how to use them?  Grin

Igor Girkin has urged people with knowledge of tanks and helicopters to come forward and join the Donetsk People's Army.

I did not understand the Russian but there are sure a lot of tanks Smiley
The Russians must have a lot of weapons to handle the Ukraine
Tanks are outmoded now but still very powerful

I'm sure they have loads of weapons, Russia is much much larger than the Ukraine after all.
If you are curious you could see a military parade video  Smiley

June 25, 2014 Jun. 25th, 2014 at 1:32 PM Posted Today, 13:30:42
Shooting continued near Sloviansk overnight, including - artillery. Enemy forces continued to focus on the bridgehead s.Krivaya Luke, where from the entire population is expelled. In the area Kramatorsk and Konstantinovka division militia attacked by armored units of the punitive battalions that made a forward movein the October and Ulyanovka areas, also repelling  intelligence group's attempt to penetrate directly into Konstantinovka. The enemy suffered losses in wounded. At dawn, the combined impact of artillery, mortars and AGS was made against the strong point of the enemy on the road Slavyansk Kramators'k, which noted the concentration of infantry and light armored vehicles. Enemy, located in a crowded formation in a small area, was inflicted significant casualties, visually observed 2 fires. At 11 o'clock the fire mortars and small arms attacked enemy positions at a roadblock Fodder. For its part, Ukrainians responded with howitzers fire and mortars from Karachun and other positions. Currently skirmishes continue almost everywhere. Practically non-flying weather, after a night of rain the ground is wet, the movement of wheeled equipment is limited to paved roads. The helicopter shot down by our fighters yesterday, besides 9 Ukrainian military units might have contained a group of foreign military advisers, commanders or PMCs. Information not verified, for accuracy of it I can not vouch.

They called this cannibalizing. If you have 100 broken tanks and if you have good mechanics you can cannibalize those parts from other broken tanks to create at least 20 - 30 working tanks. The military base near my home usually do this because of low budget.

In that case, the Ukrainian army will soon find the rebels armed with some 50 more tanks, in addition to the 6 or 7 they had already captured. Remember that the Ukrainians have only around 100 MBTs in the Eastern Front.  Grin

No. I'm about new units called "assembled repair parts". That can be a new tank, they need only add some old part from damaged tank. For example a light bulb.

I am not sure how many of them are in working condition, but at least 20% of them must be usable (after the repairs).

That is enough for shipping of repair parts. If tank is not in working conditions, it can be repaired. So called "assembled repair parts", You need only replace the antenna from that tank to assembled repair parts unit.

This is for Niothor. He was asking for proof, for a few days now.

Pro-Russian troops boarding an MBT near the town of Yanakiyevo, Donetsk oblast. You can see clearly that the men are wearing the uniform of the Donetsk People's Army:

Clearly a T-72 tank.

Clearly based on what?

A t72 has it's IR on the right side of the canon the t64 on the left.
Also the ammunition box on that side make me thing it's a t64b  model or an improved version like the mb2 or br like the one below

^^^ My source was Lifenews. They had posted that a tank battle is ongoing in Krasnyi Liman with 70 tanks on the Ukrainian side, and 15 on the rebel side. Al Jazeera confirmed that tanks were involved, but didn't gave a number. (Only the Russian media have reporters in Donbass, but according to you they are full of lies).

You said confirmed:
OK. Confirmed. Some 15 rebel tanks took part in the battle outside Krasnyi Liman yesterday. Biggest battle staged by the Donetsk People's Army so far. Some 4,000 rebel fighters and 30,000 Ukrainian soldiers took part. Heavy fighting also taking place in the nearby areas of Yampol and Seversk.

where are the reports about the tanks and the 34 000 fighters?
Link to at list two sources , I'm not waiting for a 6 block confirmation but at least two claiming what you've said.

Thanks, learn something new each day Smiley The tank is quite an old model.

Interesting how there are different stories with this exact same picture of tanks.

Quote
Russian tanks are on the move even as Ukraine’s president on Friday announced a week-long unilateral ceasefire in fighting with pro-Russian militants.

Quote
Pro-Russian troops prepare to travel in a tank on a road near the town of Yanakiyevo, Donetsk region, eastern Ukraine,

The T-64 was conceived in Kharkiv, Ukraine. In other words, it are Ukrainian tanks. One of the factories is the Malyshev Factory.

You show as  proof of 15 rebel tanks in a fight involving 4000 rebels and 30000 ukraine soldiers a picture of two tanks down a road?

And that makes your claim confirmed.

Also , you got this picture after you said  the fight was confirmed , you didn't see it before.

No, it's some variant of T-64 tank. T-72 has somewhat different chassis and bigger/wider wheels:

Now that looks very legit, aren't T-72 cold war era type Russian tanks? If so it would explain why the Russians were able to get their hands on them, I would definitely think it possible to take tanks from that place and re-activate them with some skilled engineers, just a matter of knowing how to fabricate the bits and put it all together safely.

Old tank model indeed, designed around 1967–1973. But it may well have been upgraded. It was a Soviet tank and in use in many countries. Map here https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/ee/T-72_users.PNG
