I wonder how many people from here have paid 10-50 BTC for an ounce or more. A fair few. I would melt it down in a rage.

I bought 2 silver coins for 60 BTC (which cost $120). Fortunately, they also have bitcoin attached to them, so I'm quite happy with them.

Is gold even a good investment right now? I must admit it'd be pretty cool to have a 1KG gold or silver bar in a glass cabinet in your home.
1 kg is disappointingly small (edit: unfortunately I don't know this from experience) due to the high density of gold. When do we reach parity with a standard 400 oz (12.4 kg) bar?

I will buy an ounce of gold when it's 0.1 BTC and even that's a bit steep as far as I'm concerned. I may wait for 0.05 or so. Metals in general hold precisely zero interest for me but I'd like to have a lump to throw at people for fun.

The Anti Semite can do what makes it happy. I do wish it would stop ejaculating its opinions in our little faces.

Yep, as a novelty item a 1Kg bar is awesome. But 1KG of gold is a bit expensive to me just as a decorative item. On the other hand 1KG silver bar is only a bit more than 1/4 BTC.

If you can buy tungsten directly instead of being passed off as gold it is a lot cheaper.

gold price can be heavily manipulated.
1.)central banks are holding 10 times world's yearly production. They can release reserves when gold is expensive and refill when its cheap. they can manipulate price through futures markets as well.
2.)miners can increase/ decrease production accordingly as well
3.)total amount of gold produced (and relatively quickly available for sale) is still rising, and only very little is lost or used for industry

buy the silver bar to write the trezor seed word, its perfect setup
 Cool

I don't expect the price to recover so quickly, but those are the breaks.

Not when the financial news section about bitcoin currently reads:

This grotesque bubble is blowing apart right now

Please go in your silver hole and stay there.

It's funny that some time ago I was thinking about buying PM's... but after all the reminders r0ach was constantly doing here it made me seriously think and research about it and then I realised it was a really bad idea. The transaction costs are astronomical, the liquidity almost non existent if you want something close to spot price, the storage and mobility is cumbersome....

I did buy more BTC instead. Thanks r0ach! Smiley

P.S.: Anyway I still think I will buy one 1KG silver bar before end of year just as a decorative thing or for paperweight usage. I will put it right in front of my zimbawean dollars.

You're never too old to think young.
Well good morning Bitcoinland.

I see yesterday's gains are holding and we're creeping even further upward... currently $2360USD (Bitcoinaverage).

It seems the death of Bitcoin was in Mark Twain's words, "greatly exaggerated".

I've noticed your "Good morning Bitcoinland" is getting later and later these days.  Make sure 'n get that beauty sleep.  What good will all your riches be if you're not healthy enough  to enjoy it?  Shocked

Thanks for your concern but don't worry. I still get my 6-8 hours of sleep every night.

My biological clock was set back in the 1970s when I played music 6 nights a week. Last call was at 1:00AM in Ontario back then and by the time we finished drinking up the beers we were bought during our last set and then packing up our gear, it was 2:00AM before we got out of the bar. By the time we had a few more beers and something to smoke and eat, it was 4:00-5:00AM. That's why I generally wake up at the crack of noon.

Bitcoin FTW!
I personally don't like the sudden and extreme rebounds and drops we've been having, but I guess it's better than the slow death after the 2013 peak. Activation period for BIP91 begins in 7 hours, we shall see if it goes through then or not.

Stamp going bonkers, is this just manipulation or are there real whispers of bypassing the fork in the wind?

looks good to me for bypassing fork (assuming I have my many flavors of protocol correct)

Sorry for my ignorance, I'm not sure what you're reading there. What is it that indicates that we're bybassing now that wasn't there yesterday?
