anyone actually going to buy into this ETF if it passes?
I'll probably use it for a 'more secure' trading vehicle

lol, people are still posting comments about it today: https://www.sec.gov/comments/sr-batsbzx-2016-30/batsbzx201630.shtml

Going on what they've had to endure from the little shits who live in crypto land with this, I assume future shitcoin ETF applications, and rest assured there'll be loads of them added to their ICO announcements that never actually happen, will be told to fuck off and not come back.

Self-Custody is a right. Say no to"Non-custodial"
Being the government and it being a Friday, I would expect the announcement to be before 4PM EST.

Look at you.  Conspiratorial.

Not a conspiracy. I just work for the government and know that usually on a Friday people take off early.

Woops...

I had to edit my previous post because I meant to refer to your comment about the DDOS attack, but instead I clicked on the wrong post...

This point about the government saying something before 4pm, makes sense... but the DDOS attack seems a lot less likely to occur (even though it could happen, to me it seems a bit of a stretch of a speculation)

Who wants to bet that the sec.gov website gets DDoS attacked today?

If their website gets the same treatment as their Q&A email the number of genuine people trying to simultaneously access it will impact it more than a DDoS.

Impatient for answers about its decision regarding a proposed bitcoin exchange-traded fund, market watchers appear to be swamping a Q&A email line during a US Securities and Exchange Commission event

*snip*

While it’s not immediately clear how many requests the SEC has received, an agency staffer commented on the queries while highlighting the Q&A line, telling the audience:

"I will say that, for people that are emailing in, we have nothing to say about bitcoin, so please stop asking. I don't know what that means, but that's what I've been told to say."

What are the odds of such a thing?  probably quite low, but you want to bet anyhow?

Seems to me like both people who were short and people who were long were burned on Bitfinex. Feels a little bit too kind of "insiderish" for my taste.

Anyway, I cant wait for next week. Price development will be without doubt exciting.

The thing is if it gets approved, none of us are selling. if it gets rejected are you selling?

market will temporarily drop but then proceed with going up. Japan will have an ETF i assume soon as they aceept it as a form of payment now.

I think it's more the fact that if it is approved, more people will be buying.

The reality is that many of those people that actually have bitcoins will sell if the price jumps up a lot. Someone has to supply bitcoins to the Wall Street folks.

I know nothing about the workings of the SEC - but is it normal practice to leave a decision so late after 3 years to mull it over ?

Is it possible that the ETF gets the go ahead by default ie. no formal decision given ? That way the SEC doesn't exactly give the ETF (or btc) a ringing endorsement, but let it through nonetheless. Kind of a win win situation for the SEC, if you see what I mean.

Could the final decision be that there is no decision ?

The SEC has run out of delays. If not denied by Monday 13 the BATS rule change that will allow COIN will be approved by default. Just monitor https://www.sec.gov/rules/sro/batsbzx.htm

When you think the price tonight will be either 850 or 1700 USD... it's kind of wild.

Coindesk twitter says SEC confirmed with them that decision will be announced today fwiw

Can you provide a link for this?

https://twitter.com/coindesk/status/840251696198627329

No matter what we cannot give this 100% credibility; however, the question becomes how much credibility does this deserve?

Better than 50/50?   30%, 80%  or some other fair assessment of Coindesk?

Based on what little I know about Coindesk, at this point, I would give it around a 63.481023337%  give or take 1.5%... Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Bear with me
By the way, I'm still undecided on what the news will be. Just my observation.
